Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Leave Everything Out On Purpose

- Harley-Davidson motorcycles stock leave a lot to the imagination and this is by design, you buy a new bike and then you buy a pile of parts to make it yours. Harley-Davidson motorcycles are already expensive as they sit brand new, Harley-Davidson also offers a pile of expensive parts if you want more. Harley-Davidson knows the average buyer is going to want more from their Harley-Davidson Motorcycle so how convenient is it that Harley offers a full line of performance parts and accessories? Harley-Davidson isn't going to put the goods in the factory bikes, just simply because everyone makes more money selling them after the sale!

What engine parts from the Harley Performance catalog do you think Harley-Davidsons should come with from the factory?
Stage 1 for sure. To make it breathe a little better and run a little cooler should be stock. Money grab for sure!
@@rodzimmerman1979I’m pretty sure that has to do with Fuel economy and EPA regulations, not necessarily a money grab
Free dyno tune!
A crankshaft that can take the stress running hard requires.

The 114 and 117 put out more power than stage 1 or 2 Harleys 15 years ago. Maybe even beat old Stage 3?
Harleys used to be dog slow before getting tuned. Now, upgrading the bikes is still fun and more power is always cool but if you leave a M8 motor stock or only change the pipes, it’s still a great bike. It would be nice if Harley upgraded the suspension as much as they improved the engine….
In Australia, the dealer, at times, will unpack a brand new harley and then add their own mods onto the harley and sell it with the added cost, making them a few more dollars.
The biggest concern IMO is when harley stop making parts and becomes obsolete
Bought my 2010 RG from original owner 8 years ago and he had already done the stage 1 and new V&H exhaust. Still riding it and did SS cams and oil pump last year.
Love your videos. I have had Harleys for 14 years from all families but V-Rod and my latest "modern" Harley was a 2nd hand 2015 103 Low Rider. Hoped to have bought a HO engine but no one could get the right info at the dealer and in fact it was a basic 103 I purchased. Honestly, even after having it re-maped the 96 I had for 8 years was smoother and more peasant to ride. Last year someone wanted to purchase it and offered me a more than fair price and so I let it go. Currently I did what most traditional Harley riders are doing and bought a fresh as it can be, Harley Softail EVO, and keep it as an week-end toy, daily riding a different brand of bike. That's what most of ex-Harley hardcore enthusiasts are doing but this means we are not planning to buy a brand new Harley again.
Never understood why someone would spend 30k on a weekend toy, if I'm paying that much for a bike I'm dailying it
Love my 90th FXRs and 100th Sporty, but you are spot on.
That warrior looked awesome.
The audio in your presentations has improved - I no longer have to strain to hear. Thanks for that, and congratulations on the growth of your channel.
Have owned Harleys for over 25 years now...always been happy with the bikes straight out of the box...more than adequate torque, set of floating rotors improves the stopping power and a pipe upgrade is just about it... then give me the open road with a smile from ear to ear...😊
I've been building, riding, and wrenching on Harleys for 40yrs, and I've always been a proponent of buy it, leave it like it is, and just ride it.
Most of the bikes I've seen people spend a small fortune on spent the majority of their time sitting in a garage.
2000 Victory Sport Cruiser , stage 4 motor , all machine work , 2003 transmission , check the specs on original bike , now 112 hp , 118 ftlbs torque , on 91 octane , Kandy painted everything , ghost flames , rim , rotors , rear sprocket , all Kandy , raised pegs 1 inch , forward 2 inches , I call her the SWEETNESS ! When they build a better one ? I’ll buy it ! And modify it !
Thanks!
Thank you for supporting the channel!!
Plus, former Motor Co. CEOs didn't even ride motorcycles!
Talk about out of touch with their customers. That all fed into what you see today, as far as their customer base they are catering to.
Like so many others , greed is the new normal.
Harley Davidson that well known tee shirt manufacturer .
CVO’s are as close as your’re going to get to a ‘custom bike’ with MOST of the available bells & whistles-but the suspension will still need an upgrade (except for Pan Americas which ride better than stock H-D’s).
