I have been a fan of Celentano for several decades. He wrote this song as a sort of protest against a market that favored English songs more than Italian songs, so he proved that he could write a song with made-up nonsense words and be as successful as a song in real English.

Don't apologize because that's not italian, that's just nonsense words :) Celentano used to sing with random "Macaronic English" words all of his songs while testing the music, before making the lyrics. In that case, Celentano was pleased with the lyrics as it was, simply because it sounded cool

This performance was part of a program on the national television network Rai. The particularity of the piece is that it is sung in an invented language. For a long time, different theories have been born related to the words present in the text, with different reading options. There were those who considered him a macaronic Englishman and those who, in the end, underlined the singer-songwriter's choice to "rebel against conventions, even musical ones". Adriano Celentano, known as il Molleggiato, is one of the greatest and most famous Italian artists and has done everything: singer, presenter, actor.

I enjoyed seeing how you enjoyed it. I was I kid when this song was first launched in Italy - but still I could appreciate and enjoyed how different was from all the rest - it came out of the blue from nowhere - the repertoire of Celentano is wide but nothing compares to this song - as I've wrote elsewhere - I believe Celentano was captured by aliens and as he returned to earth he recorded this song.
The "lyrics" are just jibberish - kind of sounds like English from an Italian who's too lazy to learn English - as long as it sounded English to us Italian it was good...
The looping used is a precursor of sampling and the singing is basically rapping - it was 20 years ahead of his time - Celentano is a real understated genius.

This performance was from a TV show in 1972 on National broadcaster RAI😮 it was basically the dancing interval as you could guess from the outfits and the mooves of the dancers however Adriano Celentano's moves are totally his own he was famous for those and called "il molleggiato" i.e. the springy one.. very charismatic and eclectic extremely creative and ironic... with over 60 years of career as singer actor showman still releasing music even nowadays at 84... always aheah with new ideas sometimes not totally successfull but a "pioneer" nevertheless as you could see from the anime serie "Adrian"...

In the 70's there were few Italians who knew foreign languages so people who listened to English and American songs didn't understand the lyrics. So while they were humming these songs, not knowing the lyrics, they made them up based on what they understood, creating a sort of personal incomprehensible English language. Adriano Celentano put this into practice ... Genius !!! The woman who sings in the middle of the song and plays the harmonica at the end is his wife Claudia Mori.

I don't know about nowadays, but Adriano Celentano used to be fairly big in Germany too back in the day, 70s and 80s at least. This one I don't remember, but he had some major hits that were on the radio all the time. And we sang along the best we could, not understanding a word!
Btw, he also sang "Confessa" which Dimash covered in "The Singer" (tied in with The Diva Dance, which I thought you watched already, but guess not.) Just had to mention that! Sign me a Dear.

You need to show the black and white version video of this song, the choreography is amazing, and it has that energy of an after hours club in NY.
When his wife dances on stage, she has the best moves and that video in black and white is such a SLAY. I think it is hilarious that he sings in jibberish and I am surprised that anyone would be offended.
His choice of fake lyrics is irreverent and funny.
Just forget about this Technicolor video with those silly school girls, the whole combo of the school sets and the color really cheapen the energy of the song, the dancers, as well as the experience.
The BW video and ONLY video is in black and white, big sets, big stage, energy, amazing choreography which adds to the high high energy atmosphere.
All those mirrors and the direction and production were incredible and you feel like there are hundreds of dancers on stage going to ad infinitum. I really hope you give your audience the 7mns version of the original video.
I saw it on Tik tok and i was blown away and could not stop dancing and listening to that song, and it has a very tribal and enthralling energy which makes you want to get out of your seat and dance.
Disclaimer: I am also from Paris which might make me a little bit more biased:-), but, also maybe more appreciative at times.
Thanks to the host for introducing this great video to your audience
    Claude

Hi Bob...don't be too hard on yourself re. the pronounciation of the title...it's a made up word..in fact the whole song is gobbledygook! The point being, that the song highlights the way English sounds to a non- english speaking person. What the song wants to show, is that to communicate knowing the language shouldn't be a barrier.
And music proves that point bueatifully!
    Take care!

Hi Bob. The language is Krio. Here's some info on it:
Krio language - Sierra Leonean Creole or Krio is an English-based creole language that is lingua franca and de facto national language spoken throughout the West African nation of Sierra Leone. Krio is spoken by 96 percent of the country's population, and it unites the different ethnic groups in the country, especially in their trade and social interaction with each other.
Now, you would hope that the lyrics would give more meaning when translated into English, but I really dunno....LMAO Interesting language for sure. Here's the translation:

i dont know where you got that informtion but its wrong. the song is entirely gibberish and is meant to sound like english. Celentano noticed that songs in english were topping the italian charts and pushing home-grown italian sonds further down the list. he wrote this song as a kind of experiment to see whether italians knew what the neglish songs actually meant or if they were just listening to them to be 'hip and cool'
