I like a chunky boot myself, but even with barefoot boots the answer to "having unsupported ankles" is getting stronger ankles. Just get stronger, or better at something. Is the answer to most things. Do it/use them and your wonderfully advanced human body will adapt.

    • @user-yv8kd2jo2x
      @user-yv8kd2jo2x 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

@liquidusblue it doesn't matter how strong your ankles are. With chunky boots because of the step you will roll your ankles . That doesn't happen with bare foot boots.

You are not wrong there at all Bjorn. A couple of years back I used toe separating barefoot shoes and my feet spread, the skin toughened and it was OK for me. Pack carrying I still prefer a stout ankle boot for load carrying.
Sadly 8 years back I had (read not suffered) a stroke! Bed ridden for months, couldn't walk properly for a couple of years. I am now on the mend despite my challenges. So once again I will be hiking distance and enjoying nights under the stars.
I take on small challenges every day to move in that direction.
First fix the mind so you have no more problems _ people face problems. Instead have challenges and rise to them. Work on those challenges with your body and before long, you have risen to them all!
Waste not one iota of thought on any negative connotation. It takes practice but the rewards are endless!

I could not agree more! I bought some cheap barefoot shoes from Amazon 2 years ago and I’ll never go back. I was born with bad feet (totally flat foot) and I had corrective surgery on my right foot. I’ve spent BIG money on shoes, insoles etc, and here all I needed was to go barefoot. I can walk 8 hours on a tiled floor, then work my second job on a steel deck, and my feet are just fine. Again this is in the cheap stuff.

Disagree. I wear barefoot shoes, or barefeet on any and all terrain. As a result, my balance is great. I need to feel the ground/rocks, boulders, even and uneven. Steep or flat. I wear barefoot shoes around 6 years I think and here are my observations:
My back doesnt hurt anymore, and if does, it gets ok very quickly. And I used to have chronic pain. There were more things I did to get rid of that, but this is big contribution.
I am more consious about my every step and avoiding to put to much weight on my heel. And that is what I think does the trick. When you walk complete barefoot, that is what you do, because you know it hurts when you put pressure to the heel.
Also, I have more confidence to walk distances. I dont have any blisters from them.
I wouldn't recomend wearing barefoot shoes for some sports and heavy duty jobs where you need protection.
Also, non-barefoot shoes can give you more safety and support, and that can save you a lot of energy while on long and hard tracks, so keep that in mind.
When I had my first pair - the brand was Wildlings, I completely fall in love with them. From than, I only had one period of non-barefoot shoes and it was really bad. I was happy when I finaly outwear them and threw them away. My second shoes were Xero sandals, and those were great, I gave them literal hell, from spring to autumn and they lasted three years. I also had Xero tracking shoes and they didn't last a year and also gave me blisters. Now I have two Czech brands - Realfoot with super wide space for fingers and Saltic - they seems great for heavy duty (originaly climbers shoes).
So yeas go barefoot, but watch what it does for you. My mother in law whent barefoot at her 50ties and hew arch went flat and it was really painfull.

I've never tried the barefoot boots before but like the concept. Back in the 70's when I did the AT for the first time I wore knee high lace up moccasins that had a fairly thick but very pliable gum rubber sole and they worked out GREAT even though I went through 2 pairs, almost 3 . Later when I worked with the Forest Service I wore them for many more years when doing day patrols on the AT and in the Lincoln Woods Wilderness Area in NH , USA. My daily foot ware is moccasins still , just low ones and I live way up in the mountains on > 20 acres and do all my homestead chores and roam all over my wood lot wearing them , best thing ever !
I did have to switch to a much heavier boot in the 80's - early 2000's when I ended up staying out on the trail for 2 to 3 weeks at a time and had to carry a much bigger pack , more supply's , along with a radio, major first aid/ trauma kit and a minimal climbing gear set up for the frequent rescues I ran into. One particular back country area I patrolled was also a popular climbing and swimming areas with big waterfalls that people were constantly getting hurt at. Two or three emergency responses a day sometimes wasn't uncommon and in many cases they were miles apart.
I know you'll choke , but the best I could do while on duty and during my long distance patrols was 63 lbs for a pack weight, for 3 week stints , add another 7-8 lbs . When hiking for fun though a 3-4 day pack is well less than 20 lbs even carrying "luxury items" like a tent and Therma- rest. Otherwise a hammock and rain fly has been and still is my go to for the AT and back country trips sense the 60's . Had to give it all up after a serious fall in 2006 that put me out of commission permanently , at least for hiking with a pack .

