      Hairspray is flammable. So wouldn’t that be a fire hazard and also against a city code violation? It becomes flammable?

      It can be tricky, but with practice you can get it to crackle really well

    This is a fabulous "breakthrough" for distressing wood furniture without having to spend a lot on the crackle medium and this works just as well. Thank you for an awesome tip and I can't wait to try it! .

    I crackled a picture frame along time ago using the crackle liquid. It turned out nice. I'm amazed you can age wood so fast using this process. The sign turned out awesome. Have a blessed day.

    What a great, daring imagination you have! If you had used the various paints, crackle solutions, misting bottle and special brush, I bet making that new piece of wood look old would have cost $50 minimum. Thank so much for this money saving technique. ❤️👏😘

    Omg this is going to be the perfect background for our marriage license! Wow! 21 years ago when we got married, I made copies of our marriage license and took one of them and aged it. And it came out just beautiful but I never did anything with it. Lol
    And in my husband’s top drawer it sits. And you just gave me the best idea for it! Thank You! I’ve literally been waiting 21 years for this!!! Lol

    Love this technique. I have used wood glue for the crackle look but last several years they've reformulated it so it doesn't crackle well now. I will definitely try this

    i am seeing so many try this and it's working. I watched this video many times, even watched while I was doing mine and it never worked. I did everything the same as you did. I used a aerolsol hairspray. I also tried with heat gun.

      It can be tricky. I find best results with a extra hold spray

    I followed the instructions exactly, black base coat let dry, accent coats let dry, hairspray let dry, acrylic house paint top coat, let dry - no cracks at all.... guess I will have to try again with craft store paint ONLY. Not giving up, but not there yet. Thanks for the info.

      Make sure you put a good thick coat of hairspray on it. Keep trying!!

      Paint over the hairspray wet. It cracks the paint from while drying. If it cured, it with just act like an adhesion promoter.

    I love it! Hairspray is genuis! Back in the day I used a store bought product, I believe it was "Crackle". And also found white glue mixed with water worked well.

    Wow. I was wondering what all those colors like the black, yellow and terracotta were going to do. After seeing the crackle effect and fading effect, I see it was to make it look like old wood exposed from the paint. What a great technique 👌

    Love this effect but will the crackled paint fall away?? can you put some kind of sealer over it, ? xxxx Dede xx

    Looks cool, and to make the wood look old I use a piece of chain to whip it with and the Cain will but small dents and it looks cool, bicycle lock would work also, another thing is to place your wood on the driveway with some bolts or anything under it and stand on it which will make some dents or stuffs in it ✌️
