This was a fun video to make. I just wanted to clarify one thing before I get blasted for it. When we were talking about clearance delivery, we were talking about VFR traffic only. Some class D airports share their ground frequency as clearance delivery for IFR traffic, and we're well aware of that. =)

Hi, when I was preparing for radio communication certificate during my PPL training, I started with a few apps myself. But what really helped me, was talking with a real person for training. You can do that over the internet ... thats almost perfect. Those apps might be a good start to practice your lingo, but talking to a real person, who might say things maybe a little different, who might ask even something out of the ordinary, thats when you get the better training. I had the great chance to train with a former ATC senior. With his vast experience he got pretty creative. I think, I coudn't have wished for a better prep.
I'll agree with you on that one. The app really helps you known what to say, and how things should work. In the real world things can be different, or the controller would rather you say it in a different way.
I enjoy reviewing Your videos and wish we had this kind of information when i was learning to fly. I was Blessed to have wonderful Civilian and Military CFIs. The two hardest things for me to learn were landings and communications! I’m getting a little hard of hearing and the ATC folks are understanding, courteous, and wonderful to work with!! I love all the advances in Technology in Flying, in Medicine, and all facets of our Lives! Thank You for All the information You Provide with Your Videos! I do not get to fly as much as I would like and your videos help refresh my skills and remind me how Blessed I am to learn to Fly!!
Glad they're helping. THings have really changed over the years and I don't see that stopping any time soon. Competition was starting to drive down some of the costs, but we'll have to see what the next few years bring.
I just started flying (2.5 Hrs). My instructor has been doing all the radio so far. Radio communication is veery intimidating for me, especially because English is not my first language. Before watching this video, I was crossing my fingers to find an app or other source to help me practice. I guess I was lucky to ran into your video. Thank you for your video, and the great advices.
We tried to show a brief overview of how to use it. Hopefully you can figure it out. It's a good little app to help you with the basics. Then it's to the plane for the real thing!
Excellent video. Def jealous of the shirt. Let’s meet up at the cafe and chat about flights together. And yes please bring Pitman. Would be good to have him go with us.
Thats a tall order! Understanding airspace is a hard one, and even as a pilot I still check the airspace regulations when I go out and fly. I want to make a video on it, but I would need to do it in a fun way to make it valuable and I haven't figured out how to do that yet. It's on my list of videos to make though.
Thank you for your videos! Next week I'm going to Florida from Russia to start my education as a private pilot. I want to pass the written test without GS (i learn theory at home and have stable 70%+ result in tests). But I can't understand the principle separation of airspace to Classes. I mean I understand that there is A, B,C, D, E, G classes, but may be there is some "rule of thumb" to separate them?
There are some great drawings out there to help you understand them. type in airspace rules in google and checkout images. There's lots there and some great diagrams to help understand them better. What you really need to know is visibility and cloud clearance requirements for each one. and G is a pain because it depends on altitude.
awesome video, i love it, i just downloaded the app. im hard to understand so the app has problems understanding me which im afraid that the ATC will have a hard time with me. im try to learn as much as i can with your videos, so keep them coming :)
@@flywiththeguys yes you did, didnt think you would see this, thanks for helping, i hope commenting the same thing didnt upset you. i try to respect pilot as much as i can!
Request would be better IMO. I usually say "requesting taxi." Granted today I didn't say that at all. I gave who I was talking to, who I was, where I was, told them my departure direction, and with what information. Thats it, no request for taxi. In reality, they know you want to taxi so technically it can go unsaid. Unless thats all your asking for. Like Taxi to runup area for testing, or taxi to self serve fuel. Granted that last one would be reposition... you get the idea.
See, I knew that, but when I was writing this I was thinking about beginners again, and VFR traffic. Typically Class D airports share clearance delivery on the ground frequency for IFR departures.
I bought the PlaneEnglish thing and I tryed to download it on my I phone and it required IOS 12.01 and my software is 10.3.3 is there any way I could do it on PC or something like that? Because I'm mad I spent 20 bucks on something I wont be able to use.
I think it's a phone only app. Sorry to hear it's not working. They have good customers service so I would contact them with that information and they should be able to help you out.
@@flywiththeguys Oh just to say I already talked to them, I accidentally bought the comms training manual so I didn't get a refund but its alright. It's my bad.
We can help pilots out with their radio comms, too, in a practical setting with a flight simulator. Our controllers are real people which allows for very interactive situations and end-to-end flights. We hope you check us out, Carl!
I believe you can increase the apps speech speed in the settings, but I know what you mean. I was the only person in the airspace a few months back and they still talked so fast that even I had to as for them to "say again, speak slower" I think he did it on purpose, we were all laughing on frequency afterwards.
Yeah so, you TOTALLY made that clear in the last video. IDK what he/she talking about (probably one of those idiots your hear in the air, correcting you).
Pilot: ““Archer 915GU at GA Parking ready to taxi with Whiskey” ATC: “Archer 5GU.....save your Whiskey for AFTER the flight......8 hours between bottle and throttle” 😂😂
The advice on slowing the speed of speech cuts both ways. I've heard countless recordings of controllers talking too fast and then having to repeat it all again, only slower. I think they are more often guilty of this than pilots. But then again, we can't change them; we can change us.

Some class D airports have clearance, but it is usually the same controller as ground.

Thanks for the video. Shame the app doesn’t speak like real atc....ie so fast it is unintelligible. Why so fast even when the channel isn’t busy?
