Ever thought you’d love to marry the sonic qualities of a deep, bold 6L6 and a chewy, harmonically complex EL84 in one amp? The Carr Telstar does just that, and blasts a new tonal template into the stratosphere as a result, attaining myriad ‘brand-new classic’ tones you previously didn’t know existed.
The key to the Telstar’s unique capabilities lies in its merger of two very different power tubes in the same push-pull output stage: a 5881 (6L6GC type) exerts solidity, control, and a bountiful low end; an EL84 slathers on sinewy, complex, overtone-laden shimmer and bite. There’s really nothing like it, yet put them together and the plethora of tones available are instantly inspiring.
Dial it all in with the aid of a Lean/Lush switch to tailor the body of the tone and a 53/58 switch to alter the gain structure and the frequencies the Tone control emphasizes, and there’s an amazingly broad range of colors and textures to explore. The Telstar easily achieves recognizable renditions of traditional sounds - tweedy, Marshally, blackfacey - all with superb dynamics and playability. But the amp’s real beauty is in the way it crafts utterly original blends from the broad sonic palette, which instantly sound iconic and expressive all on their own. Dial it all anywhere from 16 watts to 0 via the Telstar’s built-in attenuator, and it’s perfect for home, club, and studio alike.

Yep, that Toto song's stuck in my head now. Great demo, Mike.

I reckon it's the best amp out for vintage/modern clean and crunch. Totally a unique design. Less is more.

I've used a KT66 with mine and it is glorious. Excellent amp. Not sure why a bought a few others since.
This one can do everything I need for americana/roots/country/rock... Wish there were more demos. Carr rocks!

I played one of these will visiting Chicago music exchange and ended up with the guitar I was testing. Sold it a few months later, probably should have bout the amp instead. The variable attenuation is amazing, like a better Master volume.

I hope these gear manufacturers are paying you well. You demonstrate each and every product showing the best features and tones available! Great “Africa” BTW. Just saw Luke with Ringo doing it!

Nice demo/playing, as always! Steve makes great amps! I have an old Carr Rambler, that’s still sounding great!

Reminds me of the Trinity Tramp kit I built which is a simple 2 tube champ like thing with bias toggles to allow swapping of octal power tube and a power pot.
This design of pairing any octal with an el84 is great. The minimalist controls are great, though I wouldn't mind bass+treb instead of tone.
I hope these does well. This is what amps are meant to be.

That was a great tour. I’m on my way to get one tomorrow and I wanted one last check to be sure. And now, I’m sure. Bravo.

Mike, I am so sorry to request this, but my wallet called and said that amp demos are out of the question. This is due to the effect that your videos already have on my pedal purchasing. Thank you for sharing.

I also hear the Rambler on another channel and always think what a real step up some boutique amps can really be. These Carr's are really great. Sadly, they're not in my budget nor can I do them the justice Mr. Hernams here can bring out of them. Great demo.

Love my Telstar but it’s impossible to use without an attenuator. Mine lives tethered to a captorX.

Does it seems to me that the strat and tele doesn't sound like strat and tele through this amp? But Carr amps r cool anyway!

    17 watts ?

    • @Les537
      @Les537 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Depends on what tube you pair with the el84 which is 7 or 8 watts or so. A 6v6 is maybe 5 or 6 watts and a 6L6 or el34 is maybe 8-10 watts or so.

My friend, Randy Bemis, of Bemis amps made an amp similar to this called the Simplex which was 18w. It was the first amp I'm aware of that had scalable volume like this on a rheostat pot and not incremental and it was fantastic. Wish I bought it.

Your arrangements are really inspiring, makes me want to practice more instead of rely on effects pedals to do all the work for me.
