For all the shit that MoBW gets wrong with it's characters, i do think that Yuri is a good character. It's basically a story about a girl feeling isolated because she gets tormented by ghosts and can't talk about it, which mirror's Ose's story about her being a shrine maiden being made ready for the eternal loneliness that waits for her in the reliquary. Hell the endings are some of the best because Yuri either ends up falling forever or helping Ose with her loneliness. Also i think the main shrine maiden models look amazing for their sense of regalness for lack of a better term
The 'amateur meteorologist' joke caught me by surprise and made me laugh so hard. I've never played any of these games because I am a wimp with terrible reflexes, but I love the stories and the atmosphere and they're some of my favorite games to experience secondhand. I think I may have even discovered the first one through your channel!
Ah yes, my ancient Let's Play from...13 years ago?! I refuse to accept that But yeah, they are great games. They get the balance right by being unnerving without feeling too uncomfortable to play through, like I find with a lot of stalker horror games that end up being stressful and unpleasant.
such a criminally underrated video!!! absolutely loved watching this thank you!! fatal frame games are so special and it's always so amazing to see other people's take on them
In Shinto beliefs women are more yin than yang meaning they are the same wavelength as ghosts and gods and also women are more in tune to the spirit world then men.
It's just straight up the best in the series, anyone who says otherwise is objectively wrong. The ghosts in 3 are fast, terrifying, asthetically pleasing, and they have such amazingly haunting back stories, and that final boss! *Chefs kiss* Not to even mention how unsettling real world becomes at night. Favorite ghost is the hair brushing woman, she looks completely normal but before she attacks her face completely shifts, blood coming out of her eyes and mouth etc, super cool. Occasionally she snaps back to reliving her life trauma and breaks down wailing and crying. They are all just so good, especially the 4 stake girls, the one violent one is a nutter when you finally fight her. Anyone who thinks 2 is a better game is delusional.
@@everilliem3292Im one of the people that simply believes fatal frame 3 is a better game than fatal frame 2 in a narrative perspective, but level design, i think the manor was honestly an step down compared to all gods village having various small houses that are easier to navigate. PD: rei is hands down the best protagonist!
Yes, Miku. We know it’s raining again. And I am still so psyched to see four finally get released over here. It just has such a different feel and I’m looking forward to giving it a spin after all these years.
Fantastic video and I am always ecstatic to see people talk of Fatal Frame/Project Zero Now that Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is released worldwide, I am looking forward to your video on that!
Ahhh, I watched my friend play these games in high school long ago, specifically the OG trilogy. I loved them but I was way too scared to play them myself! I'm a huge horror-survival fan to this day because of these games. :)
Fatal frame 2 was the first game that i played when i bought the ps2, my 2 sister and i took turn each chapter, we played it at night with lights out, and my oldest sister got to chapter 7 - sae.... Helllll... She was juat running around like crazy without flashlight, it was a fun time.
I loved project zero 2 when i played it on my ps2, definitely one of the scariest games i have played plus this game made me a huge fan of Japanese horror and folklore, hopefully they will release the p2 trilogy remastered on modern consoles, will buy it day 1 for sure
Let me correct you on the based on the true story part. Shibata-San has said many times in interviews the ghosts that appear in Fatal Frame games are in fact based on his real life experiences with ghosts. He claims to have seen ghosts all his life. So the ghosts are based on true accounts just the stories themselves aren’t real.
Oh, 100% about Shibata and his experiences being a major influence on the game. But the US marketing very strongly states that the mansion itself is real and so is the ritual, despite there being no evidence of this.
lol sure. I honestly wish movies and games would stop with the "based on a real story" bullshit when everything is obviously fictional. You don't need a useless moniker like that if you want to make and sell decent media.
I’ve played all of them except the fourth. I keep waiting for there to be a good sale. I thought the 5th was ok, definitely like the first three. Hope we get a trilogy remaster soon. There’s still a want for fatal frame!!!
I’m guessing you were as thrilled as the rest of us Fatal Frame/Project Zero fans when Mask of the Lunar Eclipse was finally released as a remake for all the current systems last year.
I have mixed feelings about the fan service in later games. On the one hand of course I want to see pretty girls in skimpy clothes, on the other hand its supposed to be scary and that stuff can get distracting. esp in Maiden of Black Water where the ghosts themselves are more titillating than scary. Oh well, I just hope they make some new Fatal Frame games one day. Its a great series that needs a reboot.
As a kid even I knew that line "based on a true story" was utter bs 🤣 but I did always wanted to play these games, just like you I played the exact demo over and over again. But i was busy with games like resi and silent hill. Only a few years ago, I discovered the first 3 games was and still available digitally on the PS3 US PSN Store, much better than setting ip emulators on my crappy old laptop lol. You really should play the Wii Remake! It's amazing. It's was available to purchase in the Wii U eshop, I bought it straight away. But unfortunately as you know, the eshop is closed down. But there's are ways 😏🤣 You really should do an updated video 😊 With knowledge of the Wii Remake of the second game and current ports of 4th and 5th games. Hehe 😄 really enjoyed the video. Currently watching your video on FFX-2 since that's also a personal favourite of mine. Sub too 😊
I did do a followup video on the 4th game's remaster! As for the Wii remake of 2, I'd probably just look at getting a second hand physical copy if I really wanted to play it (assuming it's not super expensive now)
@@Bobthepetferret I checked CeX... £48.... Yeah no thanks 😂😂 I paid around 10 euros on the Eshop. I recently gel break my Wii U and finally played the 5th game. Yeah I agree with you.... Team Ninja is all over the place. I felt the same way of the wet t-shirt effect 😂 with the jingle physics, I didn't notice until this video 😂😂😂 I have a PS4, i do want to play the 4th game but ill wait until for deal or price cut. Same with the 5th game too
If you have a PS3 lying around, you can still buy the original three in the US anyway on the PlayStation Store so if you're a retro gamer you can still buy them on the PS3 as of the time of writing this comment.
Where did u find the project zero 4 rom😭 i was looking for it every where i know that they made a remastered port for the newest gen but it feels lifeless it's not like the original the new style focuses on keeping the characters look pretty & flawless... like THEY lack facial expressions i don't wanna play as a lifeless pretty doll!!
Internet Archive. It was the first result when I searched for "fatal frame 4 iso" and it's already been patched with the fan translation. Obviously you need the Dolphin emulator to run it. That said, having played both versions, I can't really say I've noticed the problem you're talking about. Characters felt about the same level of expressive in both to me. I would also argue in favour of playing the remaster just because of how many issues I had with emulation, especially with a lengthy initial controller setup that ultimately never really felt good to play. The text is also buggy, and the translation is pretty inconsistent (it's good for an amateur effort, but obviously pales in comparison to a professional job). The original ghost list is also infamously broken, which was fixed for the remaster. If you still want to play the emulated version, that's your choice, but I would personally advise against it.

