    A man after my heart. Back in 1971, I binged on '59s. Had a sport sedan, a convertible, an el Camino and a Brookwood 2 door wagon. Brookwood had a 5, Convertible had a 348, tri-power and 3.41 positraction, el Camino had a 348 4V, three-on-the-tree, sport sedan had a 283/glide and a/c! Had them all at the same time, dor a few months, then sold and traded for others. Wish I had them all back - especially the el Camino.

      Oh man I bet you do! That was quite a stable. The 59s have always been my favorite. I've always wanted a ragtop 59 but they're out of sight now! I'm just glad for the two 59s I have, now just need to get them fixed up!

    Beware of the nylon timing gears in those old small blocks , they will jump time and shred fouling the oil pump pickup screen !

    • @rustyredemptions
      @rustyredemptions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah yes, I remember those puppies. Did they have those gears back that far? Anyway, this engine will be rebuilt or probably replaced with a fresh 327 I have on a stand. I was surprised it even runs as well as it does!

    Lots of work in rust repair hope the old x frame aint toast. Those 283s are great engines.

      @rustyredemptions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is. Thankfully the X frame looks fine. Yes I love the 283's also, they're simple, dependable and you can do a lot with them.

    Brings back great memories. My dad drove one of these for several years. It was black it was a Parkwood but it had a 235 inline 6 with three speed on a tree. They're very shift unit was hey rod and a hammer to get unstuck under the hood! He had a oil smoker attached to it. I'm not sure why but it seems like there's a stretch of trouble from A to b . Ran across a mailman you just had to have the car and took him 8 months to talk me into selling him the car. He had all these great plans and I thought he'd do something with it but I don't think he ever did. After all he had really nice 59 hardtop Chevy but I was riding that car when I was just a little kid. I think he got that one after his 57 two door wagon. They were old old cars then! The 59 had the gray interior but it was absence a couple of things all the animal crap that you have in yours. I couldn't stay in there because it didn't have any floorboards. Anyway we took some stuff out and man is supposed to give us the rest of stuff back but he never did. I remember taking a 1976 bicentennial license plates off the glove box store along with the renewal license plate paperwork. My dad had gotten those plates the door on the glove box never did shut right and he just set those plates on the door with it open. The top one was a little Sun faded the bottom one just as perfect as can be. We kept that but the gallon of antifreeze I gave it to the man that bought the car he was from the '80s at most probably more like the late seventies. Never been opened. So you see when I said this car brings back memories is surely does. A lot of people called it the blackhurst. Unlike your paint where it's fade out and showing white this car was still black with its original color and original rust. I remember I thought I was going to choke to death going down those Rusty Dusty roads. I call him Rusty Dusty because it does to come up through the open spots in the floorboards. I really sure my Dad could have bought a nicer car or a truck but he preferred these old wagons. So when you get to a point in life you can drive with you prefer whatever it might be congratulations. Thanks for making the video

      Thanks for the comment, and glad I could spark some good memories. This one is a long way from nice, and I probably will never get it there, but I'm having fun with it like I do all my old cars. I think it was originally white and someone painted it black with rattle cans and now it's coming off. The back window was out, I just picked up some glass for it but it's so rusty after being open for 50 years I'm having to hunt down some window tracks and such. Hopefully soon I can get her moving-and stopping- on her own. Stay tuned!

      @@rustyredemptions I think I may set it before but if I didn't Ryan over at Iowa classic cars his TH-cam channel he's just nuts over 1959 Chevys if 59 and 60 are the same for the parts you need for the window channels etc outside St Louis Missouri a little bit I found a pair of 1960s for sale $800 for basically a roller four-door 60 and $1,800 for a station wagon four-door 1960. I took down their phone number. We can find some private way and not post a man's phone number for everybody and you can I'll give you and call your self. Also the guy by name a Joe out in Kansas and he's friends with Mr Good pliers business associates. He has a 450 car classic junkyard.. I was out there buying some stuff from him and I did not get to go through the junk yard as much as I like but seems like there are some 59 and 60 Chevys. Definitely four doors. Just help me out with some information. Rusty the 59 wagon that I sold at been in our family for around 50 years. I kid you not if he jacked it up on the bumper the body would come up off the frame. I don't know why that was but it did. The bumper bracket should been bolted to the frame anyway. So yeah they get rusty. The four door I have isn't rusty and I'd be glad to talk with you about that. But I just want to supply you with some possible leads for parts for your car. Thank you for the reply and I really didn't enjoy your simplistic approach. Besides just go out and pick up some old freezers whatever and cut out the metal and welded in on the floorboard to what have you. We done that years ago. $1,000 pan for your car probably be not in the cards

      @@CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525 You're right, I'll probably grab some old washers for sheet metal for the floors, not gonna lie, she's gonna be more of a survivor than a restoration. A youtuber I follow, Dylan McCool, calls them 'roadstorations'. I have a sticker lol. Not looking for any more cars at the moment but thanks for the leads on parts.

      @@rustyredemptions oh you're very much welcome. Besides you can never find one until you have one. And then you get all kinds of leads in comparison. Well regardless what the other fellow calls them. It's painted on both sides porcelain in many cases. And you can just pop it in self-tapping screws. Do some welding if you like. Some people going to laugh make comments but back when I was a kid I took this car I'm Dakota roofing car and on the floorboards too after patching it with sides of freezer panels. I had driver's ed coach that made fun of that. Then his own kids said Dad I wasn't even painting Hot Wheels when I was 10. Oh I still got that old Nova Chevy two. Folks are good enough to keep it for me stuck away in the back of the barn. I learned many things mostly what not to do. But it is kind of fun making a Frankenstein. As viewed from the bottom side. I'll be interested to see what you do with your car both of them. I think you're perfect custom bumper sticker for a 59 Chevy is to the batmobile Robin!

    Those cars were never really set up to succeed . The chassis and under floors structures back then got the bare minimum primer , interior fabrics of the day couldn’t handle wear and tear of family life for to long and the harsh sunshine broke down the fabrics to near threads . However the body styles and simplicity of mechanicals for me personally must have been an incredible time in American automotive production . I just love these old cars from the 50s and 60s and wish I was around in those times .

    • @rustyredemptions
      @rustyredemptions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Me too! We have come a long way in making them last longer, but I look at those cars as progression over the older models to what we have today as far as longevity and dependability goes. But definitely body styles and simplicity I find much more appealing compared to today.

    Looks like you got a 283 with a Rochester carburetor, I have the same engine on my 64 Chevelle SS. Nice wagon that will be a nice project, I would just get it running good, do floors and upholstery and you got a classic of the 50s.