CVO Fool's Purchase
I bought a 2023 SG standard 107 and paid $22,000 before taxes... The higher models are insanely expensive. I have plenty of power with my 107. I am a cruiser, not a drag racer. More power to those who want insane power. It is their pocket book. Not mine. I have read that the EPA is going to make it even tougher to make a smog legal bike anytime soon. HD will have to go to a full water jacket engine to meet smog requirements. They will not have a choice. These engines are already running way too lean. Although I have read that the M8 runs richer stock than the twin cam engines did. And then you add the ridiculous HD interest rates and dealer markups. Just look at the new CVO models. You can buy a full sized and fully loaded truck for what people are spending for two wheels. My two cents :-)
Just like a MAC, once you buy it, that's it. Buy a PC, you can customize until you die. Same as HD. I get how they could add some cool items, but a blank canvas allows you to create.
Was not too happy having to drop another 10 grand on top of the first 30 just to get my 21 RGS to fit me (6’7) and ride like it should. Stock suspension is criminally bad.
Damn..they saw you coming
6’7, they all see me coming. These bikes were only designed to fit a 6 foot guy who thinks he is big.

Its a damn shame that they got rid of the evo sportster, not only was it an affordable entry level bike, they're rock solid dependable!!
I'm split on this. My Evo Sportster was good right out of the box. The only things I had to change were personal preferences.
My twin cam 88 however, I had to upgrade and change A LOT on that one. So much in fact that I would never buy a brand new big twin Harley.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, for the price you pay these bikes should already have the premium parts on them. Otherwise Harley is lying everytime they call themselves a premium motorcycle.
My 08 FXSTB will be my forever bike, a tweak here and there and I’m fine..
Those bikes are there in HD's line up like the CVOs. The disadvantage is for those like me in states that tax a percentage of the purchase price every year for registration renewals. Adding it on myself later doesn't have this one disadvantage.
I relate it to buying cars and trucks. This is a platform to build what you want. Take a hellcat dodge for instance. Harley Dealerships don’t stock enough bikes for them to offer 10 or more varieties. Buy the bike and option it your way. Some go as far as color and engine swaps. If they tried to guess what you wanted they could end up hold a bike for a long time.
Just paid off my new 2018 flhrxs. $30000 Aussie 🇦🇺 dollars. $3500 for the upgraded pump and an s&s 465 cam 2 weeks ago. Big bucks but still love it 😊
I have three Harleys. A 1989 FXRS Low Rider that I bought for a pretty decent price back in 2003, because the seller desperately wanted a Twin Cam. It already had a backrest and aftermarket slip ons on it, which are still there. I installed a set of bolt on saddlebags using Easy Brackets. I have made a few minor repairs and done a couple of things to make it more reliable, but otherwise it is completely stock. About a year ago I bought a completely stock 2002 883C. I put aftermarket slip ons on it (just for the sound), retuned the stock carburetor for the slip ons, and put a backrest on it. I also replaced the "grenade plate" in the clutch, and while I was at it, I replaced the low quality oem clutch release bearing. That's it. The last one is a 2006 Sportster 1200L rubbermount I bought back in early 2016. It only had 4700 miles on it and was in beautiful condition. It already had slip on mufflers, saddlebags, a turn signal relocation kit, a backrest, and a clamp on genuine H-D windshield. I don't like windshields, so I removed that and put it in the closet where it still is. But it did have some cosmetic issues, at least for me. For one thing, it was just covered in those Willie G skulls. They were everywhere. Some of them I was able to peel off, but getting rid of most of them required buying new parts. I had to replace the mirrors, gas cap, grips, front footpegs, front master cylinder cover, derby cover, and timing cover. There are still some on the windshield chrome trim, but I don't use that. I didn't like the saddlebags, so I installed some new ones with Easy Brackets. I didn't like the mostly white with black and orange trim paint, so I had it repainted Sinister Blue. I replaced a leaking petcock, and replaced the clutch plates and release bearing.
