Although one typically needs a burning desire to complete a challenging project, desires are fickle and change over time. When I was 15 my burning desire was to play baseball for the New York Yankees. It didn’t happen. When it became clear that my talents were not sufficient to play MLB, I reformulated my intention. My burning desire became to study at Oxford. It didn’t happen overnight, but I did eventually earn my degree from Oxford. In the process of selecting one’s desires, one would be well advised to measure desires against natural talents. And, to keep in mind that some talents are not evident in one’s adolescence or twenties.

    Hello Andrew,
I only want to say Thank you. In the last 6 Weeeks I watched almost your whole channel, I got and read your Book from Amazon and read lots of articles in your Website trying to get all the information possible in order to make my plan.. I also tried to work with you directly because I know that you know a lot more than what you say but it seems you are working only with people from USA, Australia etc. Personally I still want to work with you but if I can´t... I only want to say thank you very much for helping me to create my plan to be a Nomad out of my Home Country.

Andrew...You have been blessed with a special kind of positive wisdom...especially at your age. Right now, at my age of 74, I think of things I would like to do, and things I didn't do. I tell others, (especially others my age) our clock is ticking away. We are in the "November" of our lives. Are we where we want to be, right now? If not, what can we do about it? Andrew says we have to choose. If we don't choose, we will be living in a "default" mode until we die.

Those condos are seriously the most beautiful condos I have ever seen in my life. They are literally everything that I could want in a home. That is my goal. I want to own at least a quarter million dollar condo in Budva. Andrew...you're awesome.

Diving deep down inside yourself and asking why you want something and asking it more times is the way to go in everything in life. It's often painful mentally and spiritually but without it very little in your life will ever improve. I know it first hand struggling for years and slowly making progress. Andrew is absolutely on point

Yeah so many times I’ve heard, “I wish I could do that.” I would always say , “then do.” And the other person would usually look at me like I was crazy, or ask if I wasn’t afraid of not having a job when I got back. A job! Like I would not live my life for fear of a some point being between jobs?
That was just long term travel though. Now that I’m considering giving up citizenship I’m realizing I would rather pay the 20% cap gains taxes but be near my family, now that I’ve finally moved back after decades away from them. Sometimes going where you’re treated best winds up being your mother’s house.

Hello Andrew. This is the most powerful video of yours I have yet seen. I love straight talks from the mind and heart. It is so true. Everyone on that path will one day question their decision. I have had my doubts. But if the "why" is strong enough, it would put some wind in your sail. The WHY is the most important question to answer before setting out. Thanks

Thank you again for your ''self-reflection' videos. We must think about these questions every once in a while. Sometimes people just don't want the inconvenience of having to make difficult decisions---like moving or saying 'no' to others and facing their comments or rejection. Being a Nomad Capitalist isn't for sissies, that's for sure!!! Keep up the great work.

I've found that it's not that helpful to tell someone that if they want x, but they don't do y, then they don't really want it. It could guilt or shame the odd person into jumping into action, but it doesn't get to the core motivation and sift through the chaff of excuses. I do something called repeating questions. It's helpful if someone does this with you-- to sit down for 10 minutes with you (some people do it for an hour or more if they're really seeking enlightenment) and they ask you a previously agreed-upon question like, "why don't you pick up and move to your dream country?". Wait for an answer, take a breath, thank them (without reacting to the answer), then ask them again. And again. Repeat. It's like peeling back the layers of consciousness in a very safe and non-judgmental setting. It's so interesting what people discover about themselves after they've exhausted what they think are their only reasons.

It’s really about opening one’s mind and not following the herd and what most people do and think. To stick to who we really are deep down and what we really want is key to happiness, and this should remain our goal.
Often, being stuck in a given society will prevent that. Thanks for bringing this up.
For some, @Nomad Capitalist might be the key.

Great video, Andrew. I’m the type of person that needs to balance my desire for freedom with my desire for security and familiarity ... I hate traveling to new places and could never handle your lifestyle (nor anything close to how you live). Compared to me, you’re like James Bond. I want my little patch of freedom and security somewhere where the government takes less than 15% (less would be better of course, but 15% is reasonable). However, before I fantasize about traveling to some far off haven, I should get comfortable with driving four hours to visit Salt Lake City, lol. Having said that, your channel is hugely awesome and is helping me expand my thinking.

Solid stuff! These observations can be applied to any new undertaking, but their validity will likely only be recognized by people who have taken the plunge into some new undertaking in one way or another. The folks who are too timid or have a tendency to “wimp out “as you put it are likely to never recognize the saliency of these insights. It basically boils down to “put up or shut up“, but unfortunately I think the reality is that the people who will never put up will never shut up.

