Well, as opposed to the British press and the British fans, deep inside Hill is aware that Adelaide '94 was mostly his own fault. Schumacher was clearly ahead going into the corner, so he was in the right taking the ideal line and Hill knew he should've stepped on the brake - particularly since Hill was convinced that Schumacher had damaged his suspension in the previous corner, meaning he could could have overtaken Schumacher anywhere, even on the next straight, if he was right about the suspension (but that we'll never know)

Hill was so underrated, yes he had the best car for 3 of his 4 seasons in f1 and was totally outclassed by Schumacher in 94 and 95, but he came to f1 really really late, schumacher was best part of a decade younger than hill when they were racing for the first time in 92. Also hill won races in 93, 94, 95, 96 and a flukey one in 98 (nearly winning in 97 with an absolute shed). He won the championship in his 4th full season...dont think hakkinen, raikkonnen, button or even mansell achieved that. Plus he was forced into a team leader role when senna died and had to carry on as normal. He wasnt even remotely as gifted as Schumacher, hamilton, senna, alonso etc but he deserves that world championship.
Damon is a brilliant driver! He never had the chances of all these drivers that you mentioned and despite that he was a top notch since his first real F1 season in 1993, at age of 33(!). He defeated Schumacher that season and only his bad luck stopped him to the title - engine and other car problems took away from him 3 victories - at the end of this season he would be in front of Senna and probably few point ahead or below Prost. For me in 1994 Damon is the champion! If we apply the present rules of F1 Schumacher would be punished immediately for what he did to Damon back then. And in 1994 and 1995 Beneton was THE BEST CAR. Williams struggled a lot after the ban of their active suspension. If Senna knew it would be banned in 1994, he would never sign with Williams. Senna didn't manage it and died because of the car's problems, Hill did it. Absolutely the best driver in the world in Suzuka and Australia 1994. He put so much pressure on Schumacher and the German hit the wall and then torpedoed Hill in an absolutely forbidden and nasty way. I still do not believe they did not punish him then and did not give Hill's title. Damon is simply one of the best drivers and champions in F1 history!
I would have been the first to underrate him as a child but that drive in Hungary with the Arrows to me confirmed he was world champion material. You're always sort of blinded by the "best car" argument when they're in the title winning car but to see what he did with that Arrows, that's legend-in-the-making material really.

For me it would have been fascinating to see how it would have panned out in 97 with Hill still at Williams up against Villeneuve again and Schumacher in a now competitive Ferrari, who knows it might have been down to the wire with the 3 of them rather than just 2!
In 1994 Schumacher had a much better car. The Williams was a deathtrap. Damon was not as good in 1995. I am really sorry for Michael’s current situation and all but the truth is Micheal stole a WDC from hill. Williams deserved to win the WDC after Sena’s demise.
while I agree with the accident in 1997. I really don't think that Schumacher hit Hill on purpose in 1994. I watched it a lot and you can see that MSC was infront of Hill and the turned it, while Hill just dived in Schumacher causing a crash. Hill probably should just stayed calm and overtake him in the next corner safely. But I agree that Schumacher had that killer instinct
@@derChef98 It wasn't Damon's fault either: he said that if he'd known that Schumacher had hit the wall, he would have waited until he either pulled off to the side or into the pits - his car was terminally damaged anyway. But because Damon was dealing with a backmarker, he didn't see it - and therefore, with all the adrenalin running through the body, he assumed, as anybody else probably would in his shoes, that this moment could be his only chance to get the championship. But that aside, despite the Benetton cheating allegations (which they, Benetton, should probably should probably have been disqualified for the illegal fuel rig usage), I'd argue that was Schumi's title anyway - he was unfairly given a penalty here in the UK, which then morphed into a ridiculous 2 race ban. Argue over whether his drive-through/stop-go penalty was fair all you want but that is ridiculous.
Nah he didn't rob Hill at all, that entire season was bullshit. Schumacher would have won it comfortably if not for the FIA ridiculously disqualifying Schumi after winning in Belgium and being runner up in Silverstone, banning him from competing in a couple (Monza and Estoril) for the floorboard underneath the car being 3mm too thin (seriously) which gave Damon a free 20 point markup in the points. The fact the FIA tried to stretch that season out in the way they did so Hill had a chance going into Adelaide should never have happened, that title deservedly went to Schumacher in the end. He was the best driver, he won the most races, and all in an inferior car (that Williams was excellent, better developed than the Benetton was). Should Schumi have driven into Hill in the way he did? No, I don't think he should have. Do I understand why he did? Yeah, absolutely. Put yourself in Schumacher's position, it's not so farfetched. The FIA clearly agreed with you that Williams 'deserved' to win the WDC after Senna died, but that's morally incorrect and not sporting at all. Even Schumacher after he won the title in Adelaide said Senna deserved to be champion and would have had he not tragically died.
@@cribbe6547 There's an interesting book coming out this month (I think) which covers the 1994 season which actually had eyewitness accounts from both Williams and Benetton mechanics, more info here if you're interested (www.1994f1.com/). But one thing... "for the floorboard underneath the car being 3mm too thin (seriously)" Uh, no. His disqualification was because of the wear on the skid block, which would indicate in that instance the car was riding too low, giving the car an aero advantage. In Michael's defence, Benetton claimed that it was because he spun earlier on, but this was rejected because of the pattern of the wear. Funnily enough, Benetton never got penalised for the illegal fuel rig, to the best of my memory...
Nothing but respect for Damon. He took over the leadership role after Ayrton passed away after Imola, that moment in time must have had such huge ramifications on his mind. Thrust into that leadership role on top of that, THEN taking the fight straight to Michael's door? Formula one drivers deserve respect just stepping into a f1 car and firing up the engine. To step into one, take over the leadership role with the memories of your father doing the exact same thing over 20 years before, and not just stepping up, but winning? Tell me what other drivers deserves that level of respect?
I can never say I've been a fan of Michael, but I have unbelievable respect for the raw skill he had and just how amazing his drives were (of course I have to find recordings of old races) a shame really that some of his moments were questionable then. However, undeniably the greatest in the F1 HoF For now 😏