Absolutely nothing I did to any of these bikes had anything to do with performance. The exhaust on the 2002 was strictly to make it sound like a Harley. The carburetor had to be retuned to keep it from running too lean with the aftermarket exhaust. The clutch replacements were to correct reliability problems H-D got wrong to start with. Everything else was cosmetic. IMO, if you want a fast bike, a Harley is not for you. If you want a fast touring bike, look at a Goldwing. Unfortunately, nobody seems to make a fast cruiser anymore. Back in the late '70s and throughout most of the 80s, the Japanese made several fast cruisers. Now they don't seem to make cruisers at all anymore.
Unfortunately you are right about why H-D no longer has any entry level bikes. Their German CEO, Jochen Zeitz, has made it clear that he intends for all future H-D bikes to eventually be battery powered, even though the Deadwire has so far been a complete failure. Unless they get a new CEO that knows what they are doing, there is no future for H-D.
My Indian with the Thunderstroke 111 Stage 1 moves me just fine. Plus,I bought it used so the last guy paid for it.
Only if they will still offer one like mine. I bought a 2006 softail standard new ON PURPOSE! Over these years I've built er into a S&S stage two just a few months ago but not much is stock anymore. My tools stay busy when I need a break and I get satisfaction keeping them that way...TO CHILL OUT! Thing is...anything in life for that cost the bucks. Be safe and just enjoy the ride people🇺🇲🤙!
Look for a nice used motorcycle that someone older has had that hasn't been doing a bunch of burnouts, etc and took good care of, have maintenance records. This is with alot of other things in life. Don't be too quick to go with the rest of the crowd, always believe the hype, etc.
With all the Specials and Customs they sell, yes they should offer a Premeire package that allows the customer to buy it all and ride it off the showroom floor. Of course I can't afford one but who knows what the future holds...
I never buy a brand new car / truck, and I also never buy a brand new Harley. I’ve always had great luck buying a used, mint condition Harley with low miles, and great upgrades. Saves me thousands of dollars. Then I only have to make focused purchases to my tastes.
Great video as always buddy i really enjoy them, I ride a 2014 low rider with stage 2 s&s cam plate fueling 525 cam I've had many HD's and this 103 tc motor puts a BIG smile on my face all the power I need. Be safe and lo e u nrother.👍
I have ridden a lot of different brands over the year, but Harley is the preferred bike now, i have 2 of them and my wife has 1. I like being able to pick up a bike off the showroom floor and build it to my taste, that the joy of owning a Harley, i can do what i want without limitations.
Are the Harley's pricy right now, sure, but so is everything, its not just Harley
Problem is for publicly owned companies is that there is never enough money, so Harley's obligation is to it's share holders by law which means they are only going to do what is necessary to successfully market a product.
Harley has made to many dumb mistakes (and stayed with them) to care about the consumer..
Stage 1 and a good suspension should be standard.
It wasn’t until my 4th dyna where I actually went heavy into motor work . Did everything you could do to a stock 96. I’m smoking low rider st’s with a stage 1 all day . I know what I want know and it’s worth it to me but back then , as long as it was loud and looked cool I didn’t care for much more haha
Yeah, thirty grand is a car...in 1974 I had a deposit on a new FXE which out the door was over 3 grand. That was a car. Years later a new Sturgis was $7200. That was a car. Fast forward to today. It's still a car. Nothing has changed.
I was in high school in 1982 when I saw the Sturgis in the hometown Harley shop window. I would drive by after hours and just stare at it. Here I am over 40 years later and have never purchased a new Harley. But that was the one that started the life
Over here in Sweden a cvo road glide is 64000$ depending on which car it might be 1 or maybe 1 and a half🙂
In 1971 My friend bought a new Super Glide for 3100.00 bucks. a VW bug in 1971 was 1600 bucks...
Well, one must account for inflation of the dollar. I have to carry an app on my phone to understand what inflation has done to the dollar
Put a cam in my M8. All the performance needed for my needs.
