No world has quite captured my entire mind like the Eternal Ruins. Its graceful design and obvious recognisability along with the some extremely soft and intriguing world building makes it impossible to stop thinking about, for me. Also, the lore videos that are sparingly dropped only offer more questions and expansion to the Eternal Ruins, such that in my own head - and indeed in many others, I'm sure - I have my own set of answers and lore for the entire world like headcanon that makes it so very personal and intimate, very unlike any other world of fantasy I've encountered. I love the Eternal Ruins 💚.
Wow that is so nice to hear, thank you! I'm glad you have your own version of the ruins in your head, I want it to be setting-rich rather than canon-rich.
Yeess I feel the exact same! I've never been a fanart person, but this truly makes me just want to sit down and draw beautiful architecture and awe-inspiring structures, moss-covered walls and ancient servitors. it's incredible, it almost feels addictive. Like when you're in the middle of a great book and you wonder what'll happen next, only there is no obvious end in sight!! Uhh sorry if that was too over-the-top dramatic, but I truly do mean it. I so agree with you
@@Jonanation Precisely. Hell, I've never even been a commenting person on TH-cam, (nor a patreon person), yet I have to show my appreciation somehow and I honestly might surrender my entire savings to the Great Spirits.
Mapmaking is very difficult, because: - the structure of the ruins is very complex and messy - many places are very similar - some parts of the ruins are inaccessible or somewhat hidden - some parts of the ruins are dangerous - some parts of the ruins are very dark - the ruins are a 3-dimensional structure; it's a challenge to show that on a 2d map - the ruins are huge (maybe endless) - the ruins change over time (e.g. because of servators)
Yes, I am really curious about if "Nessen" will encounter servant robots changing the ruins! I wonder how he would react, since many of the seemingly very old maps are mostly correct! Would this mean that not all of the Ruins get rebuilt? Or just haven't been rebuilt yet? So many questions
Ever since I stumbled upon this at around the first videos, I'm entranced by the worldbuilding, and your frequent use of unreliable/limited layperson character narrators makes the whole experience more... alive. As if we're really looking through something written by someone long ago. This is probably just my romaboo brainworms acting up, but the Ruins vaguely remind me of 5th century Rome. A colossal, crumbling cadaver whose scope in life would be difficult to overstate, and even in this post-calamity condition, its beauty and awe-inspring nature persists. Thank you. May this project gain the recognition it deserves.
I used to be an environment artist in the games industry and the world you've created is like crack to me. Such a lovely, consistent style to the artwork and the mysterious lore - GAH! Just wonderful!
Oh good, one sprite for each of us, I was getting parched. Just teasing. This is a really great story and the presentation is perfect for the setting and is totally bubbling up ideas in my head for adventures.
I always thought about trying to develop a videogame about map making. I think it could be cool concept. Thanks for these soothing videos :) If you are ever interested in somebody doing voice work of any kind, hit me up, I'd love to help.
IS THAT A NON-DIRECTIONAL LANGUAGE I SEE!?!?! Never saw anyone else do it or even try!!! That is awesome! Please PLEASE tell me if that's a conlang, just a font or only decoration! I would love to try decipher it even though I have no experience, lol! Also I noticed... "minor mistakes" in the maps? Has this place been changed or did the maps? Maybe just the ink faded by time? Maybe that's why there are text, to warn those about the shifting rooms? Nevertheless, this next story seems very very interesting.
HNNNGGGG I WANT MOREEE. Honestly though, the best part of this project really has to be how it's all presented. As the mytsery behind the world leaves you yearning for more of it. Can't wait for part two!
I really like your voice and narration on top of great art. The world gives me so many questions but I think this is one of those that are to be watched and enjoyed instead of understood or making sense :P I see many inspirations in art and the world. Mostly I imagine it being a game like Hollow Knight but it seems there is much less fighting, more exploring, maybe like game Journey, Shadow of the Colosus, Titan Soul ... so many inspirations but you know in the Eternal Ruins :)
Hahahaha I New iT tHis plAce wAs MANNNN MadE, but I wonder could this place be like a rubix cube , were some the rooms shift and move around. and pleas tell me if I made any spelling mistakes

For some reason it reminds me of a favorite puzzle game of mine called ‘through abandoned’, anyone else know of it? I really enjoyed this story, looking forward to more!❤❤❤
Shortest 5 minutes of my life😂 It seems Wanderers are also pray of the ancient need of purpose and meaning. I can imagine the Mapmaker not being just one Wanderer, but many, through countless ages. Their work is their only legacy. Can't wait to hear more about Nessen!
I love there is so much mystery about Ruins. Worldbuilding only for its own's sake is making fantasy worlds bland and feel like everything is researched and discovered already. What's the fun in that? 😉
First, thank you for your work. Second, want to let you know, that i draw a lot of inspiration for my game from your world. If I ever get anywhere close to a demo, I defenetly would reach out. Third, great storytelling, but the dialog part is a bit down. Try to record live dialog with someone and cut out bits, at least for practice. Wish you great luck!
love the vibes so much. you capture the empty and vast but wonderous feeling so perfectly. looking for the further development and success of your world.
I myself am like Nessen. I'm curious and I always want to research, to learn about old and ancient, deserted places. I also always found maps interesting 😊 there is something about maps... They can tell you so much about places and locations 😊
I love the eternal ruins, and now the major elements have been laid out hearing stories is amazing. As hearing through it I kept thinking if this could be a contraption of some demon of sorts to capture an acolyte... To absorb him in the mapping task so deep that he'd do anything to protect it... Have you ever thought of going to a webtoon or comic format to capture this stories?
I really enjoyed the story and the whole world of the eternal ruins, I know that you don't plan on making this a video game, but at some point, if it is possible it will be amazing!
The best stories know when to leave something open, leaving it up to the imagination of others. It ends up making the empty spaces of the story feel much bigger and well thought out than even the creator could conceive. The Eternal Ruins is one of these stories.
if life was only a cosmic joke we would be in heaven already. too bad true joy and funny is nowhere on earth or in history due to you all wokring for money and hating good and thinking doing good to friends and neighbors has ANYTHING to do with being a good person instead of just being a possessive and evil person who doesnt care about anyone but self and your possessed illusions of your self
most of the lore up until this point has been told from Atti's perspective, so it's cool to hear other wanderers telling stories! I love this fireside format so much!

@@Eternal_ruins It's really cool that we actually have a canon character with a name and personality now. I hope you're able to keep doing it for years to come.
I love the framing story with the dramatically convenient tea kettle, that’s a wonderful touch.
Haha thanks! I needed something to break up the video into manageable chunks
@Eternal_ruins, why not a map that changes itself?
Dramatically Convenient Tea Kettle is my favourite trope
@@skistorm739isn't it so much more interesting without one?
@bell2023 just because don't need to many maps or one after the other, waste of paper overtime pathways change, it's better be safe than sorry
Bug catcher of the ruins here, happy to listen to the story :]
I want there to be a Bug Catcher of the Ruins character now.... imagining giant, beastly bugs crawling about the halls and walls...
I'm gonna be the friendly local bird watcher then! Just, watching and drawing those funny little fellows :]
Mind if I were the friendly neighborhood botanist?
Bug catchers unite!!!
i'm convinced the storyteller is so good at telling stories that they knew how to time it with the tea kettle to add suspense