ZX R-CADE Well, he did beat him once, and would have beaten him twice just as hakkinen did, if it hadn’t been for that moment in Adelaide when Schumacher obviously cheated. But yes, Schumacher had more championships, that’s undeniable.
In 1995, aged 10, I was at Silverstone with my dad. He was at the bar with his Naval colleagues (back when the Navy had a big presence at the GP) and I was sent off to the drivers car park to collect autographs. Towards the end of the Saturday I was told by a car park attendant that if I waited by a certain gate, Damon would be along shortly. About an hour later he arrived in his golf buggy, he gave me his autograph and we had a brief chat, I was super nervous but Damon was lovely and I wished him luck got the race. He got into his Renault Laguna and waved goodbye to me as he drove off, it made my weekend. It was a shame that he slammed into the side of Schumi the next day and wiped them both out! Maybe I jinxed him.

"for the floorboard underneath the car being 3mm too thin (seriously)"
Uh, no.
Thanks michael !!
Schumacher and Alonso in ferrari.... ahhhh the dream team.
well it gonna be disaster for the team since non of them step down for the other, the result would be like Redbull early 2018 season.
Yea Schumi would most likely turn Alonso into a sheep
tubehows4life or Bottas

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAEL🎉🎉🎉🎉🎁🎉🎊🎊🎁
Damon was a great guy
I can never say I've been a fan of Michael, but I have unbelievable respect for the raw skill he had and just how amazing his drives were (of course I have to find recordings of old races) a shame really that some of his moments were questionable then.
However, undeniably the greatest in the F1 HoF
For now 😏
He’s a lot like f1s dale earnhardt. They both were so good that they needed to find someway to entertain themselves and they both hit people just for fun.
One of the most underrated Formula 1 drivers.
I really hope we all see someday really great news - Schumi get well and be released from hospital. #keepfightingmichael and happy birthday
Still remember setting my alarm, getting up to watch Adelaide 1994, and the crushing disappointment when Hill was taken out.
Damon looks sharp!
I hated the races of Hill against Schumacher as a child. I watch with high respect to that now I am 25 years older. Nowadays, these races and racers are missing.
Damon hill was probably Schumachers biggest rival until hakkinen came along but still Damon couldn’t ever beat him Micheal is the king of f1
ZX R-CADE Well, he did beat him once, and would have beaten him twice just as hakkinen did, if it hadn’t been for that moment in Adelaide when Schumacher obviously cheated. But yes, Schumacher had more championships, that’s undeniable.
Hill was never on Schumacher's level, but I think he knows that. What Hill always did have was genuine sportsmanship and decency.
yes and what a sportsman. i think he would never cheat or be unfair just because others are better, quite oposite to schumacher.
To drive like that in the rain in tricky 1994 deathtrap...have to disagree even if his career is well short of Michaels.
@@mofi3641 Senna did the same thing.
What a gent... A great chap
He is an great Schumi rival he is the son of an F1 Champ & win like his father the famous Adelaide inccident make him an truely fighter
My favourite driver!!👍🙂
It's a shame at what happened to Schumacher. It would be nice to have him in the comment booth during races.
The music bed works for race footage, but under interview it's too much.
He was and is the "MASTER"
2:38 What did he say??
I can't understand it
"He looked a little sheepish." It means he looked embarassed/shameful because he knew he'd done wrong.
@@funkymish thanks !!!
Do this type of videos on ayrton senna aswell please
Love his podcast..
Damon is a great person
Montoya was/is an underrated rival imo
