For laptop buyers, the last letter on the code also matters, U is for daily use like office app and very light games like old game house games, P is for more heavy use for work (multiple chrome tabs, office extensive use, etc.), light gaming, light video editing etc., meanwhile H is for heavy gaming or content creation activities (also for 3d stuff). This is what I know after researching about why my laptop is very slow on some usage weight 😂, definitely gonna keep this in mind when I'm looking for new laptops when mine stopped working well.

  • @mickymaus2969
    @mickymaus2969 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +54

You couldve also explained how the Names work:
First one or two digits are the generation,
Last 3 Digits are the exact Model (higher=better) where Numbers ~300 are an i3, ~500 are an i5, ~700 = i7 and ~900 = i9. If theres a k in the end, it means the processor can be overclocked, if theres an HQ or H it means its the mobile Version.
So 7700k is a 7th Generation i7 that can be overclocked.
For Ryzen it works pretty similar.

The reason for Intel having series is that each series has a set of performance standards that is capable of doing a specific task in a timeframe of 2-3 years.
For example, you can lightly run games on Core i5 for games released in that year. You couldn't possibly run a newer game in your old Core i5. However, you could run the same game perfectly even after many years (considering no updates in game)
Web browsing is suitable for Core i3. It tends to get slower each year, but surely you could browse even in the 1st Gen Core i3. Don't thing of running games here.

The i usually denotes power consumption. i3 chips sip power, i5 and i7 use moderate amounts, and i9 chips can inhale 200 watts while loading a webpage
So obviously a 7 year newer processor is better, but some of us care more about having a quiet, efficient system and less about jamming whatever makes the numbers go up on cinebench.
An i3 13100k not only outperforms an i9 7900x, but it does so with 1/4th the average power draw.
Something these tech channels always seem to forget is that electricity creates heat, and most people with gaming computers dont want a 1000w rgb space heater in their room in the middle of summer.

For whoever is wondering what i3, i5, i7, and i9 mean: They're manufactured with components so small they're about 9 nanometers. To put that into perspective, that is 1/11000th of a sheet of paper. So it's the percentage of the components that function properly, as to have a fully working processor, not all of them need to function. As in i3 is lowest percentage (60%) i5 is higher, and i9 is best.

The problem is that even for the same gen a core i7 made for an ultra portable might lose to an i3 made for a desktop, so the tdp has to be considered too. The only easy way to tell cpus apart quickly is to look for banchmarks.

I think the i3, i5, i7 in the past is used as a cpu class where:
    i3 for budget/entry level cpu
    i5 for middle class cpu
    i7 for high-end cpu
i9 for enthusiast build (idk how to called something that higher than "high-end" class)
While the next number is for the generation number and the last letter for specific function (like letter "K" for unlocked/overclockable cpu)

it would be a lot easier if they had some benchmark like antutu for these processors.

Series is kinda important when you take future upgrading into account. Everything sits around the series.

For gaming, the generation mostly matters, because of the IPC improvements. So you can mostly ignore the last three digits of the number. Also you want to make sure you have a K or X at the end of it for the highest clocks and free multiplier if you still need that in 2023 when every chip is binned and pushed to the max.

It makes sense if you compare CPUs in the same generation.

SIngle core rating is important for gaming. The number of cores are important for servers/editing/producing & etc. So, if u work on your PC, buy CPU with a lot of cores. The generation is important as he said!

The most important information is, if it fits and is compatible.

This is relevant mostly to gaming, in other applications auch as ML, rendering, video editing, or just having to play games while doing other stuff (such as streaming) the numbers of cores will matter..

As a person who works retail, you'll be amazed how many people doesn't grasp the concept of generation.
Bit of a failure on Intel marketing, by focusing on the "Core i#" to every cpu.

I want to say no shit but I know how people can be. Getting a ton of these vids since I'm building a new PC. Going from a i5 6600k to an i7 14700k, really big leap in processing power I'm excited.

There are more things than just speed. For example support for software, power consumption, aging, weight, size etc. but I 100% agree most people relate it with speed and you busted a very very very important myth.

No wonder the company has been struggling in the recent years with this shitshow. Not making it any easier for their customers is a bad strategy