Performance is much improved, stock xhaust.
Big touch screens are going to kill HD
I personally think that Harley should allow you to custom order your bike. Sure a bone stock Road Glide Special is $28k, but why not allow you to order it with a 135 Engine in it instead of buying the stock bike, then pay another $8k for the motor and another $1-2k for installation. Make the bike $22k with NO MOTOR and then pick your motor INSTALLED. IF you want the 114ci, then the price is $28k, but if you want to 135ci then it costs maybe $32k ... because a 114ci crate motor is about $4k, so the 135ci is only $4k more and it takes the same time to install a 114ci as it does the 135ci.
Same thing with suspension, seats, bars, exhaust, etc. When you custom order, you should get 100% credit for the parts you want (or at least 90% credit) instead of buying stock crap and then losing your ass on "take offs". That's the way it SHOULD BE, but we know that'll never happen, because Harley, like most companies, are greedy and don't give a damn about making customers happy.
It is weird that you can't customize a $30k+ motorcycle the way you'd like. I'm also not sure why I can get a day tripper package on a Fat Bob but only a Long Haul package on a Breakout. Harley's motto must be "This ain't Burger King."
It’s because they make more $ that way and cost savings also for them
@@DarrellTurnerJr car companies allow you to order engine options. I still remember "back in the day" when my father ordered a Chevy Suburban with custom options and it came from the factory with the 454 he wanted, a trailering package, etc. He didn't have to buy the stock Suburban pull the engine and buy and install a 454 crate motor then try to sell a brand new 350 or whatever.
If you got beyond stage one you begin to cut out a lot of people who would not like the way they run. Every owner is not into higher performance or racing. Every stage beyond stage one requires that you give up some low end to gain some high end. It's not for everyone. I personally will not go beyond stage two because I'm giving up a range of low end torque that I enjoy for everyday riding. Even stage two requires using the friction zone of the clutch in parking lots and round-a-bouts to ride the bike properly and safely IMO.
I bought the street glide st to get the power I liked so I don't have to upgrade the motor. Now the suspension is another story.
I 100% agree, I ride an 05 Superglide TC88 w/stage 1 & a Cobra 2000 Fuel Enhancer & it runs strong, plenty fast enough for me & I have no problems keeping up with my buddies who spent a small fortune doing motor work, I may have to push mine hard but that’s fun to me
You should check out the Baker Drivetrain drags at Sturgis; there are some Harleys posting unbelievable times.
The choice is either a stock bike or CVO model. There is no in between like you have with say a truck. The Ford F-150 has several different trim packages : XL, XLT, Lariat....etc plus the different engine configuration. I guess they don't offer any is like you said, to keep the base price down and those who can afford it, will fork it out.
I have always wondered why if you wanted a fast bike why would you buy a Harley? A stock Suzuki or Kawasaki can blow away any hotrodded 'Merican bike. They lost their market group.
I agree + anything with HD on it is 3X the money. For me I don’t need the performance upgrades I happy just cruising and the 114 on my road glide has pleased me. I’ll save the cash for a vacation 🏍️
myb the seats lol 😂😂 mine ‘12 heritage 103 stage 1 suits me just fine
I’m just fine on my evolution Dyna.!!! Best Harley I have had.!
Harley doesn't attract new riders because there aren't any. The new generation has no interest in motorcycles or anything remotely dangerous they have been told and are still being told to STAY SAFE. This generation would only ride a motorcycle if it's a video game. The young men are trying to decide which dress to wear.
2 trains of thought 1 is that you can manufacture high performance parts for the same price as the regular stock ones if they are mass produced like stock. It's just as easy to grind a hi performance cam as a mellow one. It's just as easy as install those parts also. But the truth is that the stock bike is good enough for the new to average rider and to pass strict government regulations. #2 is that they can sell hi po parts and make a tidy profit from that and installation and they don't need to worry about regulations because now it's on the owner.
