I have to respectfully disagree. I found Advance's story to be like a middle school drama (it came out the year I was leaving high school). It's juvenile at the best of times, trying to be deep but coming off as not understanding what deep even means. The main character sucks, the supports suck (Exception: Montblanc, who is amazing in all versions), and the ending is just... bleh. Ritz especially is the worst. TA2, however, doesn't bother with most of the drama, instead embracing the childlike WONDER instead. Luso is a fun loving kid on an adventure, and he's going to enjoy it, not try to drag everything down just because he's not sure where he is anymore. Even Adell's attempts to drag the story down don't survive Luso's boundless energy and optimism. The first thing Marche does in the new world is accidental racism, a lot of apologizing, and freaking out. The first thing Luso does in the new world is try and poke a giant chicken in the eye!
@@prince_nocturne how on Earth did Marche commit "accidental racism"? If you're going to point out his shock at meeting literally the first sentient non-human species in his life (and learning that there are even more) as racism, you're out of your mind.
Well, A2 doesn't have a whole lot of story. The majority of the game's plot is "do enough sidequests to progress", and the second biggest portion is all about secondary characters and an antagonist whose backstory is never explained, despite being set up as a foil to Luso. A1, on the other hand, spends most of that time with proper worldbuilding and playing Marche, Ritz, Mewt, and Doned off each other - it makes your playable character actually feel like the protagonist, which does a lot to immerse you in the world. A2 has some fantastic side stories and tertiary characters, don't get me wrong, but they're diamonds in the rough.

I've noticed that hardly anyone seems to understand this game, which is odd because the theme is actually really simple: running away from your problems instead of confronting them is a destructive way to live. The problem with the game is that it does a shit job at convincing the player. All the important details are there (hell, in some versions of the game, La-grim had the sole intent on killing these kids), but Marche doesn't address any of it, and therefore, neither does the player
Its not the games fault at all. In fact, i find the game does a good job at doing that. Problem is the majority of people have trouble with basic interpretation. The message is literally spelled out to you
I think one issue is that Marche has very little character growth compared to his contemporaries. In a way, Babus was right that Marche was the “real” enemy, but that only evoked a small stammering response from the main character, not any significant reflection. Like, what are the actual ramifications of everyone continuing to live in this Ivalice? Would they lose control of themselves and just become part of the game? Would they cease to exist otherwise? I don’t think that part is flushed out as much so the stakes aren’t there.
Imagine Marche being summoned to the Chaos side and being manipulated into thinking the world of Dissidia needs to be destroyed to restore the real one
Will you be doing a (RECAPitation) of FF tactics A2 grimoire of the rift at any point! Loved that game and love these videos so would be awesome if you could 🙏🦾
At first the judge system was a bit annoying. But after figuring out how to maneuver around and change laws on battles, and the eventual law cards, it really made the game more fun to play! I loved forcing laws on battles where I know I'm going to get the enemy penalized or forced into bot using stronger moves with the use of a law card lol

I look forward to hearing from you! Otherwise, it was such a pleasure to revisit this game I put dozens of hours into on my old GBA. EDIT: I am aware that a few times during the video, there is a buffer frame from the beginning of the video that flashes for a second... this is NOT from the source video and is a weird youtube upload glitch I believe resulted from debuting via the Premiere stream. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I can do on my end since its a youtube-side problem. Thank you for your understanding. EDIT 2: Looks like this fixes itself after a day when youtube fully processes the video, it seems. The next RECAPitation will be: Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht (Patron poll winner) (but something else may be posted first depending on when I finish)
God as a kid you don’t realize how mature this story is and you almost question why Marche is so adamant about going home but as a adult you completely understand I guess he just so much more mature then everybody else
Ever since I picked up this game as a kid many years ago, I got hooked on the perfectly paced storytelling, the fantastical worlds, and the addictive gameplay that the tactics saga had to offer. Thanks for reminding me just why I love these games! Have you considered making a video on the Ogre Battle saga?
