I think people worried about the volatility of DDB are missing the point. After playing thousands of hands of JoB I believe chasing the lone royal flush bonus is like chasing a phantom. You can go a lifetime without seeing a royal flush and without it you are sunk in JoB. The 99.54 return is based on the idea that you can cash in on the 4000 coin bonus. With DDB, you still have the royal flush dream, but you also have much more attainable 4 of a kind bonuses. You will hit 4 oaks many times in your life playing DDB. You may never hit a royal. Yes, DDB is much more up and down and you need a bigger bankroll, but it is better than grinding JoB hoping for a miracle.
Nicholas Briglia I've gotten 0 Royal Flush. 1 or 2 straight flush. About half a dozen four of a kind. I'm a casual 34 year old player. I tend to play just a quarter or fifty cents a hand most of the time. Most I ever won was 75 dollars.
I guess I have to consider myself extremely lucky then because I've hit a Royal Flush TWICE while having probably played only about 20 hours of video poker for money in my life, maybe 7 or 8 of which were in Vegas the one time I went there. And to my amazement, I also once got a straight flush playing Jacks or Better.
+Nicholas Briglia I understand and appreciate what you're saying, my only question for those who play DDB is, overall are they up or down? I mean the paytable presented here only has a payback of 98.98% with optimal play, which is well below that of FP JoB, not to mention significantly under 100%. So yeah, they may hit the 4 of a kind bonuses, but does that really make up for all they lose in the meantime before they hit said bonuses, given the volatility of the game? And by the way, according to the analysis I'm looking at, the player only has about a 2.5x better chance of hitting the four aces + 2-4 than they do the Royal Flush, so instead of once in 40,000 hands, it's once in 16,000 hands, which to me is still not particularly good odds.
Totally agree I don't play a ton but i've hit 4 of a kind most of the time I play and i'm happy to win a few hundred and walk away. I've hit a royal once but have also hit 4 aces twice that paid out about a grand each time i got them.
Mike, the Seminole Indian Casinos (roughly 6 of them in total)in South Forida only have Jack's or Better 7 5, not 8 5, but 7 5. The 9 6 pay table can be found only in the hi-limit room, min bet $5. I'm a avid Dragon Link ad other volatile slots player, jut now learning Video Poker, I only know Jack's or Better currently, at the beginner level. Any advice? Play the 7 5? Just stick to the expensive 9 6?
For the 9/6 pay table, is it a $5 denomination? Or is it a $1 denomination with a max bet of $5? Also which denomination do you usually play/are comfortable with? Depending on your response to those questions, I can give you a more accurate suggestion.
Hi Mike. How do you feel about the strategy Rob Singer forgoing going for straights or 3 to a straight flash in favor of going with the lone Ace ? Because of the high payout
I have been struggling to improve my game with these types of videos. I currently have spent around two hours watching these videos. It has resulted in me playing the occasional hand differently. Though more complex hands I still don't know how to play. I recently played five dollars on a machine at 25 cents a hit after watching these videos. I got three flush and still walked away without my pot ever rising back to 5 dollars.
If you are serious and want to become a better player, I highly recommend you read some books, or at least articles online, that is really study and learn systematically, not from watching YT videos(these may be good for entertainment, and for people who already know the basic rules/strategies and have some specific questions) and get some good software to practice and train on. Quite frankly, I don't know why anybody who is going to wager money wouldn't do such a thing. Well, I guess some people are happy to gamble and probably throw their money away. But not me, I want to know what I'm doing before I bet money on something. No offense, I'm not saying YOU specifically, individually, but just people in general, I cannot understand how people would bet on a game thinking they're going to win when they don't know what moves to make. I mean, would someone, a novice player, walk up to a chess champion, challenge them to a match, and think they were actually going to win? No... Then why would someone walk into a casino and think they're going to take their money without first learning how to play at a very high level; how can they believe they are going to beat the casino at their own game, one which is completely rigged in their own favor?
mydogskips2 any books or articles you can recommend about learning to make money not in gambling specifically but you seem smart about tthe way you portray yourself. Any help would be greatly appreciated
club mike what is the ev for when you have 2 pair just holding a pair vs the 2 pair cause your best case is a full house holding the 2 pair and if you just hold a pair especially if you have jacks or better you can make 4 of a kind albeit rare but it has to be pretty close
Hey Krowman84, That is true; there is a large number of games to cater to each unique player. Personally, I don’t think one variant is better than another. When I visit a casino, I will usually try to play the game that has the highest payback percentage. Since the game with the highest return is different for each casino, I practice playing multiple variants in preparation. Variance/volatility is a reason why some players choose one game over another. In many casinos, the game with the highest return is standard Jacks or Better, but plenty of players find it boring. DDB is very popular, but can wipe your bankroll quickly if you don’t hit a 4 of a kind. Deuces Wild is one of my favorites. Relatively low volatility and the possibility of 1000 coins for 4 deuces. Appreciate the question!
I don't know what you are playing on ,it looks like a PC?? I usually play this game , DDB poker at the casino, and I usually hit a few quads at every session.
While I'm watching your play...makes me little confusing, about those ace and two high carts...there's some your play you just holding the ace, and some you holding those high carts with the ace? Pls need help with that....thanks
In DDB, if dealt an Ace and 2 other high cards of different suits, usually hold the ace, unless the other two high cards are queen and jack. Example: AQJ85 - hold QJ Example: AKJ85 - hold A I hold high cards with the ace if they are the same suit (two cards to a royal flush). Example: As Qs Jh 8c 5d - hold the ace and queen of spades. Hope this helps.
I've actually had a royal dealt to me , I couldn't believe it. I've had about 5 or 6 while holding a few cards. It's definitely possible, just gotta play...
I know Poker is better mathematically but the returns from a slot machine can be huge if you hit a bonus or progressive. Poker takes forever and the returns are terrible.
LouisCyphre yeah but that's why I like super times pay or ultimate x.. But the issue is I want to play the right hold every single time and it's hard even if you practice there's always hard decisions. But the issue with slots is that slots is literally how casinos get rich. Think of penny slots. There payback is only 85 percent
I believe you are referring to 19:45. Yes, a flush has a higher value than 4 to an open ended straight flush. If I had played it incorrectly, you would see an error message pop up, which has happened in prior hands in the video.
There is no reason to hold a "single" Jack in this game. When you are dealt 3 Aces and that jack..you will wonder did I miss the 4th Ace by holding a random Picture that even with 4 of a kind only pays 250 vs 800 or 2000. Yo uwould hold it in "bonus" poker since 4 Aces is only 800 MAX and there are no kicker payouts.
That is NOT what i said. I meant if you hold a single Jack.and get 3 Aces in the draw while holding that Jack..you will wonder if you missed drawing the 4th Ace.
Ok. I replayed the video and I could not find where I get 3 aces on the draw while holding a jack. Regardless, holding a single jack is still a better play than discarding all 5 cards. This is true in any standard video poker game that does not have wild cards, assuming a minimum of a pair of jacks to win anything.
ClubMikeV For the third time. you do not understand what i wrote. I will go through this One step at a time---You are dealt a hand. You hold only 1 card..a JACK. You then hit the draw button. MY point was should you draw 3 Aces with that signle jack held it is a mistake..you might miss the 4th Ace. Nowhere did I state you draw to a hand of 3 Aces and a Jack. I NEVER said such.
I did understand the second time you mentioned it and explained in my reply that you are wrong. Holding one jack is not a mistake. It is the correct hold assuming there are no better options. For example, on 24:08, I was dealt a 10, 3, 8, 7, and jack - all mixed suits. Using a strategy calculator, the best play is to hold the single jack with an expected return of 0.43 coins. After that it does not matter what 4 replacement cards appear after I draw. Discarding the jack (as you suggest) and replacing all 5 cards has a lower expected return of 0.31 coins. Fear of missing the 4th ace is no reason to deviate from optimal strategy. Therefore, your earlier statement of "There is no reason to hold a 'single' jack in this game" is false.
Hey Gil, A video on Joker Poker is in the works! Recently, I have been remaking my tutorials in a series titled "Video Poker Genius." The first 3 parts are uploaded (Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, and Double Bonus). Joker Poker is scheduled for Part 6.
Ohh nice! I'm lookin forward to that and thanks to applying some of your strategies I just got my first big Poker win last night on a Dollar Poker Machine, I hit a Royal Flush with Deuces on Deuces wild! I cashed out at 150 bucks, If it had been without the deuces I woulda hit 4 Grand but its a good start
SINCE WHEN DO YOU KEEP 9 JQK? OR J 10? PRETTY AWFUL INSTRUCTION....YOU SAVED FACE CARDS AND IGNORED PAIRS, ETC, ETC.....I SUGGEST READING A BOOK OR TWO ON VP.
Jody Warren it absolutely does work, the math is there but the return overall is still only 98.8 percent you still have to get lucky to get up but its some of the best odds there are