That Hot Rod parts cost more at the retail level is no accident. The difference in price at the manufacturing level between a stock cam and a screaming eagle cam is likely zero. It's a cam. Parts are parts. The customer perceives higher value, and therefore can justify in his mind forking over more loot.
For me, the fun with my 2002 FXD was, to give it a stage IV+ 107hp rear wheel and 162 nm torque.
And take 35kilogram of junk of. It was 300kg new, now it is 265kg.
I took all rusty old iron of as far as possible, and changed it for stainless and aluminum. Both wheels with alu rims and stainless spokes.
Better shocks made the ride a lot better.
Harley should not use all that heavy old iron crap, but use durable stuff and make it leighter.
Less weight, better handling.
You're asking too much, their profit margins would decrease if they actually used light quality materials of just cheap cast iron, steel and aluminum
@@tomtemple69 Agree, Only the Japanese can build lightweight motorcycles that have high HP and TQ, and keep the prices reasonable.
@@BMWHP2 triumph is alright too, have you ever ridden their new rocket 3? 165 HP 163ft lbs 🤯🤯🤯 the torque is unreal, no production bike comes close, namely cuz it's got a 2.5 liter 😆 I'm surprised they made such a balanced bike with a 2500cc, it's not a slouch in the corners either, and I'm struggling to hold on when it's full throttle
That bike is by far better than anything Harley or Indian has ever made and the triple sounds great
@@tomtemple69 Agree, the Rocket is faster than any HD or Indian.
I started racing motorcycles in 1971 on a 750cc Norton. I like these English bikes to. The Triumphs are modern.
The Rocket is fast, but also on the heavy side and isnt that good in cornering. In comparison with USA bikes . . . .yes, it is fast in cornering too.
In Europe, most riders love fast corners. I think, in the USA it is more about fast in streight lines.
@@BMWHP2 yeah the rocket 3 is faster in straights and corners than the Harleys or Indians 😆
They should give you the option of ordering it the way you want it, if your willing to spend the money, it's always better to build it right in the first place
Viper Cycles was to far away for me , they had the 151 Viper motor , I bet that impressed , in New York
😎👍
Big thumbs up for the channel...
Recently upgraded to a stage 4 Screaming Eagle 103ci to 110ci...
Save money because my Extended Warranty offset the price for the mod's
Then I bought a new Extended Warranty to cover the Screaming Eagle parts...
Is anyone surprised by this? The parts I think they need to put on a “stock” bike because of the cost is better suspension and LED lighting all around. Performance upgrades really aren’t necessary the bikes run fine with out putting a lot of money into the motor that’s more personal preference IMO. Making the bike yours is part of fun but it can certainly be expensive.
Going to ride the piss out of my 2018 Softail stage 2. When it's worn out. Going to have some blueprint done and ride it some more.
My 2018 Fatbob was $40k CAN !!!! Stage one (2-1 Bassani RR, TTS Mastertune), 10 inch BK bars, Saddlemen seat, custom 3 ft. sissy bar, Dougz spartan screen, 2 inch lift and Bung King tip protection bars. Seems a little steep, but that is our "NEW WORLD". Gone are the days when almost everyone with a good job (average wage) could afford a boat, camper, quad, dirtbike, road bike and anything else you wanted. Why have we allowed this to happen?
I have bought , and owned 13 H-D's over my 27 years of riding their machines . I sold my M8 2020 Heritage , as it lacked soul , I currently own 4 older H-D's , and love them , however , if I could start over , and live again , I would prefer the simple Royal Enfield machines , timeless classics , and the oldest brand in the world . Never again will I buy a new Harley , they are ugly now , and cluttered with crap , not what they once were . Thanks , and ride safe .
Problem that I have with HD is that they forgotten the 5 to 10 years old bikes and most of there part people knows what is new .
I think the factory relies on the used market for entry level purchases.
I love Harleys but Harley has made so many mistakes over the years it's a wonder they are still afloat. I go as far back as shovelheads. Had many and they are good bikes but the Evo was a great motor. I must say my 2015 103 is an outstanding performing engine and bike. I have had many fast Harleys but now I enjoy the ride much much more rather that the need for speed. Safe passage.
