I gave up archery for more than 20 years because of exactly what you are stating. I got back into it in 2017 and decided to listen to people like Tom Clum Sr, etc. I purchased the Shot IQ course, added a clicker, etc. I have killed 5 out of 5 deer since then. I love archery and love it even more now that I can actually hit the target. I find it interesting that critics of this shot process will state that Howard Hill and the other old timers did not shoot this way, but that's simply untrue. Study Howard Hill's shooting and you will see that he does this process, only he does it quickly and seemingly effortlessly. We know that's not true because Hill shot many arrows every day in practice. Keep up the good work.
Tryed this before with the store bought and gave up on it. Just finished using your technique on my longbow and worked very nice. So, thanks so much and i subscribed. Your instruction was very easy to follow. Look forward to viewing your future videos. Trad for living well.
Installed one of these the other day and it works a treat and cost me nothing. Can now say my draw cycle is much more consistent my back muscles are engaged properly and groups have tightened as a result. Im relatively new to #tradlife but thanks to you and #thepush im really getting somewhere. Cheers legend
@@woodsmansfinest3814 I am using your idea to use a piece of measuring tape. I am building a clicker that will be attached to the limb with double sided tape.
Good video. I shoot primitive bows, but I've thought about getting a barebow next year. Like you, I get frustrated with the inconsistency shooting a primitive bow. Your homemade clicker is a great idea
Great job 👏 .. I'm definitely going to put one on my samick discovery 👍.. I diy about everything and really like this idea .. only thing is how long will it last ? Do measuring tapes crack and break after so many bends ?
As a Olympic recurve shooter I use a riser mounted clicker. However the limb mounted clicker has some interesting indoor training possibilities. Why not combine it with the Astra Trainer (which I use regularly to prevent collapsing) ? You can practice clicker shooting without an arrow!
How do you take down the bow with the clicker length and brace staying consistent? Or does the clicker length stay the same even if you dismantle the bow. Also is the clicker semi permanent on the bow string? Thanks!
I never take my bows apart or unstring them. Cord on bow string is of course not permanent. Everything is easy to remove. You have to retune clicker if taken apart a little bit
As a bit of a knot nerd, I'd like to suggest that you look into using a constrictor knot instead of all those overhand knots. A constrictor will hold well enough to use as a hose clamp. Since what you're doing works well as is, I know I'm being picky, so sorry for being a stickler.
Sorry mate... But I'm for sure a bigger knot nerd than you being a certified solo Canoeist having done lots of solo stuff in northern Ontario. That being said, I'd do a nail knot here usually. The constrictor knot as a more complex version of the clove hitch is an anchor I'd only recommend under tension. With the wrong binding material it comes loose. You have to ask yourself about the easiest knot that gets the job done not the most complex. This is a tutorial about clickers... Not about how to tie a nail knot with fine thread. Hope you get what I mean.
@@mwechtal I hear ya... Just that the constrictor is in this case no alternative as it.is an anchor that needs to stay under lateral tension. No application here.
How do you keep the cord from wrapping around bowstring? After every shot I have to untangle it. Tried moving it up/down and even using D loop material. No luck
Hi woodsman with string did you get from jack. Was is the Flemish or the spectra. I shoot a similar set up but don't know which string to use as I'm new to trad
Good idea to use a tape measure. I think you could do something else than velcro and tape for fastening though. The ones you can buy at aliexpress for $1.90 fastens with 3M strong double sided adhesive tape. I think that's a better solution because the click point will not shift as much as your design. They also look better since there's no tape wrapped around the limb.
@@woodsmansfinest3814 True that. Have you seen robin hood archerys DIY bow quiver? His method of fastening that would probably not work as well for a clicker but it was beautifully the way he fastened it. Just a better bow quiver than anything out there, weights in at 155g (!) and materials costs about $5. Great DIY thank you sir. I will be putting one of these on my Grandson's bow. I think it will help train his body and mind, he love archery.
When done right it allows to expand through the release instead of Collapsing. Cheers
I can buy a clicker for $5 or more or do this for free in 5 minutes. Great tutorial. Thank you!
@@AntHill-l9w back when I did this they actually cost a while lot more. Especially in Europe. Might be outdated but it was a fun idea at the time

Very well done, great DIY
Cheers, I'll be launching another series of trad videos soon. Should be fun!
"Modern Trad". I like it!!
Single string archery, accepting some modern takes on body mechanics etc.
Great job on a sound concept. Thanks, will be looking for that crappy tape measure to cannibalize.
Wow. What a good and informative video. Thanks.

Tighter noose around the string.

Flemish is a type of twist, spectra is a material. Depending on the weight of your bow but his 14 strand spectra strings are phenomenal.
