I wear a big boot (14) and finally caved and bought LWCG cable aiders. I hate the words, but game changer for me. I've thrown money at webbing and amsteel aiders and could never feel comfortable ascending and descending. I'll keep my amsteel aider in my pack incase a cable breaks but the positive foothold achieved with a cable aider is hard to beat.
I found JRB method 2 years ago and I'm so happy I did. Fast and safe. He is a PA guy too you should check out his stuff. The barrier to entry seems big but it's really knot ;)
My left knee only bends very little after a car accident and I really wanted to try saddle hunting but was afraid i couldn't i seen the jx3 saddle and thought it would be great so i found someone who had one and asked to try it and i was hooked lol I use a stick ladder with steps side by side not staggered and love it i so glad i tried it
Hi Nate, Just spit-balling here. Is there such a thing as a hybrid type of one-stick method? Place 2-3 sticks, but move the top stick up as one climbs the tree, as if it was a one-stick method. That seems like it would save some time, and not have to carry 4 or 5 sticks. Is that even a thing?
I’m new to saddle hunting this year. I’ve been practicing JRB method. I like it mainly because it’s zero slack all the way up/down.
Try the S.M.A.R.T. Method.

Those ladder steps are everywhere in SE PA.
Tree hopper & bolts
With one sticking I’d be worried about working up a sweat in cold temperatures.
Also, hang free makes quality stuff. Good dudes too.
Love the crew at Hang Free!
Those cabon fiber ones looks like they are slippery. Ide like to see some one use them on a cold wet snowy day.
I'm interested to try them out in the nasty PA weather this Fall/Winter!
Have for 2 seasons, are excellent. worked great in the pouring down rain and the low 20s. never had a problem
Theres a stick involved. In about 3-5 years I'm predicting theyll be defunct. I certainly hope so.

You could totally do that if you wanted! I don't know of anyone who does it that way but it makes perfect sense to me.
What about the wild edge stepps?
I had them for a bit. Didn’t care for them too much. Hard to get both feet on one step.
I ran the WE Steps for one year and dumped them almost immediately for sticks. Too many setup steps for me to enjoy them.
Which can cleat do you use for amsteel?
Arken CAM Cleat.
1:19 that’s what she said
Can older people use a saddle or is climbing just too hard (60 years old)
Absolutely! There's nothing age restrictive about it. If you can climb any normal treestand, you can climb with a saddle for sure.
I'm 60 and climb much faster than the younger guys. However, I use a better system (2TC).
Almost 61 and been doing it for going on 4 years.
