    This bird is now on my "to do" list. We have them here in MA and I just love watching them at my feeder.

      Thank you! I love hummingbirds so much. Last summer, I was letting my dog into the back yard and a hummingbird stopped and hovered right in front of me when I opened the back door. We just looked at each other briefly and it flew away. They are such a delight to see. Just like little bits of magic.

      Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. I use a 40 gauge twist or spiral needle to achieve a smooth surface. I tend to attach the wool with a 38 gauge star needle. Then, I go back over it with the 40 gauge twist to refine the surface. I hope this helps.

    I was wondering if you could put a 1 inch marker on the side, I don't have a printer and I could use that on my tablet.

    Just started my first piece of felting, and i chose your hummingbird, but when i added extra on the belly part in didnt blend well it looked like patch what and i doing wrong

      You might try pulling some of the wool off. I will sometimes put a thin layer down first, almost a transparent veil. And then I'll add another layer over that leaving the edges of the first layer to soften the transition between the two colors.
      You can also try leaving the edges of the belly color a little feathery instead of a sharp or straight edge. That would help soften the edge.
      Don't be discouraged as it takes a little practice. And the good thing is that you can remove some wool, place and felt a thin layer back over that spot, and no one will notice that you made a change. Wool is very forgiving.
      I hope this helps.

    I'm trying to make this. I have made the body but can't figure out how long should I keep the wire for the wings?

    • @the-needle-felter
      @the-needle-felter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! My wing wires were each 4 inches long.
      I apologize for not making that clear. I included it in my blog post but must not have said it clearly in the video. If you need any other steps as you're working, here's the link to the post: theneedlefelter.com/just-in-time-for-spring-hummingbird-video-tutorial-and-free-pdf-pattern/
      Again, I'm so sorry for not being clear. I hope this helps.

      Thank you so much! I have a lot more I want to add. :)
      The wooden handled needle holders with the brass band were hand turned by Mab Graves' father. Unfortunately, he passed away so they are no longer available. He made beautiful pieces and I treasure the three I have.

    This is beautiful but what is the size of the bird?

    • @the-needle-felter
      @the-needle-felter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Viewed from the side (tip of the beak to the outermost tip of the wings), the hummingbird is approximately 4 1/4 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches tall. If you're looking for just the body measurement, from the top of the head to the tip of the tail, it is 3 3/4 inches long. I hope this helps.

      The link for the PDF is: theneedlefelter.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Hummingbird-Pattern-The-Needle-Felter.pdf
      If you'd like step by step instructions, I also wrote them out in post for this tutorial on my blog: theneedlefelter.com/just-in-time-for-spring-hummingbird-video-tutorial-and-free-pdf-pattern/
      I've been putting the links in the video description but maybe I should put them in a comment pinned under the video? It seems like they are hard to find in the description as several people have asked. I'll try putting them in a comment going forward.