Fatal Frame 3 is the scariest one. The ghosts are disturbing on this one. I love the Project Zero series and you did a very good job here.

“They’re not going to release this in the west, it’s time I accepted that.” Well that aged like milk
Turned into yoghurt or cheese?
Yes, Miku. We know it’s raining again.

I was reeling from the announcement for several days, I was so convinced it would never happen
I honestly hear that voice line pop into my head religiously when it rains.... For like 15 years or so now, don't know why but it's just ingrained.
Fantastic video and I am always ecstatic to see people talk of Fatal Frame/Project Zero
Now that Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is released worldwide, I am looking forward to your video on that!
Good news! The Fatal Frame 4 video will be up in roughly 9 hours!

Can NOT tell you how much I love your content! So glad I discovered your channel. Excuse me while I binge EVERYTHING. 🎉
Thank you! Hope you enjoy your binge!
Found this while desperately needing more project zero content. I was NOT expecting that comparison between 3 and 5.
heh 😀

Thanks for a great nostalgia-bomb and update on the nintendo-only games I never played.
They're not Nintendo-only anymore! (well, 4 still currently is, but won't be next year)
Just subscribed to you after watching a few videos. You've done such a great job with these high quality videos. Please keep up the good work! :DD :))

Resident Evil is more heavily influenced by the works of Lucio Fulci and Bruno Mattei as opposed to George Romero tbh.

The addition of Hasshakusama (the tall ghost woman) was a surprising concept they should have explored; optional ghosts based on known folklore.
44:10 Dude! That was mean! You made in on purpose 😂
heheheheh
32:41 Yeah…. About that……
40:10 Yes, indeed, about that
one of my favorite series ever
My opinion of Maiden of Black Water is "its a bad fatal frame game, but a good horror game"😂
I’ve played all of them except the fourth. I keep waiting for there to be a good sale. I thought the 5th was ok, definitely like the first three. Hope we get a trilogy remaster soon. There’s still a want for fatal frame!!!

I mean, I say as much in the actual video ;)
It's kinda funny that Mask of the Lunar Eclipse recieved a Switch and PlayStation the year after this video was released
I do reference the then-upcoming release of that around 40:05, yes
I literally just got my physical mask of the lunar eclipse today!!!!!! It’s ….. not bad. Reallly want a og trilogy remaster… physical of course

Fatal frame 5 gaslit me into thinking the entire franchise seggsualized the protags. Boy was I surprised ToT
It's okay, you can say sexualised here. I won't mute you for it.
Missed opportunity to photoshop camera obscuras onto everyone in the Project Zero Warriors cover.
I like what you have to say here

Any chance of talking about Shadow Corridor ?
I've honestly never heard of it
Hello Bob I hope you have a Good day

I would give anything, ANYTHING, for a new Project Zero game developed by Kojima. It would be glorious.
Wait.. People actually play Fatal Frame/Project Zero for scares? I thought people just played it for story.
I just bought Maiden of Black Water on steam for the boobie physics lol.
