I LOVE the way he sings this to her and I LOVE her reaction; it is wonderful. I fell madly in love with him at the age of 10 when I saw this movie. It was an era and the one movie that was made for him.
I was about that age in Australia . Still know nearly all the words to all the songs. Dreamed of singing like Gordon McRae, and fell in love with guess who.
OKLAHOMA! Gordon McRae and Shirley Jones! Gordon has a fabulous voice and Shirley also has a fabulous voice and is totally beautiful! This video is a piece of American history! I think it is a masterpiece. A great performance!!
Oh thank you for this! I have always had the same reaction, for decades. How validating to hear Mr Hammerstein particularly loved it. He wrote so many marvelous, enchanting and moving songs. This one is the one that always kills me. And I haven't heard anyone do it better than Mr MacRae.
My honestly favorite musical duet ever. I grew up on this movie. I can honestly say this is my favorite rodgers and Hammerstein film. Gordon and Shirley have such lovely voices.
This is my favourite musical of all-time. My mom took the me to see this film when I was 7, and I loved it so much, that we stayed in the cinema to watch it again!
They don't make movies like this anymore because there aren't any actors that can pull it off. These people could sing, dance, act and look great doing it.
@@FTLNewsFeed No, I saw the stage version with Hugh Jackman, and it was excellent. But those kind of talents are usually on the stage, not making films.
MY Grandmother and Great Aunt took myself and my cousin JAnet to see this move.....60 years ago....Ive loved musicals since then and I'm not Gay.....Talent!!!!!!
@Philkid3 YES! I was in Oklahoma in my community theater and the summer after the show my family went to Disneyland and it was the first time I had noticed they played a bunch of songs from Oklahoma on Main Street. I'm glad somebody else is observant too :)
Rebecca Bass Oh honey you are not the only one. If someone who looked like him with that voice hit on me, he could pick me up in a power wheels car and still get laid.
The river will ripple out a whispered song And whisper it over and over Pure genius imagery The sun is swimmin' on the rim of the hill The moon is takin' a header Wow!
I think Oklahoma had more single hits than most any other Broadway play, saw this so many times when it came out, the Broadway show came out about 1945,same time State Fair, Finnians Rainbow, and, Brigadoon, + others, much as I love themall, OKLAHOMA is amazing .
Absolutely wonderful. This song, one of my favourites from a long list of musical genius melodies from Richard Rogers, twined with Oscar Hammersteins beautiful and often very witty lyrics, with two perfect singers. Shirley Jones sings also the haunting 'Out of my dreams' song from this show, surely a melody up there with 'Some enchanted Evening' from south Pacific. How have we got to here now in 2023 with so much bile everywhere, and talentless individuals hailed as stars?
Love this movie, it's a favourite in my family. Always found it wonderful in all musicals how they would just burst out into song and dance. BANG. Everyone knows the words and are right in step. XD But yes, this song, like all of them in this superb musical, are quite nifty.
I love this scene! It amazes me how wonderful the backdrop looks. Could the camera crew ask for a more beautiful day? They were lucky! Wonderful song coupled with blue skies and sunshine ... makes this one of the best scenes in cinematic history!
Incredible retrospective of an era of legendary stars, equally superb movie-making that is anachronistic types of which never to be seen again in newly released form that is gone with the wind.
If you add the very clever lyrics from Oscar Hammerstein to the clip clop rhythm of Richard Roger's music you have something of a little masterpiece. Perfectly performed by Gordon.
Always wondered what an isinglass curtain was... I was only 4 when the movie came out... probably saw it on a black and white tv a couple years later. I've loved it ever since.
Genuinely good people , with all their “fallies” only could be written by genuinely good authors. Wander if they ever look down on us from far above and what are they thinking.
G major -to- E major -to- C# major -to- Bb major, back to G major. Richard Rodgers, you were incredible. Cascading major chords a minor-3rd down each time. Absolute genius!
Today's dialogue: "Why don't you just grab her and kiss her when she acts that, Curley!" "Because I don't want to be arrested for assault and thrown in jail, Etta!" Reminds me of my youthful dating experience: "She likes you...quite a lot." "If she liked me any more she would sick the dogs on me!" Love it. Great movie clip. Thanks for posting this.
She has the face and voice of an angel, there's no doubt about that. I'd say watching her, and listening to her sing was the only thing in this movie I enjoyed, except I couldn't stand her character.
My Dad would wake us kids up to Oh What A Beautiful Morning. He passed in 1984. It is now 2024. 40 years ago. I still tear up when I think of it.
Gordon and Shirley are absolutely perfect. Listen to his phrasing. His soft singing. I am happy to be alive to hear him.
They were the perfect duo for R&H musicals. No one today can top them.
What am absolutely golden voice he has. And so handsome! Shirley is just as talented & as good-looking! Wonderful team.
So true!
Rogers & Hammerstein were complete musical geniuses. Their musicals appeal to the heart and so continue to have timeless appeal.
His voice is so powerful and he can just fall into such a sweet, gentle part that just makes me melt.
An incredible voice - MacRae’s voice is one of the best I have ever heard
If you like this one. Check out Gordon McRae singing of “it’s magic“.
OKLAHOMA! Gordon McRae and Shirley Jones! Gordon has a fabulous voice and Shirley also has a fabulous voice and is totally beautiful! This video is a piece of American history! I think it is a masterpiece. A great performance!!
I just love this song
Out of all his songs, this is the one that always brought tears to Mr. Hammerstein's eyes.
Oh thank you for this! I have always had the same reaction, for decades. How validating to hear Mr Hammerstein particularly loved it. He wrote so many marvelous, enchanting and moving songs. This one is the one that always kills me. And I haven't heard anyone do it better than Mr MacRae.