I remember this was the fist game i bought with my own money, was 11 years old cleaning silverware at a family friends restaurant. First check bought this game a cactus cooler and some hot cheeto asteroids( if you know you know). Amazing game!!!
I loved these kind of games when I was younger, I even made some videos about strategy, rpg and other genres on GBA, and sometimes I play them on my pc and mobile, using VBA
remember playing it when i was a kid, and I had a hyper powerful character that could 1v6 in the jagds. It was something like: Feather boots, Angellic Ring, Mirror Mail, 2x Blood Swords, Strikeback, as a Paladin Class with ninja sub class. I replayed the game, to try to recapture this feeling, and man.... rose-tinted glasses are really something. Maybe because I was young, I felt more powerful than i do now, with loads of tactics experience under my belt now. Interesting feeling, and great video.
Wow I never got to finish this game and 17 years later I finally got to learn how it ended, thank you! This made me remember how conflicted I was playing as Marche and progressing his agenda to bring the real world back. I actually wanted them to stay in Ivalice forever. Causing conflicting emotions throughout the entire game.
Oh geez, so nostalgic. I still remember how the story goes, but I forgot their names and appearances. I'm really proud that I've the most OP character compared to my cousins with the least amount of playtime. Thanks for the video
I still remember the day I bought it, played it and I've loved it ever since. It's so nostalgic, I absolutely recommend it to anyone into fantasy games. Truly understated imo!
I have played this game before on my GBA and finished the game. I also unlock the special character who was Judge Cid who was capable of manipulating the current law (so OP). 🔥😊😉
My teen years were pretty much defined by this game. I still have it and I often have the urge to play it, but the DS screen is so small and bad that I can't enjoy it as much as I used to when I didn't have huge screens everywhere.
While the laws in this game suck there's at least ways of probably knowing what the law is going to be in the next fight. Also, being able to change equipment before the fight starts and seeing the field before picking your units are good additions to the series. I feel A2's changes to the law system are a large improvement, but Advance is still a good game
My all time favorite game. I have bought so many CRPGs trying to recapture the joy of playing this game for the first time, but they all fell short for me.
Daniel Ramsey a) Ace is already in the game, as is Onion Knight and they’re not adults, and b) Marche already fights adults in this game, what’s your point? Jecht can lose to his own kid, it’s not impossible.
thats because there is a quest that requires i think 2 or 3 quest items thing is you can only acquire 1 of them in your game in other words you have to trade with another player for it forgot which items those were...there are copies of the game out there if you are lucky can get all the items but hear they are few
Yeah it took a while to figure that some missions are only around during certain parts of the story, so if you progress too much you’ve already derped. Also some items trigger quests to appear after you examine, such as The Hero Gaol item. It’s wise to loop through the 4 seasons as much as you can before progressing the story
The FF Tactics series in general are games that are SO damn good. FFT War of the Lions, FFTA, FFTA 2. These games are rich in story, gameplay and it will give you hundreds upon hundreds of hours of fun.
ahh! if it's a TH-cam glitch then that's not on you! understandable but still a great video (hopefully we see an A2 recap because I just love the Ivalice world)
Thanks for the video, this series is great! Something to consider: It would be helpful in future videos if text you added to the screen was not place at the bottom, that is often covered by captions and difficult for people who require them.
:D aww. I used to kill him on purpose because I didn't like his outfit and that he couldn't change it or be fired. I would also have killed Marche for that exact same reason if he hadn't been the protagonist.
Okey i was waiting for this, since i saw people say that this game is in same universe as final fantssy 12, but sadly the games doesnt seem as something i would enjoy playing. Yout channel is amazing btw
Many people hate Marche for doing what he did, but for me he did the right thing and was mature enough to face the facts. That's what made him the hero of the story.
I used to hate the advanced series until I started to play it It's awesome and brought up awesome new additions, and simplified a ton of things that were overcomplicated in the PS1/psp game (and unfortunately removed some due to hardware limitations)
Plays map for 2 hours and steals gear from enemies only to get a judgement card towards the end because you forgot and were playing so long. Sigh *resets game*
I find That Marche is the most interesting final fantasy protagonist to date, seriously people need to stop hating marche and do a deep dive on his character.

