      They can revive the A340 if they make an A340neo and make it have only 2 engines instead of 4 engines, it'll be a twinjet version of the A340.

    • @ironcito1101
      @ironcito1101 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@munin2249 That would require an extensive redesign. They'd also need to add composites and things like that to make it competitive. They'd be better off with a clean sheet design, which is essentially what they did with the A350.

      I have a question since you flew on the model w Hairdryers and the 340-600. How does it feel to takeoff in the A340's? The biggest I have been on is the MD-11, tons of power on takeoff, puts u right back in your seat. I unfortunately never flew on the A340, gorgeous aircraft

      @@calvinnickel9995 I used to laugh when I saw those at JFK, DFW and ORD, I always wonder how those hairdryers got that in the air. They even made the plane look rediculous. I noticed watching them takeoff they used more runway than even a 747

    • @carlmaster9690
      @carlmaster9690 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont like the hair dryer engines on the -200 and -300 variants. Their sloppy looking and they over minimal power for the two variants. The -500 and -600 variants, their engines are what I call "proper engines" as they not only look good, but their far more efficient and provide a lot more power for their respective aircraft. They also allow the -500 and -600 to fly further too.

    Wasnt an Airbus fan until I flew on one, it was surprisingly quiet, even compared to 787 and A350.

    My first flight on an A340 was an overnight repositioning flight from Chicago to Munchen (Munuch). Yes, a few years ago. There were literally only 8 passengers and 2 flight attendants on board. It was a rare but wonderful flight. (Lufthansa) We slept most of the way. Each passenger took a row for themselves. (Fold up armrests and make a bed - center seat section.) It was a typical plane, nothing special. But that particular flight was special. My return on a FULL A340 was much less pleasant. I preferred the 747 to the A340.

    I've flown on a few of them, the last was with Iberia a few years ago. They were great and the last of the great quad jets. I had always heard the French side of Airbus wanted to develop twin-aisles while the Germans wanted to concentrate on single-aisles. I didn't know about the original 330 and 340 going to the other airplane.
    This is what makes Airbus strong, shared designs, and multi-national cooperation. I wish Boeing wouldn't have tried to do the same. They already had a great culture. It should have never been changed. Great video, as usual.

    A340, especially -600's, are so marginal in many ways. You need flaps 3 for takeoff and all the amber runway edge lights will be on your sides at the time the planes are rotated. Not to mention the inertia on turning to a final approach, the fuel consumption, and an edging vertical speed range on a steep glidepath like approaching in Zurich which might turn you down on a pilot's annual line check.
    She's really a rare wild horse and one beauty of a kind aircraft I've ever flown.

    I fly quite a bit for business and have also flown on a Boeing 777-200, comparably sized to an A-340-300. The ride was as nice and in some ways better. Though the trip was a short one (Chicago to Denver), the ride was smooth, the engine noise in the fuselage was minimal and I had plenty of room. Both were enjoyable flights.

    Last years trip from Brisbane to Germany and back involved lots of Airbus Planes and one Boing .:
    A320, Boing 777 , A380,A321,A321,A340 ,A350,A320.The A 350 was by far the most comfortable plane to travel on , but the A340/300 was also nice with is 2 2 2 configuration.

    Flew several time with A340 between Europe and Japan. Compared to the 777 takeoff-ummmpfff is not that great. Felt like it take forever to lift off. I heard several times that some ATC made jokes asking the A340 pilots to use all fours engines during takeoff. But beside that I like that plane and it served me well as passenger.

    The A340 is mostly a four engined A330, what is killing the A340 is the generalization of ETOPS certifications. Now you can do the longest flights with twin engines planes when three or four egines planes were needed before.
    As twin engine planes are more fuel efficient than four engines planes, all four engines planes are on the way out, not only the A340, but also 747 and A380.
    And the current air transport crisis because of the covid-19 doesn't help !
    But I am not totally convinced that this ETOPS certification generalization is a good idea for the best possible safety.

    I flew on a Virgin Atlantic A340-600 once from Los Angeles to Heathrow. The plane was really nice and the band who sang "who let the dogs out" and also Tom Jones were on my flight. I was too scared to get their autographs though. I was only about 10 at the time :)

    Have flown it on Air France a couple of times, SFO-CDG and CDG-DTW, very comfortable plane and spacious even in economy. AF's choice of engines was bizarre as the A340 was quite long but their engines were rather skinny compared to LH or VS choice of engines for the same plane.

    The ONLY A340 I've been on was back in 96 from LHR to JFK - Virgin had their -300's doing that route on a codeshare with Delta. I loved it because it had IFE ahead of its time - Mario Kart anybody?
    Mind you, I'd much prefer the spooling of the twin RR Trents on the 330.

    In the early 1990s, ETOPs restrictions were less limiting for trans atlantic, but still extremely limiting for trans pacific flights, hence the 340 had its market along with the 747 and the DC-10/MD11. Hence Asian airlines needed the 340 while US airlines that are focused on trans-atlantic didn't need it.
    After ETOPS was extended twin engines became possible on trans-pacific flights so the 340 lost favour.
