- Hundreds of friends and family members of Jeffrey "Smitty" Smith showed up at his funeral in their hot rods and muscle cars. The mourners stopped in front of his business, where he was murdered, on their way to the cemetery to do burnouts to honor Smith. Here is a link to the story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch bit.ly/xicVY8
this is how I want my funeral to be, along with a bonfire, kegs, bbq, and a party that takes 3 days to recover from. Celebrate life my friends.
1:15 his friend was like i would blow the motor for Jeff. That's how hot rod guys pay their respects
My favorite quote, "Its better to burn out than to fade away!"
Damn what a way to be celebrated! I am impressed.
How bout this one... “burn rubber. Not your soul”
'id blow the motor up for him' awsome sentiment!
Drew me to tears.
No better love than that of the people in the car enthusiast family. When cars are your life, when you dream about cars, constantly think about motors, transmissions, differentials, driveshafts, sparkplugs, intake manifolds, and you find someone who has the same common interest there is no better friendship. R.I.P "Smitty", I didn't know you, but I know you had a passion that runs deep in a lot of people.
The second guy interviewed is my uncle Don. (Donald Joe we called him growing up) I haven't see Uncle Don in 25 years or so. That is his Black Split bumper Camaro. BadAss Car!!! R.I.P. Smitty.
Your uncle's car is badass!
I know this didn't recently happen, but I want to pay my respect for this man. Sounds like a truly great individual. God Bless the family and him also.
watching this i actually teared up... we did this for a soldier friend after Afghanistan RIP Smitty
I'm from kentucky where folks are not just friends, their family. When a small town losses someone who's well known it isn't easy. All respects to Mr.smith and his family and friends. This was a very nice way to remember a nice man.

Amazing how cars can connect people and how it brings us together. No matter what "genre". Rest in peace my friend.
I could only hope to make as much of a difference as this guy did. Sounds like the kind of guy everyone wants to meet. R.I.P.
I'm terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I too have lost people who were dear to me through blood and friends. I clicked on the link to read the article and most of it was blanked out. Peace and serenity be with you all. God Bless.
You can tell he was a great guy, look at all the support that came to see him one last time
I don't know Smitty... but I can tell, he was a great man ! Respect for these guys doing burnouts to honor him. The guy said he'd even blow a motor for him. If that's not dedication... I don't know what is ....
This is how you remember someone. Forget standing over a grave crying, show him out with what he loved.
don't know how I came upon this video but I'm glad I did. You can see how much of a great person Mr.Smith "Smitty" was by the friends he had and how much respect they had for him.
RIP Smitty, must've been a very cool dude. Condolences to the family
This made me cry and I don't even know him... kinda wish I would have. What amazing friends.
This video is one of thousands and I came across it, no person should have their life taken. When you hear these people talk they loss a brother/father/mentor. What a shame..
The 12 people that disliked this have no soul. Another reason why I love this country, just unique things we do to remember the ones we have lost.
more people need to be respected like this..brings the best out of everyone...even the cars sounded tearful..listen to em cry
How do u get one of these tributes done
21 thumbs down? pathetic to see even 1...
this is the most amazing tribute for some one. my sister was murdered and not 20 days later there was a cruise i did a burnout with the attempt to blow the engine in my mustang her favorite car. the cops let me have at it for about 2 minutes straight then pulled me over and i got a 6 pt ticket. my condolences to you friend smitty may he forever rest in peace. i never knew of him but he will now forever be on my mind.
I lived right across from him to this day I still hear that gunshot and think of him day and night
Thanks for sharing, so sad loosing a good friend.
R.I.P., but as for that mustang mid-video, I LOVE IT!!!
Kingbooger94 thanks I just found the video I literally toasted the clutch an broke a valve spring that day doing burnouts for smitty
I did this for my boy Brandon when he died back in 01 at 19yrs old. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, but he knew what it meant. At least the cop didn't say a word to me.
That touched my heart when he said He'd blow his motor for Smithy...
Hats off to Smithy and his good friend.
RIP Smithy
I don't know you Smitty, but R.I.P. sir. Best wishes of comfort to the family and friends. Great tribute.
How could 19 people have disliked this video? What a shame.
One of the coolest videos on TH-cam.
My type of funeral!! This is a great tribute to anyone that loves cars. Smitty R.I.P from one car lover to another.
came across this video messing around on you tube. very sad to see the description list the guy as being murdered .so sad. but this funeral has to be the best ever! good way to show respect! i get the guy loved cars from this video an this was the very best way to show that! he must have been thrilled to look down upon this day from heaven.. i would have been. r.i.p.
how is that related to this video?
all my respect to this guy.
he had the world's greatest funeral. well, at least for me. i wish i could have the same kind of farewell...
It's not 'supposed' to be anything. Each person is allowed to grieve in their own way and in their own time, without ANYONE telling them how or when.
They are clearly grieving over his death and remembering/celebrating his life.
I didn't know the man personally but I bet he would have wanted it that way.
RIP Smitty.
Read to the bottom of the video summary, I included a link to the story about the circumstance surrounding his murder
What did the guy die from? Just hearing his friends say good things about say alot may he RIP
I know. there are a lot of bad people in this world. I just hope the family and friends got justice.
How did he die
I didn't know Smitty but I can tell that he was and still is one of the greats! Nice tribute guys!!!!!!!!
r i p smitty , gr8t way to pay ur respect of a loved one , friend , or family ....
a few days ago my dads high school friend passed away of cancer at 46. why him? why not any of the people who are injecting themselfs with drugs every dad and live to be healthy. so we got all of his friends together and did a cruise around town in out collector cars and his sisters husband did 2 burnouts in honor of him. We all knew he was looking down at us smiling and laughing at what we were doing for him, just like in this video. R.I.P
sounded like a good guy rip sir
He was
17 people will have minivans leaving their funerals with no burnouts.
the black car behind the truck was 1970 camaro SS. with a giant blower
how absolutetly fitting for the man you talk about. probably not another tribute on the planet on their last day like his.
thats awesome!! not many times you see folks get together and leave a memory like that!!
RIP from AZ.
weirdly enough this brings tears to my eyes rip to smitty and may his family find peace
Teared me up. Sounds like one heck of a guy and ended up with a heck of a funeral director and reputation.
RIP what a great way to have a funeral for a true car enthusiast. I would love for this at my funeral.
that black camaro with the blower does some wicked burnouts.
very cool friends!! RIP
RIP Smitty, I'm in the US military & I'll try to think of you this summer when I go back home & do the thing I love most- driving/racing my car.
Prayers sent for the family. I know it still hurts. Sounds like the justice system could have(and should have) locked this P.Smith up a long time ago, but didn't.
i teared up when he said that and thats rare for me
R.I.P. from Dayton OH.
Very cool. All one can hope for, is that when they go, people will remember them fondly.
RIP Smitty. What a beautiful way to pay respect. (From a gearhead's point of view!)
RIP from Vernon, BC Canada
This is why America is great, one big family, mad respect RIP
If a video has less than 30% dislikes dont even look twice at it. Acknowledging it just gives the idiots to much credit.
From one gearhead to another. RIP Smitty. Nothing like this ever happens to the people that deserve it, It's always the hard working honnest soul that gets screwed.
wow, this man was loved by many...
Who the fuck has such a major lack of heart that they thumbed this down?
R.i.p. from South Carolina

the proper way to send off a car guy, recently had to lay a fellow car lover to rest myself, we showed him the same respect.
R.I.P smitty
