    For every day a strike happens it sets the country 7-10 days behind on supplies. A month long strike expect prices to triple and many businesses relying on strong 4th quarters to be badly affected, layoffs and beyond.

      Exactly. No one seems to realize the choice of this strike will impact literally the entire country.

    most of these companies are foreign owned companies not United States companies that made hundreds of billions of dollars during Covid and now they don’t want to pay the dock workers a small increase in wages, the same workers that got sick and died moving containers on their terminals. They want to try to automate terminals like they do overseas that doesn’t create jobs. It eliminates jobs which eliminates families and other businesses in the area, they have to move away because they can’t afford it anymore in the cities that they grew up in. So company that made $50 billion doesn’t want to pay a couple hundred more million to support these workers is a shame.

  • @STSwhisperer
    @STSwhisperer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Automated terminals reduce the unskilled workforce, that is true. It will never eliminate it. What he failed to mention was that it increases skilled labor. Skilled ILA labor maintain this equipment. Unions need to work harder with this reality and put infrastructure to training skilled workers.

      Some ports have already automated and made most of those employees obsolete!
      The writing has been on the board.
      I am on that boat where my job will be replaced and automated!

      Unions stick together more non union Ports join the ILA just look at last year and more are said is they want to join. Also some of the non union Ports don’t want to interfere. Because if they ever go union when it’s time for them to strike all the unions will remember. It’s always going to be a strategy with union and non union Ports. It’s dangerous work all ports should be union in my opinion.

      You’re uninformed about the situation. These greedy corporations made recorded billions without any hazard pay issued to us. They made so much that one of the CEO’s gave himself a 4 billion dollar bonus and all his employees a years salary as a bonus while we are scraping by due to inflation. If you can’t do the research on the topic then you shouldn’t put your 2 cents in. Yeah it’s greed. But not on the part of the union.