The next RECAPitation will be: Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht (Patron poll winner) (but something else may be posted first depending on when I finish)
can you please do corpse party? start with corpse party blood covered on PSP.
God as a kid you don’t realize how mature this story is and you almost question why Marche is so adamant about going home but as a adult you completely understand I guess he just so much more mature then everybody else
so ironic that i keep coming back to this game every time i remember it and it gets better and better every replay
Still waiting for SE to make a new tactics game...
@@nekotorin We all are. :/
I remember this was the fist game i bought with my own money, was 11 years old cleaning silverware at a family friends restaurant. First check bought this game a cactus cooler and some hot cheeto asteroids( if you know you know). Amazing game!!!
whoever is playing this game, remember to use assassin's theyre the most broken class in the game
**Dodges and Counter-attacks**
Time mage , juggler , assassin combo too Op
I prefere the paladin.
I use Cheer on my Templar and do 999 dmg
Gotta love having a 100% accurate instant kill move. Combo it with a Juggler's Smile or Time Mage's Quicken for more fun.
This game mesmerized me as a kid. I was enthralled.
I loved these kind of games when I was younger, I even made some videos about strategy, rpg and other genres on GBA, and sometimes I play them on my pc and mobile, using VBA
remember playing it when i was a kid, and I had a hyper powerful character that could 1v6 in the jagds. It was something like:
Feather boots, Angellic Ring, Mirror Mail, 2x Blood Swords, Strikeback, as a Paladin Class with ninja sub class.
I replayed the game, to try to recapture this feeling, and man.... rose-tinted glasses are really something. Maybe because I was young, I felt more powerful than i do now, with loads of tactics experience under my belt now. Interesting feeling, and great video.
I played this game so much, and I still do! It's so good, I love the game mechanics so much and it's really nostalgic for me.
def one of my fav tactic game growing up!
Actually paying through it again right now. Thanks for the video, glad the game is still somewhat relevant nowadays.
One of my Fave games ever
My teen years were pretty much defined by this game. I still have it and I often have the urge to play it, but the DS screen is so small and bad that I can't enjoy it as much as I used to when I didn't have huge screens everywhere.
This is quite great timing of this video since I recently thought about rebeating the game.
Finally! Welcome back recapitation series!
Thanks a bunch. I never finished the game but i have invested more than 150 hours into this game back in the day... Great art and ost!
While the laws in this game suck there's at least ways of probably knowing what the law is going to be in the next fight. Also, being able to change equipment before the fight starts and seeing the field before picking your units are good additions to the series. I feel A2's changes to the law system are a large improvement, but Advance is still a good game
It’s been sooooo long! I can’t wait! Stress is way over normal!
I absolutely love this game, it really does have a beautiful story.
These vids are so simple but damn how I'm always in anticipation of the next one
My all time favorite game. I have bought so many CRPGs trying to recapture the joy of playing this game for the first time, but they all fell short for me.
one of the greatest games ever. I played this game to death
I'd love to have Marche in Dissidia, they put Ramza and Ace in.
Kids can't Tango with Grown men. Jecht would wreck him:)
Daniel Ramsey a) Ace is already in the game, as is Onion Knight and they’re not adults, and b) Marche already fights adults in this game, what’s your point? Jecht can lose to his own kid, it’s not impossible.
Marche, Ritz, or Monteblanc
Nah, the only thing he'd want is to go home
This game is my chieldhood. i was sickly boy as Doned.
Loved this too. Put so many hours into it and it’s sequel that I cannot tell than apart in my memories anymore 🤣
Please do Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2! I would love nothing more
yes!! for ds 3d
I kinda like the overall moral in this one! Thanks Oni!
I was never able to get all the 300 missions to appear. Always stuck around 270.
thats because there is a quest that requires i think 2 or 3 quest items thing is you can only acquire 1 of them in your game in other words you have to trade with another player for it forgot which items those were...there are copies of the game out there if you are lucky can get all the items but hear they are few
Nice. Any plans for xenosaga?
