    Chemical reaction engineering involves the study of various reactions, the factors affecting those reactions, and the design of reactors for different reactors.
    Based on the number of phases the reactions can be classified as
    Homogeneous Reaction
    Heterogeneous Reaction
    Homogeneous reactions involve only a single phase and are affected by factors such as temperature, pressure, and concentration of reactants.
    Heterogeneous reactions involve multiple phases, due to which there is mass transfer taking place between the different phases. So for heterogeneous reactions, the rate of the mass transfer becomes an important factor that affects reaction rate apart from the factors affecting reaction rate homogeneous reactions.
    The reaction rate is defined for one component (generally the limiting reagent) and can be defined in various useful and meaningful ways. The reaction rate can be defined based on:
    The volume of the reacting fluid
    The volume of the reactor (which is equal to the vol of reacting fluids for liquid reactants)
    Surface of solid
    the volume of solid for gas-solid systems.
