I've only just started this episode for the first time, but you saying this just gave me flashbacks to the time when me and my party took three sessions, ten hours each, to finish the final fight of the campaign
1:36:50 - Hey, Thurston, that's not how that ability works according to the tooltip. You still have to roll to hit twice, and you have to hit with BOTH for the effect to trigger, and what it gets you is only having to apply Weakness and Resistance once to the combined damage instead of to the two separate damage rolls. EDIT: Looking up the weapon used, your 'basically a crit' approach really screws over your target because the Fatal Damage ability triggers on a crit and drastically ups the weapon's damage. You rolled 2(2d8+3)+1d8 when what most likely should have been rolled was 2d4+3 (two normal damage for the weapon (assuming neither hits were crits) and the weakness to piercing damage bonus applied once. If one of the two hits had crit, the damage I believe would be (2*2d8)+1d4+3 (The crit shot getting the Fatal Damage bonus doubled, plus the normal damage of the second shot, plus the piercing damage bonus once).
Great catch! The shot dealt more damage on the one Paired Shot crit I had against Baldric, absolutely, but the weakness/resistance didn't really matter much in this combat since the PCs didn't have any of those triggering. Similarly, it probably helped the PCs more than hindered them in the later phases, because I had at least two rounds where I hit with none of the shots instead of making separate attacks. Besides Baldric, my recheck had most of the damage from the Burn Volley / Line Attacks, which were run normally. So overall, a silly mistake of me just pressing buttons to get attacks going instead of re-reading the ability one last time, but I'm certainly not infallible and GMs do make mistakes.
Can't help but laugh at the idea that the pet cage dimension is just the orb in rehuas chest and glubtalk is just chilling in there all death stranding style 🤣🤣🤣
A major storm was happening where I was at and I needed to hide in the laundry room for a while, and I thought "Since I am gonna be here a while, I am gonna relax and watch some Rotgrind, this one is 4 hours, perfect" and I will say this episode was the opposite of Relaxing, I am having an aneurysm
That was easily the most confusing intro I've ever dealt with. That confused me more than when Hulky and Earndil did the "I'm drawing a map" bit and I didn't get the joke.
@@benjaminburton8135 Sadly I don't remember the episode. I only remember it was after a break, and I'm reasonably sure it was somewhere close to or during the prison arc.
The only issue I have with the fight with Cardosa is that when using the dual shot ability, it says on it that you make two attacks at the same multi attack penalty, meaning either no penalty, -5, or -10. And if both attacks hit you do double damage. It does not say you get to automatically do double damage from landing 1 shot. Also they keep forgetting to clear status effects, such as Oran having wounded, and Vaali having stunned before she noticed and cleared it. So generally speaking the GM did incorrectly use her ability without realizing it. I know it's a nitpick but the only complaints I'd have about this campaign are nitpicks. As they really needed to not be forced double damage when that's not what the ability says. Also I know this isn't really on the GM, but they were drastically underprepared for the fight.
So I kinda wanted to keep my opinion out of this session, I getbits a dark souls/elden ring inspired campaign, but as a dm that boss fight was way too....mean. that and the hero/villain points counteracting eachother feels like it takes away from the cool stuff the players are supposed to do (thankfully yall are reworking them) but.....the biggest thing I can't understand is the whole "we are using our resources to destroy these healing pillars" and the only reward is that they stop healing the boss. Personally I would have thrown the players a bone, especially when the fight was that rough, but thats because I don't like killing off player characters, even in a campaign where they get resurrected. But again, this is all my opinion and shouldn't be taken without grains of salt
Yeah it would have been nice if destroying the pillars gave the character some health back. Add in a risk/reward with "You're almost dead and targeting the pillars will draw the boss's aggro but if you can break this you get healed."
I think this boss fight exemplifies one of the reasons I prefer 1e to 2e. In 1e you can punch far outside of your CR, but in 2e if you walk into a boss fight that's above your level by too much then you have to hope and pray to the dice gods that things come your way, especially if you're under-stocked on supplies. It's ALSO why while I understand it from a 'give more stakes' system to going down, making it easier to enter dying and making the Rot a negative feedback loop is going to make things increasingly hard
Yeah, the Crit system feels like it's more against the players than an equal thing, considering how high rolls can get with high CR enemies in Pathfinder.
They're playing a vaguely dark souls inspired world while trying to offset the power of hero points. They had also partially exhausted their resources and had a ton of bad rolls. In spite of all of that, they cleared the fight by a considerable margin.
You know having your players be kinda immortal might lead one to make fights intentionally to hard and frustrating I could hear everyone getting mad... Welp and she ded
