    In Seattle, all of the Goodwill's hold back their designer items and send them to a once a year "glitter sale" where prices are insanely high. Kinda defeats the point of thrift shopping to find hidden gems if there aren't any.

      @@cupid3890 not to be rude but I don’t think these girls should be held accountable for the rising in prices. If you’ve ever been to one of these places, in my opinion, there is more then enough to go around for everyone. And even still with it being popular a lot of these clothes still probably end up in landfills. Everyone should have the option to buy affordable clothing. No one knows what financial situation people are in. I feel it is the stores that should be held accountable, as they see that it is popular and they can make a better profit off us. Which is unfortunate because that defeats the purpose of thrift stores in my opinion. And also most thrift stores get their inventory through Donations.

      There can be legit designer things but it’s very infrequent. Those flats scream “mass produced cheapy flat” before even considering the Chanel aspect. Especially with something like those shoes however, a thrift store can easily spot that the Chanel brand and would certainly look them over and put them behind the”designer counter” if they weren’t fake. Designer pieces that are less obvious either a less flashy name or something that looks typical but has that designer tag on the inside (not quickly and easily spotted) - those are the pieces I’d expect to find on the rack, and have better “legit” potential.
      These shoes, or those super tacky baby T shirts with flashy designer logos embellished on the front with rhinestones - that seem to be made for every designer name when I HIGHLY doubt that the line EVER made actual rhinestone logo baby tees, to begin with 🙄🙄, or the equally tacky multi colored logo print handbags, that are at nearly every thrift store - that stuff surely isn’t real (despite seeing nearly every reseller on TH-cam finding all of those and each time, excitedly proclaiming that they’ve found designer pieces. Ahem Threads Obsessed).
      The day Burberry makes a fluorescent lime green baby t with their nÿame and logo plastered across the front in little rhinestones, let me know. Oh wait, but Fendi and Gucci have also designed that same brightly colored baby tee with the giant rhinestone logo detail also?? Wow. What a coincidence! But don’t worry if you’ve always wanted one but weren’t able to get one: I’ll be selling them on my Depop for hugely discounted prices. I’m thinking something like $99? Hits right below that 3 digit $100 price. Oh also - Each one is missing a few rhinestones and the designer names and logos are slightly incorrect - and never mind the fully polyester material (it gives “low quality, back alley flea market booth clothing vibes but it’s the aesthetic that …all of the designers were going for). Hit me up if anyone is Interested in the baby tees!

      Well it happens, all the time. Yes the very wealthy do in fact donate their well used or very aged designer items but more often vintage designer end up in thrift stores when someone has passed away in the family (usually an older person) so a Grandma or Auntie who liked nice things may have had just a few lux peices, all of their clothing is packed up by the family and donated to a charity, and that is how vintage lux designers - that are real- end up in a thrift store. Often the family just doesn't have the time or interest in trying to resell a few peices of vintage luxury items so they just donate it all. Also, a person can specify in their will that all their clothes be donated to charity so that is what is done. For sure there are absolutely real luxury designer items in a thrift store. Unfortunately most thrift stores today are "for profit" , not non profit and they mark these designer items way up and as other stated they keep them locked up behind the counter.

      Not so. Just go to the wealthy part of town. I used to live in South Bend, near Notre Dame, and you would not believe the things I found there. My favorite is a vintage Gucci leather belt for 2 dollars (the brand name and serial number were placed very discreetly on the leather, which must be why the person pricing the items missed it). Another favorite is a vintage cashmere long winter coat for 15 dollars. It helps to familiarize yourself with real designer items that you know are real - you don’t have to buy them, just inspect them (the leather feel, the stitching, etc). I’ve definitely also seen a lot of knockoffs, but since I’d seen real items from that label, I could tell pretty quickly they were knockoffs.

      True. I found Chloé leather boots at the thrift for 7 dollars once, but they were pretty beat up. I took them to the cobbler and had them fixed for about 70 dollars. Now they look beautiful, but that’s closer to what one would expect to pay for thrifted designer.

    • @rachspeed

    • @alyssathedoll

      I was thinking the same thing. Even if the store didn’t have changing rooms, I would not be changing in my sports bra out in the open, because I wouldn’t want to make those uncomfortable around me. A feel like if we set the timer back a few years, this would be public indecency, but I guess this is normal now.

      @@jewelk2021 tbh doesn’t matter the location you can find designer at anyone. Just because she lucked out doesn’t mean she always will. As someone whos been working for the company a long time there is never going to be one location with all the hidden stuff . So sharing where she shopped at isn’t a big deal. Its all about timing when thrifting.

    • @malsjohn
      @malsjohn ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@Sarahhh this isn't exactly true. certain stores are more likely to have designer than others due to location. thrift stores in wealthier areas will have a wealthier pool of donations that they can put out. it might not be always but it will be more likely and if you're thrifting for specific styles, that's important to be aware of.

    It is possible to find authentic luxury labels at the thrift. After the season was over my employer would donate all of our staff wardrobe to the Goodwill or Salvation Army. So it could be that what you’ve found were once staff uniforms from the brand. As a new season approaches the luxury brands get new uniforms. I used to work for one of the fashion houses you mentioned here… and it wasn’t Sears 😆
