It's hard to believe Hayley Westenra was only 19 years old when she sang this song. This aria is from the opera, Rinaldo (1711) by Handel. It is about a woman named Almirena during the Crusades who is held captive while her lover Rinaldo has gone off elsewhere trying to find her. In the aria, she is expressing her remorse to her captor Argante, the Saracen king of Jerusalem who has just disclosed his passion at first sight for her. My thanks to Kaoru for posting this fine video and for including the original Italian words as well as an English translation.

うわあ〜屋外の舞台演出といい夢のようですね。彼女の声は広い美しい草原の中で歌ってるよう。シセルもクリスタルボイスですが、どこまでも雪とフィヨルドの似合う透明感。やはり声も生まれた国が表れるのかな？
How absolutely superb to hear two of my favourite celtic women singing and playing violin to my all time favourite aria. Haileys singing was beautiful and pitch perfect and Mairead's interpretation on violin was a real WOW moment for me. I know from my own experience of producing Rinaldo at my old school that it is not an easy aria to get right.
David you have pulled a real corker out of the hat with this one. I salute you sir.

I love how it is pitched down. She sings it a third lower... Though, for a "non-opera singer", it is a suprinsingly good rendition.

Hayley'voice is so unique, Some peoples thought it sounds like an oboe or they did some special auto tune to come up with her voice like that.
but it was in fact her one of a kind voice that sounds fantastically beautiful and unique that makes peoples wonder.
It was just her natural voice that sounds like no any others.
I love her voice and her brilliant talent .
Definitely one of my favorites beside Jacky Evancho and Patricia Janeckova.
I prefer the contempory version of this song rather then the opera one. Nicely sung Haley.
It goes by many versions, proformed by amazing singers, but she simply give that beautiful song everything possible, it does not get any better, just different.....

ここの城でのコンサートなどDVDでも聴いているが、音自体はここでの録音なのだろうか？
あまりに野外として響きが良すぎ。雑音も入らない。しかし観客の拍手なども一致しているように見える。
風が吹けば音の流れや雑音も入るだろうし。
ヘイリーウェステンラは日本のカラオケの番組にも出演し、高い歌唱力は機械採点でも高かった。カラオケ採点など歌唱力を判断する手段としては成り立たないが、歌の基本、土台としての目安にはなる。
ヘイリーはとくに優れた歌手であり、世界から認められるのは当然。
しかも、日本人にとっても親近感を覚える日本顔な気がする。なぜか懐かしい、友、の顔に感じている。

So, she WAS a ballerina in the New Zealand Royal Ballet, but not anymore.

I can recall that day, March 23 2007 when I went to see Celtic Woman (a new journey) at the Ovens auditorium in Charlotte NC, Hayley Westenra and the other Girls , Amazed us with their Beautiful Voices!!