@DonJuan Yates Bioshock 4?
good video but there's constant flashes of the title card throughout the video please fix that
edit: it's a TH-cam glitch! it's not him
Not me, a youtube glitch that out of my hands. Nothing I can do unfortunately.
ahh! if it's a TH-cam glitch then that's not on you! understandable but still a great video
(hopefully we see an A2 recap because I just love the Ivalice world)
This game was my favorite out of every one
Being a ninja is such a treat
I think this ff story can be well adapted to a series.
replayed this game a couple hundred times, even until today for 15 years wew. . hehe loved this game and ff12 so much specially the ivalice world
Ivalice world is awesome. It's great that you replay it
wow wtf such a beautiful story that completely went over my head as a kid
Thanks for the video, this series is great!
Something to consider: It would be helpful in future videos if text you added to the screen was not place at the bottom, that is often covered by captions and difficult for people who require them.
I remember when my Montblanc died in Jagd hunt and I cried for days :(
:D aww.
I used to kill him on purpose because I didn't like his outfit and that he couldn't change it or be fired. I would also have killed Marche for that exact same reason if he hadn't been the protagonist.
My Name Is Mar Shay
Okey i was waiting for this, since i saw people say that this game is in same universe as final fantssy 12, but sadly the games doesnt seem as something i would enjoy playing.
Yout channel is amazing btw
yes and no. "dream version"
Terrific little game. Viera red mages and assassins were my go to recruits. No because they were good, because they were cool.
It's good to have you back , Oni! ^_^👍👌
I loved Tactics Advanced, and I really enjoyed A2 as well.
I hope one day we can return to a new game set in this version of Ivalice.
Thanks! Bought the game, but was too slow for me so I just wanted to know the story and you helped me with that :)
Will we get Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for the DS?
Oh yea, my favourite tactics game. More than Fire Emblem.
Many people hate Marche for doing what he did, but for me he did the right thing and was mature enough to face the facts. That's what made him the hero of the story.
amazing soundtrack too
Yea, and A2 soundtrack is godlike, especially the kings. I always wished FFT had an amazing soundtrack like the Advance series.
My Favorite Final Fantasy Game
I used to hate the advanced series until I started to play it
It's awesome and brought up awesome new additions, and simplified a ton of things that were overcomplicated in the PS1/psp game (and unfortunately removed some due to hardware limitations)
great video! I would Love to watch a recapitation of the persona series :D
I'd be in the Heaven if there was one for the 5 games.
Plays map for 2 hours and steals gear from enemies only to get a judgement card towards the end because you forgot and were playing so long.
Sigh
*resets game*
I played the hell outta this game every night during basic training in 2003!
You should do more of the "Tales" series, specifically Tales of Symphonia.
Marche is a homesick child with too much freedom.
This was my first Final fantasy game
I find That Marche is the most interesting final fantasy protagonist to date, seriously people need to stop hating marche and do a deep dive on his character.
It was okay to hate him at first. It shows that those who hate him are still immature. Those who understand him has some degree of understanding
Thank you for this video, made. Extremely helpful. Keep up the good work.
hope you do Revneant wings at some point
My favorite tactical game. They even had a 2 player mode me and my cousin would link our gameboys up and trade and battle. Good ole days 😪
A1 and A2 both got a power scaling system that's so satisfying, even Disgaea gets jealous
Why aren’t there more games like the Final Fantasy Tactics series? I love the gameplay
Honestly I liked this game and I dont mind the judge system, I feel folks complain about it way too much.
Its not FFT but its not meant to be, its a kid friendly spinoff that stands on its own.
Judge system was shit And completely ruined the game. Completely ruined it.
Aaaah.. that nostalgic trip 🥰
I bought this game used and it had a saved file with over 300 hours. The previous owner must’ve absolutely loved it.
Can't wait for the tactics a2 video, and hopefully you'll do any shadow hearts, more breath of fire games, etc. Just saw you did one of 4
