I wish I had better camera work too!! I didn't realize I would have the opportunity to have a mini lesson in this dying art - just went to her house for dinner with family and found out that she had this amazing talent. Putting together the youtube video was kind of an after thought. I'll try to answer some of your questions here:
The larger yarn IS couched over on the fabric.
The openings are cut out after the sewing around each area as they are created.

That is incredibly amazing, especially on an old treadle machine. It's sad that I could not see the detail of what she was doing. I'd love to learn more about this technique.

+Betty Capps - Me, too! I wish I had taken more video footage. She was a little shy around the camera, and I couldn't really get in close to video the process. I hope some day I get to go back to Hungary to visit - and that she is still making this lace!!

I've been able to launder my table clothes & the blouse I was wearing in this video on a gentle cycle with cold water in the washing machine! Depending on the thread that was used in the embroidery, sometimes the colors are safe & sometimes (usually the red) will run. However, there is a product out there by Shout that looks like a dryer sheet - but you put it in your washing machine. It's called Shout Color Catcher. If some of your colors "run", then the color catcher will take care of it.

What a wonderful job, I love it. This truly is a work of art. I have a few of these types of linens, and never again will I look at them the same way as before. I have always wondered how it was done, now I know and this is something I would love to learn how to do. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and upload to you tube.

Could do without the music because I rather hear the lady talk on what she's doing. And it is beautiful.

Thanks for watching! I posted this for some English speaking friends, that's why I wrote some translations and added music. The lady (Erzsi) is speaking in Hungarian. So most of what she has said, I have translated for you. ;)

    Precioso trabajo, felicitaciones!!
Me estoy iniciando en esta hermosa técnica y he quedado sorprendida al ver que puede hacer motivos que parece ser hecho a crochet, terminados son como irish crochet...
    Thanks for sharing!

    More answers:
She sews straight across the empty space inside a circle and then doubles back zig-zagging over that stabilizing line. Then she follows the circle around to the next spot that she wants to cross at and does it again. When she has several web-like lines crossing the empty circle, she sometimes will go into the center and start "spiraling" around connecting them all and creating a sort of "island".
I hope I get the chance to go back again & get a better video for everyone!

It is a beautiful art . Do you use a filler thread to raise the embroidery?Ir yes what kind? I just visited Hungary with Vantage river cruse and saw some beautiful work. Be blessed and carry on .

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  8 ปีที่แล้ว

She did not use any filler thread while doing this lace demonstration. I do the embroidery - but not the lace - and do not use any filler thread while doing the embroidery, either.

Too bad we don't have better camera work... would have loved to see more detail of exactly what she is doing. Is the larger yarn couched over on the fabric? How are the openings cut out - before or after the sewing? Does she sew a stabilizing line, and then the satin stitching? More captioning would be very, very helpful... That crayon thing?! Great information, but the delivery needs work! Thanks for showing... hope you can make it clearer!

+Sadira Salam , I wish I could. I'm just not that coordinated! LOL I took this video while on a trip to Hungary. The seamstress in this video is my brother-in-law's cousin. Unless I make another trip, I may never have the opportunity to see her doing this craft again.

+alibabafurball Sorry about that! I was thinking that not too many people viewing this would understand Hungarian. Originally posted it so my family could see the process - and they do not speak Hungarian.

Ah that explains why the music is loud. Good video to show how it is done. When you can hear the treadle going it helps with the rhythm to get to learn. I got the rhythm after a bit of time working on timing to move to the needle. Thank you for sharing this with everyone and I hope some of your family follows in her footsteps.