I have had success with double double bonus poker mainly for the aces. Made quad aces twice in 4 days lucky but it beats slots and table games.
Who makes the software you're using? I'm using an app and don't think it has hand analysis. Thanks.

you can't beat any machine so learn table poker like Texas holdem😂
Hi Mike. How do you feel about the strategy Rob Singer forgoing going for straights or 3 to a straight flash in favor of going with the lone Ace ? Because of the high payout
Wouldnt you hold the 3, 2 and 4 as well as holding your A??
Anybody can give a tip on how to chose the better card when doubling? I like to double my winnings up to 4 or 5 times at least.

You do hold inside straights in jacks or better and double double bonus provided there are no high cards.
I don't know what you are playing on ,it looks like a PC?? I usually play this game , DDB poker at the casino, and I usually hit a few quads at every session.
michael chilner how are you winning so many quads and royals?
So you don't adjust your bets?
Is this a website that’s free or a paid for software?

ClubMikeV thank you very helpful....hope we will follow you on your upcoming videos
So ace with two high cards with different suit? Hold just the ace?
My casino has 9/6 but it pays 5000 for a royal.
Nicholas Briglia that's freaking awesome
what website do you play on?
Also you weren't supposed to hold the full house Aces
Very helpful
I hold A-10 suited in DDB
I don't care. If I have a low pair or an Ace. I'm keeping the Ace.
What game is this? and is it just a virtual money or real?
Hugh Mungu
of course he playing it on the computer
never in life have i gotten a royal flush im starting to think its impossible
EL Donjuan it's not I've seen it
I've actually had a royal dealt to me , I couldn't believe it. I've had about 5 or 6 while holding a few cards. It's definitely possible, just gotta play...

Lemme guess... you did NOT get that fourth four

@@ClubMikeV Thanks, what would the difference in the EV have been? Must be close?
Not close at all. 4 to a straight flush EV is 17.34 compared to 30 for a pat flush.
You blew past your inside straight example, and actually drew the needed 6 as the first card on the draw...........
Put on my strawberries sunglasses.
im seeing too much deviation
