    Shah Rukh said, "The dancers were all tied down that's why it was very difficult. The train was slow, but many times, those overhead bridges use to come and there was no communication like how you have those speakers now. I remember Farah Khan and the rest of the crew carried a white cloth. Every time they put it up it meant stop the song and just bend down. It was very scary. Because even when you lie down it was like you could literally feel the bridge pass over you. That song was shot guerrilla style. The train would stop and suddenly start. It was very difficult to shoot the song. It was fun but not without its difficulties." Quite a dare-devil!

    This song is a cult classic and one of A.R.Rahman's finest compositions. A version of this song also features as the title music and in end credits in the Hollywood movie Inside Man. Santhosh Sivan, one of the finest cinematographers in India filmed this on Nilgiri Mountain railway in South India. He won the national award as well as the Filmfare awards in 1999 for this film. ARR's music as you can hear is outstanding due to the percussion, bass and flute orchestration being in line with the sounds of a moving train; simply awesome! They had to plan a lot and shoot the sequences in real time as the train was moving, so great work by the whole team.

    This song was filmed on the way of Ooty (short for Udhagamandalam), a hill station(town) of Tamil Nadu, India. One of the most beautiful tourist spots in India I've ever visited. As Indian Railways is very close to my heart n life (mostly for all Indians, don't be surprised), I can say that this song was filmed at Nilgiri Mountain Railway. That train is a toy train, nowadays it is called Nilgiri Express. Starts from Chennai(Mettupalayam) n ends in Ooty. The joyride n the side scenes are as spectacular as the town Ooty. Once in a lifetime experience. 😍😘😘
    The feel of this song n the actual journey on this train in real life are basically the same.

    • @ahas1972
      @ahas1972 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Chai is milk tea like it is made in India. Tea is made differently in different places. "Tea " is made without milk or even sugar (what you call black tea).. So when they call it Chai Tea, it means tea made the way Indians do. That is how it has been described and has been included in dictionaries now. So they are not calling it "tea tea" and Chai Tea is correct. We Indians tend to take literal translations of things and that is why we tend to make such small ignorant mistakes. I hope now you understand why it is called "Chai Tea". It is a type of preparation. Same as in China where the just call tea "Cha Shui" or literally translated to Tea. But here we call it Chinese tea. So the Chinese might ask us the same thing, like why we are calling it "Chinese Tea" instead of just Tea.

    The song is sung in Urdu. Hindi and Urdu are similar in everyday conversation but have many differences. Urdu is a very flowery, poetic language. Urdu is derived from Arabic and Farsi (from Iran) and is typically the language for Muslims in India and Pakistan. It’s evident this song is Urdu from some of the terms like “aayat” meaning Islamic verse and “qalma” meaning declaration of Islamic faith

Singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (O Re Piya) and Atif Aslam often sing Sufi songs in a style called qawwali. This train journey itself from Conoor to Ooty is one of the amazing train journies in India I have experienced (it's called Nilgiri Mountain railways and part of UNESCO heritage now). There are many articles where Sharukh and Malaika talks about the shooting of this video... essentially, it was a very slow moving train, most of the dancers were tied to the train and I think it took 4 and half days to film...there were few injuries too during the shoot ..so it was quite an adventure.

    Every toy mobile and all other toys with sounds had a part of this song back then when we were little... for years this was the "it" song and often made into daily conversations... It is so popular even today... No one can just sit on their seats when this song is playing. This is way more significant considering Indians "trains", atleast for some journeys because of the scenes that go by. So every time we are enjoying a train ride, this song is there...whether in our heads or we are just singing it....