I was raised on this movie. I still get goosebumps listening to these songs
My honestly favorite musical duet ever. I grew up on this movie. I can honestly say this is my favorite rodgers and Hammerstein film. Gordon and Shirley have such lovely voices.
Same.
Such a great song. I think this is R & H's best musical, even though the Sound of Music is good too. This one is pure gold.
Shirley Jones very, very under-rated.
Exquisite beauty, with a fantastic voice. I think she was all of eighteen when she did this. Stunning.
This is my favourite musical of all-time. My mom took the me to see this film when I was 7, and I loved it so much, that we stayed in the cinema to watch it again!
I just love these 2 stars singing together! She is beautiful, and he was so handsome. So sorry that he passed away as young as he did! Love, Liz
Oh I miss that great decades of musical I grew up with.
God.. what a beautiful singer. I know now why my mum had tons of his stuff :)
I love these old movies.
My dad loved this song, and it's even better when you can see how he melts her with it. The ending of the scene is just hysterical!
I watched this movie sooo many times! My grandfather gave me the cd when i was younger and i always replayed this song over and over again :)
Hugh Jackman's version was nice, but Gordon Macrae IS Curly. I have never heard a better version than this.
so true
Only one Curly. Thank you 😊
wow what chemistry between then!
They don't make movies like this anymore because there aren't any actors that can pull it off. These people could sing, dance, act and look great doing it.
So you think that in the past 55 years humans have changed so drastically that we could no longer pull this off?
@@FTLNewsFeed No, I saw the stage version with Hugh Jackman, and it was excellent. But those kind of talents are usually on the stage, not making films.
Seth McFarland probably could pull it off.. it might not be as classy, but sure would be entertaining.. lol
@martel - You got that right!!!!
This is such a beautiful musical, always super to hear and see these two talented stars.
This is so clear, sharp, and colorful. Many of the videos I watch are grainy, blurred, dark, or all three. Excellent! Thanks, BravoDivine!
Thank you Stephen Colbert and Jon Batiste... my ears have been opened!
Great clip. I haven't seen this in a long time. Gordon MacRae is so great and I fell in love with Shirley Jones many years ago. Thanks.

Still my favorite standard from the American songbook..
The man had a great voice!!!
His voice ❤️😍
If everything was done like this song was there wouldn't be any problems! Magnificent.
amen brother too much hate in this old world
My very thought. What have we become?
Thanks for the thought.
Amen!
Actually he did. He tells Aunt Eller he has hired the rig- he said he'd made it up because Laurey was being so mean to him.
@Philkid3 YES! I was in Oklahoma in my community theater and the summer after the show my family went to Disneyland and it was the first time I had noticed they played a bunch of songs from Oklahoma on Main Street. I'm glad somebody else is observant too :)
Show me one person who can resist that voice, and I'll show you a tin ear at best, at worst, a stone heart.
God, I am SO glad I'm not the only one who noticed!
Rebecca Bass
Oh honey you are not the only one. If someone who looked like him with that voice hit on me, he could pick me up in a power wheels car and still get laid.
+Jason Durham i love the truthhes very good
Laurie resisted it! She's so silly at the beginning.
The river will ripple out a whispered song

Definitely one of my favorites!

John Shaw into the sky!
What a great song. Tru craftsmanship. Add in a wonderful performance and you got perfection!

This is a sweet song.
"Watch that fringe and see how it flutters, when I drive them high steppin' strutters." Heh heh. Ain't no finer rig is right, Oscar.

They say the other is more like Milk
Ingenious! Slik!

This is mine and my daddy’s song. It makes me tear up every time.

This brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Pretty heavy stuff once you really get it.

Amazing thing - HER first movie, no big experience at all but they took a chance and found a huge star!!!
When I first heard this song, I thought he was saying "when I take you out in Missouri" - I thought, wait, isn't this play set in Oklahoma?? lol
Gordon MacRae
Born: March 12, 1921, East Orange, New Jersey, United States
Died: January 24, 1986,
absolute classic

God! great movie of a great time!
Love that last line.. "If she liked me any more she'd sic the dogs onto me."
Great song! Gets stuck in my head but I don't mind!
He is so great singer ... and cute
He was plenty of handsome
My, Shirley sure does look radiant. I'd marry her too, after this number! lol.
She has the face and voice of an angel, there's no doubt about that. I'd say watching her, and listening to her sing was the only thing in this movie I enjoyed, except I couldn't stand her character.
That's real Female power and Ya gotta love it!
Dave Bass .. Shirley? I thought her name was Laurie
Dave Bass oh I'm sorry, I thought you were referring to the characters. Ignore what I said - Shirley and Gordon did amazing in this movie!
Thank you, Bravo!!
Ultimate casting. They were perfect together.
Nobody can write songs like this anymore, no matter what assoles think. It's bloody clever and talented!!!!!🙄