Some times , I think if ! If the older Harley people who worked an fixed all the screw ups from the factory,, Harley would never be what it is today !!!! All the older gen. Made great power , sound . That the rest of us wanted !!!
i like to tour the country, all my upgrades are safety and comfort first. only upgrade performance wise is slip ons and a tuner so i can get max efficiency for touring without running extra hot. On a road glide why do i need to race a mini van . i can beat it stock. I like to do long distance riding i have to ride through a 1000 miles of boring shit to get to a cool state with great roads and scenery. 1000 miles on a new road glide in a day is a piece of cake.
I'm glad you covered this, because this is why I'm not trading in my sportster 48. Harley marketing is genius, but I'm not falling for it.
Would it really cost Harley Davidson more ? They wouldn't be replacing parts, they would be using them to start with. Would it cost them any more to use bigger cylinders, valves, cams, etc etc. ?
Where would the “aftermarket “ be if H-D were to put the ultimate motorcycle on the showroom floor??
Please don't get me started on how HD has left the Bluecollar fellas behind. They're the sorriest bunch of clowns around. I apoligize to anyone that works as a real clown.
You do honest work for honest pay. Not the HD bunch. It makes me sick to think about it.
rebuilding my 99 twink..on the fence of what kit to use...looking at the 100..but question ??how much strain will that put on the lower end..as well as the 98 0r 95...or is that some thing not to worry about..install it and run it stock heads and a 510 gear drive cams...and believe it or not the M&M fuel injection system..i found a shop that can tune it..it run's like a champ when it want too..lol
I just did a 98" big bore on my 99 roadking. 108 tq 105 hp.
That crap became the standard business model for everyone back in the late 70s.
You used to get center caps and lugs when you bought a set of mags for your vehicle, but then you had to start buying everything separately.
Good old American capitalism.
Good video.👍
No No No I'd rather buy a stock bike, and put my 10k or 15k towards choosing my own parts, for the simple fact that you can pick up Fueling cam chest kit, Zippers, Woods, etc, big bore kit, HPI exhaust, Hpi air cleaner and intake, Thunder Max Tuner and eat anything HD screaming eagle would give you out of the box because of the point you made The EPA...it's true, The Motor Co has been paying fines to the epa, to keep the bikes basically air cooled for more than a decade, but eventually they'll all go full water cooled, and with that the traditional 🥔 🥔 sound will also be in the history books. Just look at the differences in the sounds of the partially water cooled M8 engines and the TC not to mention the lick and old Shovel, or Evo hit even in front of factory pipes of the era...My Granpa and Dad Rode, grew up in the shop around bikes & hotrods and I hate seeing HD leaving the customers who have kept them in business for the past 120 years for more corporate, weekend warrior types who ride their bikes 5,000 miles in 5 years or less then sell them, but I sure haven't minded buying the gently ridden used bikes up, doing any mods to them doctor 200 miles a weekend didn't do and reselling them for a little profit after riding them for a while...either way the only a
Way I'll pay 40g's for a bike is if I'm buying two, or I got lucky and hit the lottery. Great Job Layin Down The Facts As Always My Friend...Rock On!!
Buy used… I bought. 2016 UL w/ 103 “h.p.”.. 58,000 miles…. For $14,000 bike was 100% stock. No motor mods.. paying $14,000 @ dealer.. left tons of money to add power.. took to a local shop.. 2 guys had over 50 yrs of exp between them.. handed over $7,000 and now I have a nasty well built reliable HD UL.. sounds nasty, 150’ish hp w/ 145 or so of tq…. And will last another 50,000 plus thousand miles… new you will loose your ass unless your pokeys are huge…. Buy a good used dream Hd.. and build it….
to bad harley did not take a que from Triumph 120 bobber. you can barely tell they are liquid cooled. they should have done that to their real sportsters. I paid cash foe a 2023 soft tail standard, it was the only one that did not need to be financed. it was a surprise/shocking that they use a plastic intake manifold on an air cooled engine, my dealer put on an aluminum intake and drag bars so my warrenty is good. Twin Cities Harley Davidison has been a great dealer for me in Lakeville, Minnesota, USA..BEST IN THE AREA AFTER A YEAR OF SHOPPING around.👍
Imagine how cheap it is to buy an 883 evo and make it a 1250 these days. And you can decide if you want carb or efi on what is possibly HD's best engine. 😎
I personally prefer the idea of making it your own. That’s one reason I would never buy a CVO (not that I could ever afford one).
