    2 Guitarists are responsible for me switching from Drums to Guitar. One is Joe Walsh. The other, because I was (and still am) a Daryl Hall John Oates freak - is G.E. Smith. G.E. is not only a phenomenal player, but any time you get a chance to hear him tell stories or talk gear - you have no choice but to give him your full attention because he's so interesting! And he's an encyclopedia when it comes to knowledge on gear!

      Thats weird because I never really noticed Hall and Oates as a guitar band, I kind of always hated them. LOVE spells love or some kind of crap like that. But I'm imagining this guy running for president. "Inflation is up Mr. President..."chill out, we just legalize more of it and it'll all be good".
      I think he's a little too humble on his playing, his emmy interview he's like "I'm not that good". Dude, you've been in love with and played guitar since you were four, not only are you good, you goddam well BETTER be good:) What he really helped me do is expand my listening to folk tunes like pretty peggio. After that interview I think a lot of people went looking for that. And it made me look around here, because it turns out my province has a HUGE history of folk music that I didn't even know about thanks to 'AM radio'. OK, some of it is pretty bad, but the good thing is there's the music, then' there's the song. I've got a three string cigar box box guitar, I think thats the most I'll ever master. Ha ha, sorry, the most I'll ever 'play tolerably', ok ok, strum along and sing to.
      I kind of always hated the electric guitar, it seemed like a lazy players way of 'relaxing' with reverb and limited chords, but when you hear people who are GOOD at it, thats another thing. And when he said he liked the Replacements, well, come on. If you don't like the replacements MUSIC you have to like the Replacements. We have a canadian band called Rheostatics who have a song where they sing "Someone said we sounded like the Replacments, but we'll never be the Beatles or Birds, someone said we should have stayed in the basement, instead of littering our noise on this earth".

    • @smkxodnwbwkdns8369
      @smkxodnwbwkdns8369 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidholden4543 there’s two kind of guitarists. gawky socially awkward white guys that treat music as an athletic competition, and musicians that understand music is an ART. The later includes every successful band/artist that have made a cultural impact. I’m a guitarist myself and I have no respect for people that are obsessed with playing fast and precise. Those are afterall only two qualities that can be good or bad depending on the context, as slow and sloppy can be equal. Keith Richards is better than those high school kids for many reasons, first of all he has written so many amazing songs and riffs that have reached millions of people, something none of those kids will ever do. Secondly, keith has a couple of styles he developed that he is a master of. He plays chuck berry better than chuck berry. He also has an incredible robert johnson fingerstyle mode of playing that is better than anything woodyman, grossnan, or recent “finger picker” I ever heard. It is infectious, danceble, funky, and sinister sounding. Hes yet to record it but ive heard him play and its amazing. Not to mention his staples like open g tuning on a fender.
      Music is self expression and the creation of the beautiful, anything else is secondary.

    nothing at all against the Foo Fighters, that’s obviously a great band, but bigger than Nirvana? No way! They are only bigger in a fake commercial way and none of that is real. What’s actual? Nirvana is.

    GE is really cool to listen but when we he was on SNL he was annoying to watch always mugging and smirking for the camera
