Man that's awesome, I am really excited to see the results. I plan on doing the same thing when I find the time. BTW, @4:04 you mention you forgot to update your firmware? I'm just curious if you know about updating the firmware over the air? I had to drag a laptop up to the top of my tower until I found out you can do it from your phone on the ground.
I tried it in the beginning. It was really confusing which file to do and I found out some time later I had uploaded the firmware for the wrong node. I've tried a couple more times without much luck. If you can point me in the right direction I would be really grateful.
Waving a hand from York SC. There's really only one other guy I can contact via Meshtastic here, and that is not reliable yet. I get a kick out of tracking myself on walks. It can also tell you a lot about your coverage. If you don't know The UI for IOS will track GPS nodes and put down dashes on the map you can look at later. I really wish they would do the same for Android. Hmmm... but maybe you can with ATAK.
Let's do it. I thought it might have just been because of someone flying over, but this new one definitely seems to be able to see nodes out there without any help.
@@masondawson4061 I'll check back when it gets here. I think I ordered it Monday so it might be a while. I've got a VOX1 node on my list just like you, so I believe you're definitely picking up people from my area
@@rattlersix That's really cool. I made a tripod rig for the small Yagi I'll post about soon. There's this huge cliff not too far from here called Crowders Mountain I want to take it to. It's probably 400' above anything surrounding and faces West if I recall right.
@@rattlersix I didn't see it, but I haven't been looking in that direction since I think the day after I set it up. I'm going to point it towards Knoxville now and send a ping or two.
The title didn't give it away? "Meshtastic is a decentralized wireless off-grid mesh networking LoRa protocol. The main goal of the project is enabling low-power, long-range communication over unlicensed radio bands." Countercry of meshtastic.org. Come join the fun. It's really inexpensive to get started.
Oh! On the subject of 2nd node, I'm standardizing on the lilygo t3-s3 for mine (including solar nodes) since they're about half the price of the rak nodes and once you turn off the wifi and Bluetooth they don't use much power...
I'm going to see if a buddy in town wants to use the small Yagi. He's about 4 miles away and so far we haven't been able to connect. I'll add someone else on the mesh Sunday. He thought something was wrong with a V3 someone gave him so I had a look at it. Turned out to just be that he was trying to flash it with a charge only USB cable. Needless to say when he fires it up Sunday it will have a brand new name, hehehe.
Ruh Rho Raggy!!!! They have our coordinates! Zoinks!!!!!!
Yes I noticed that not a lot of people have updated the firmware on their nodes

I'm near Knoxville and I've got one of those short yagis on the way. Might be fun to see if we could pick each other up

In the meantime, the node I have that you might possibly see is called FUJI, it's just on a roof height pole

Ok I see it’s an antenna but what’s it for? Radio, cell phone, computer. You never explained what it’s for.

Big Yagi for Meshtastic
Haha maybe message some of those nodes you're seeing and see if they want to put up your old Yagi??
Or put up another node with it and point it in the different direction too??