What year is that breakout custom at 0:29 ? Do you know who’s build that is?” By any chance?
I have owned several Harley's but no more, they are just too expensive to own. Parts, even after market parts are expensive. I wish I could afford to own one and keep it going but I ride a Road star 1700 (102 ci) that never really needs anything. It's a twin cam engine that sounds like my old Shovelhead. The last Harley I owned was a twin cam Deuce that did not sound like a Harley at all, it actually sounded like shit to me so I sold it... These newer Harley's only sound good if they have an aftermarket cam...
I ageee brother! I have a 2015 Road Glide Special with a Stage 1. At this point I plan to ride it stock until I hit 50k after I plan on a complete stage 2 with primary upgrades. Appreciate your videos.
I would disagree with your assessment. If they only manufactured 135 then the cost is the same as making a 114. The game is played 107,114,117,121. The cost to offer multi spectrum cubic inches is a marketing scam. Digging into the customer's discretionary income. A single heavy clutch, single heavy duty tranny, top notch crank keeping the offering simple and let the aftermarket handle the heavy upgrades. Market of scale still holds water.
1967 XLCH ( My first new bike) $1897, New pinto or VW in 1967.
@@normangraber1047 I know gasket reliability has changed exponentially since then, but how to you rate overall reliability of that bike to other bikes you have owned?
The CH? Well it came with a 3 month warranty that covered the part only, If you had a really nice dealer he might split the labor. An Ironhead Sportster might get 20k before you had to do the top end including valves and guides. Bear in mind the XLCH didn't even have an oil filter.
Yeah, the good old days before AMF.(Snark)
The reliability factor has increased a thousand fold since then.
I'm currently riding a Victory, a honking big air cooled V-Twin that's incredibly reliable.
I'm mystified as to why they don't make them anymore.
It just doesn't break and I ride rather aggressively and for just about $1500 in performance parts I'm getting 103 HP and 106 ft. lbs. of torque out of a 100 cubic inch motor.
It's been a hoot to see how the machines and the sport has changed in the past 60+ years.

@@normangraber1047 Thank you for sharing. I had a couple of victory Jackpots. A 100 with Lloyd's cam and his tuner. The second was a 106 with just a stage 1. They were both really nice. I too hated to see Polaris dump the brand.
I think it's more important to pressure them to bring back a intro level bike or in 20yrs no harley
This new CEO is squeezing everything out of the company so he can say he made it money without any interest in the future. He doesn't care about the future of Harley, he's gonna "turn it around" and retire with his money or move on.
@@GixxerFooI hope HD gets rid of him and gets someone who actually likes Harleys
Harleys market is dentists and lawyers.
Harley Taaaaxxxxx.....Ever heard that before?
Back in 1989 it was certainly a fact. A set of slip ons, no cat, and a rebuilt carb with bigger jets took little cash and just a few hours the first time, riding into higher altitudes you learned quickly.
I got my 1983 FXWG where I like it. I am not a fast rider.
103 stage 1 plenty don’t need all that other crap been there with a 114 stage 2 did nothing for me how fast u wanna go ?
Victory was decades ahead of its time. There was very little you needed to do to a Victory cosmetically and they came off the showroom floor producing more horsepower and torque than Harley in that era not to mention they were and still are more reliable. Victory had wild paint schemes, larger front wheels (Magnum models) and stretch bags that for the most part was standard. Items Harley customers had to shell out money to get a CVO just to be equivalent to a standard Victory.
