Roasted chestnuts are a tradition here in Italy, every town does a chestnut festival in october. My granny tought me to eat them raw, too, while in the wood, but they are a little sour and dry out the mouth.
Mike, I think that an "info" video for the UK viewers of both TA outdoors and TA fishing regarding the carrying of knives should be considered. A young lad over in Holyhead was challenged by messrs plod, and had his bait knife in his pocket. Got a flea in his ear but that was all. As we all know the carrying of knives in the UK is a minefield.... I'm 53 now, and used to wear my sheath knife on my belt to school!! How times have changed!! Also gas cannisters are frowned upon with youngsters. Just a thought. Cheers, regards to the Totally Awesome team.
I know what you mean. The difficulty with this is that laws and rules over time. Then when people watch the video I make about U.K. knife law, it could change and then be updated and my video would be invalid. I could always place a link in the video description of some videos of U.K. knife carry laws. If you’ve got a bait knife and you are fishing, I would argue that you have reasonable cause. But, it sounds like the young chap was out and about or walking between fishing spots, in which case it becomes a grey area. The whole thing is quite a grey area to be honest! But I’ll look into it and see if I can do anything to get info out there. Thanks for the comment. Mike
Great video, been following you for years, knew the bushcraft tips but..... For someone who works in I.T. for a living, you've schooled me and given some epic advice, advice I've just shared with the missus as she is quite scared of walking alone at night. Thank you so much Mike and keep up the good work. Bristol based so hoping to bump into you and your dad when out on travels / fishing some time!
Looks like I need to start paying close attention to the fungus growing on my trees😁 let me know about that skillbuilder program. Thank you for taking the time and making an effort to produce these videos
Your vids are great taught a lot but not everyone has the luxury of a private forest I've been doing this for 30 years since I left the army and in general its not excepted in the UK but I've learned a few tips along the way but the laws will never change thanks budove your vids
another thing with ur phone is to change ur voicemail to say that ur in an emergency, (where you r going, if ur with ur broken down car, if ur hurt, etc) they don't need u to have battery on ur phone after u have changed it, so it's very usefull
The birch fungus uses, alone, merit watching and learning! Then we get to the uses of the smartphones most of us probably have had for a few years! SO I RUSHED OVER TO BUY A SET OF YOUR BACKPACK AND PACKING MODULES. Alas, the pack is sold out. My whole motivation is to get a complete system. Is there a WAIT LIST I can get on?
Hi James, yes sadly the packs sold out in a few days. If you sign up to the newsletter on my website then this is the first place I notify people of when they go back in stock. It will be a few months though as they take a while to make. Thanks for the comment.
In Spain we eat a lot of sweet chestnut and probably many other European countries eat them too. In a survival situation you can also eat acorns from oak, Holm oak and corn oak (all those trees are from the same family, quercus) but it's recommend to boil them since it's not always safe to eat them raw (it contains tannins). If you roast then after boiling tastes even better
Great tips also an Android specific tip is to turn ultra power saving mode in Android it limits the phone in terms of responsive and amount of apps you can have installed but can give you nearly a hundred hours of battery vs several hours.
Helpful tips, especially the iPhone tips, I been over several years. This was the first time to see them. Keep the videos coming very enjoyable good luck with your channel
You know, 1/2 of the things you're talking about we have no idea what you mean... oh wait. I'm on the wrong side of the pond! LoL... seriously, I love the quick, info loaded video! Cheers!
That was a new one for me too. Using the fungus for honing a blade was one I've enjoyed doing, but good to know I can also use the same fungus for a "Band-Aid" after testing how sharp my blade is now....lol
I dropped ten likes in 10ms and then spent a pleasant ten minutes learning stuff with Mike. Time well spent for sure. Thanks for all the great work, TA dude.
Fantastic video, I've been watching a lot of your videos and they're really good. I'm also a subscriber to your dad's channel and only realised it was you when you mentioned him in a video. New Sub'd
I don’t know if this has already been said, but something else you could do with your phone is change your voicemail to where you are and any other information. Even if your phone is off it will give this information. Haven’t tested if it still works if someone calls you and you don’t have service. So untested… just something I heard.
"A Spot of Bother in the Woods" sounds like a delightful title for a mystery novel.
Sounds like a Winnie the Pooh adventure.
@@mortalkoil1971 You should read "Magical Adventures Winnie the Pooh" created by Polish students in early 2000.
Nick, I don't know you but I like the way you think. Have a wonderful New Year, bud! Great comment 😊