Much appreciate your honesty. It boggles my mind how westerners do not consult a good astrologer before they get married or even involved with a business partner, not to mention friends. Not necessarily to get a yes do it or not answer but more to get an understanding of what you are getting yourself into, as to some basics... Even with different locations astrology has an enormous amount to offer. Nevertheless, all the best. People, as you know usually make the decisions they need to, for better or worse, tho it more often that not takes them a long time to realize what they have gotten themselves into... I am an expat of over 30 years :-)

This is by far the best blog that I have seen you do Andrew, very open and honest, appreciated the words of coaching wisdom! Sometimes - and I mean no offense in saying this, you can come across as slightly elitist and that's not surprising considering the social circles and clients that you are a part of in everyday life. Yet, at least for me - this was the first blog that I actually watched a number of times as it resonated with me and my own experiences not only as a mid 6 figure aspirational investor but also as a person working on improving myself. Another very interesting video Andrew and yet again it is very insightful. You are right, people should be honest to themselves and understand what a real commitment is. Nothing in life is easy and people wanting the Nomad Capitalist life style should be prepared for the ups and downs of it all.
On a separate issue, now that the UK looks like it will be leaving the EU, could you do a video sometime about the strength of the British passport? I think it would be a very interesting video because Britain always seems to be the number 1 port of call for many people when they think of immigration.

My husband and I have our life goals that we have written down and we review every month or so to keep track of our progress and to review what's changed, what we want to add to the list and what we're not interested in anymore. We had a review yesterday and have been critically analysing what is important to us and what is it that we want out of being wherever we decide to spend our time... Is being near family and friends enough to anchor us to returning to Australia? Can we get the benefits of keeping in contact with them by visiting the country regularly rather than living just down the street? There's a lot of food for thought and probably a lot more conversations to be had until we can truly understand what we want going forward.

Hmm, this is like someone who is really good at math trying to teach it to someone who isn't: you don't get why it isn't fun for him because it's likely always been fun for you. I totally get what he feels like.
My wife loves long distance running. I can't think of anything less interesting to me. I've tried it, I hate it, it is painful and tiring. It just reminds me of being late for the bus as a kid 😂 She still can't accept that for me it sucks, because she gets a runner's high and it isn't painful for her.
People just like different things, and being honest about it to yourself and others is better than forcing it.

So on point with asking questions - like a close friend of mine - gets defensive when you ask direct questions.

I just want to comment about what you said regarding Real Estate in Cambodia vs. Australia. I think you are neglecting the fact that sometimes you would prefer less returns for more stability. I am not saying go for 1% or Australia is better than Cambodia, but sometimes countries might have more returns on real estate, CDs, etc.. but the uncertainty, unstability and the level of corruption present won't make you sleep the night! I believe that you souldn't put your eggs in one basket that's for sure, but I want to also bring up a point, is that sometimes we get tired and sick of the way we are living in our home country, focusing mainly on the negatives. You were a US a citizen and got tired from the high taxes etc and moved out. I am from a country with high returns on real estate, CDs but weak and unstable economy, high level of corruption and want to move out. I believe paying more taxes for stability where you will not experience corruption might be worth it for better peace of mind. Second passports is definitely an important part of your portfolio in today's unstable world. Last but not least, I am not talking about a specific country, every country has its advantages and disadvantages but you gotta live somewhere in the end. The most important part is having plan B and even plan C & D.

Noor Alfares Those are wise words, but don’t go to the US. It’s totally corrupt, but hidden well to outsiders and newcomers. Go to NZ, Oz, Canada or Western Europe instead. No place is perfect but the US sucks.

Amorphous Root I agree with you. I lived in the US for 4 years and decided it is not the best place to live either. Next destination is Canada.

Oh, man... That's so true... I have a C2 in four languages and I'd get people all the time saying things like: "teach me Russian" or "teach me Japanese". And at first I'd be like: "Sure, what do you want to know? ". To which I got: "I don't know, just teach me". It took me a lot of time and similar interactions (needless to say they gave up in a week or two) to understand that there was nothing I could do for these people. I guess... To each, their own.

This is extremely deep. Theres another question id like to ask... how do you change when your body seem to totally ignore what you say you want? Do you take incremental steps to change or what would be the bets method. I feel heavily programmed and I want to change but it is little hard to rip through this wiring. Would like to change that because its actually a little weirdly hard. I'm tired of this needless suffering and I feel out of control sometimes. Grateful for all of your help and everyone here watching to improve themselves. :)