Indian has better technology than Harley-Period. Better brakes, better suspension, an engine that has a better top end, better infotainment system that integrates everything into one unit, integrated turn signals and a retractable windscreen.
You would have to buy a CVO to get what Indian has offered on their base model baggers for years. Harley STILL has their customers turning a knob to adjust the rear suspension on their 2024 bikes when Indian had electronically adjustable suspension on the Roadmaster that you could adjust through the infotainment system for years. So, if you’re paying the same if not more for an Indian you’re getting your money’s worth.
Your 100% correct, 49 grand for the new cvo???!!!. Crazy. Id rather buy a used road king and put an sns 124 twin cam in it and still have money left
I'd rather buy a Honda
I am fine with picking my own engine Mods. It's the suspension that Harley really needs to do better with stock. No travel on any of their rear shocks.
I love your showman. You are very smart dude when it comes to Harley they should give you a tap position at the company designing and advising really surprised to make any offers yet. Anyway, I heard you say it’ll be too expensive just to put the aftermarket bearings in the champions are you kidding me? What are the $15 each that’s cool not gonna make it any more expensive little things like that. They wanted to break down she could bring it back to them to fix.
I don't mind keeping the aftermarket alive that's what it's about it super cool
Your channel is great and informative.
As high as they sell new, customers are already paying for the good parts
Personally, I have always been completely satisfied with my stock Harley Davidsons.
Agreed 👍
@gixxerfoo what bike is that picture here at 0:12?
That's a older Sportster, a XG750 and a Softail Slim. The XG was a terrible flop for Harley 😬
@gixxerfoo wait! I meant the bike pictured at 0:29. Sorry. Please let me know brother. Thank you btw for all the great informative content.
@gixxerfoo I know it’s customized. Just not sure what the base is. Breakout? Fat boy?
Gixxer Foo dumping knowledge as always! Love it.
Well I say that everyone do not want to do all of those up grades on their bike. The bike that they buy is just what they want !!
It's all about making it yours. Everyone mods their bike to their liking. No two bikes are the same. Bottom line HD wants your money💵.
Not sure some of the screaming eagle parts are any better. If you want to modify your bike aftermarket is the way to go. But I agree if harley put the upgrades on the bike at the factory and sell for lower price, they would definitely make the money back in apparel and other harley branded products.
Harley should have stuck with Buell and marketed that to new/younger riders-im thinking water cooled sport bikes. Harley could have continued building dinosaurs for people like me, but now they look stuck.
The 1125R was/is a a bad MF'R. The 1190 was a real beast.
@normangraber1047 Yes, for sure. It's crazy Harley didn't see the demographic shift coming. Buell even gave them a way to not market it as a "Harley" so closed minded die hards weren't angry. It sucks to see it declining. They had a lot of promise for all riders.
Get rid of the EPA and it would free up Harley to make better decisions for their customers.
I'm going to go Evo if get another one
HD Moneygrabbers Inc should have left that engine in the scrap bin and added a proven reliable EVO.
For the price they are selling the bikes, they should have the upgrade parts already in them!
G F comment I have a 07 Ultra classic Screamin Eagle 103 in bike run hotter than a sherrifs pistol I ride in shorts it was miserable in my legs 2018 the CBO only had about twelve thousand miles on it I decided to put some true dual Vance & Hines exhaust and also added air dam cylinder deflectors between the combination of redirection of the exhaust and the air deflectors dream come true made it a lot more user-friendly Cruiser I would recommend this for all Ultra classics F Y I diaries of a motorcycle man
And another thing about Harley Davidson they’re not offering very many parts for twin cam‘s. Do you have to go aftermarket. I was going to do the 117 kit from Harley it’s reasonable they don’t offer it anymore or they say it’s seven months out they want the money upfront but they’re not guaranteeing it. They say you will get a refund if you don’t get it. $2000 or actually 23 now. I’m going to hold it for seven or eight months. And that’s on a maybe.
They leave out all the good parts and still charge u as if all the good parts are on it 😂😂😂