Now my feet hurt and the pain will slowly come back if i wear my regular boots. My toes are bunched up and my arches start to ache. Put my Barefoot back on and all that pain goes away. I need to find more of a boot style in the barefoot now as the pair i have is more like a modern-day moccasin 😅. But even with a heavy pack i would rather wear them than my other boots. That's funny I googled them yesterday after seeing them on you. My neighbor is from Hong Kong saw me walking outside barefoot a few times this summer and they were always in a panic saying oh no oh no quickly go get some shoes on your feet your feet it would tell them mankind walked for a million years on bare feet they couldn't understand it.

I noticed the shoes. Was wondering about them.
That’s the exact opposite of what a physical therapist told me. She said if you can bend the soles, they won’t support your back at all. 🤷‍♀️

I’ve worn leather top Vans skater shoes for many rucks and backpacking trips. The silence that can be achieved while hunting- you can feel twigs and rocks that might make noise. And the traction is amazing, even on wet rocks. Cold weather really puts a damper on thin soles shoes, but I just found that they make an insulated version- they are on the way.

I have been wearing barefoot shoes for years now. I live rural & mountainous. I feel soooo much better in them. My knees & ankles are much happier because the foot bones & muscles are able to do their job as the subtle base for postural alignment & contact with the earth.
If I find myself occasionally in a city, on concrete, I will wear a thicker & padded sole, but still with flexibility. Concrete is unnaturally even & hard. I also wear thicker soles in the desert around cholla & other big spiky cacti.

I wear the same vivo boots almost every day and it's the best pair of boots I've ever owned! I'm so happy with them that I've already bought another pair, despite not needing it yet lol. By the looks of it I probably won't need the new pair for a while...

I noticed your cool boots in your previous video.... and was so happy to see you do one about them here!! I have very high arches, and lots of hairline fractures in my feet from carrying too much weight years ago as a caterer. But, when I was living in South Korea, I had an amazing craftsman make me some custom arch supports inside barefoot shoes. OMG!! Huge difference!!! I was walking 6-10 miles every day with zero pain or fatigue!!! ❤

One other thing is the physical sensation. Normal shoes are like a sensory deprivation tank for your feet. With barefoot shoes you can feel the ground. That's a whole world of complex touch signals being sent to your brain constantly as you move, which I believe is a healthy stimulation. The downside is standing on sharp things can bloody hurt, but actually I kind of enjoy that too. It makes walking more of an adventure. 😀

Spot On! The benefit to your health, physically and mentally, from walking barefoot or wearing barefoot shoes are enormous. Which seems very logic to me, our feet are our bases and grounding. It keeps you connected with Mother Earth as with the elements we have to deal with in daily life. The information that comes through your feet is essential to be totally aware in the moment.
The shoe industry knows this as well. And look what ‘sick shoes’ they brought to the market and to the people.

Well, there are toed socks (like gloves for your feet) to circumvent this problem. Only downside with toed socks is, your feet won't feel comfortable in regular shoes with them on.

There are also anatomical socks that aren't toe socks. They are made to the shape of your foot and are not tight - and there is a specific left and right sock. Plus 12 is a great brand with this option and there are some others around as well.

I have those boots in black. Absolutely love them! Worn them exclusively for hiking over the last 3 years. Would never go back to a narrow toe boot. They are the only boots that have allowed me to hike for over 3 hours without metatarsalgia(pain in the ball of my foot that then caused me to limp). Thanks for a great video ❤

I was looking at those boots in your other videos, nw I know I saw it correctly, they are barefoot. I used barefoot shoes for 4 years now and I can't use "normal" shoes anymore. The Zero drop correct posture and "normal" shoes give me back pain and hurt my knees.

I've worn zero-drop for about the last two years, but don't feel ready to go completely barefoot shoes - sensitive feet, and bruise the sole of my heel too easily still. When it comes to ankle health, though .. thick ankles and ~30yrs of badminton at a competitive level - I don't remember injuring an ankle since I was a kid.

Spent 20 years so far in minimalist shoes -boots.. I would suggest you look in to the issues that can result from transition from regular shoes to minimalist shoes.. some perhaps most will have to transition over a long periods of time and train in them because it will change how you move and it's not with out the risk of serious injury (s) or niggling ones like plantar fasciitis.
