Cephalopods have shown through trials to not only be as intelligent as OP stated, but also to feel complex emotions. Seafood famously spoils very fast, even refrigerated because the bacteria that live in sea animals thrive in cold temps. For example, listeria is a dangerous pathogen that easily survives typical refrigeration storage. If you live in a place where beef can be safely and efficiently farmed, stored and delivered to a large population, you're lucky enough to not have to kill the cow yourself to eat a burger. If your primary source of food is the ocean then you're more limited on how you can get food. I dont see a difference between eating it alive, and killing a cow at a slaughterhouse or boiling a lobster before eating it. You're still killing the animal to eat it.
My dad told me that at a restaurant he was a chef at they had a lobster tank. When a costumer picked a lobster, they took it, went to the kitchen, dropped it in a tank and went to the freezer to grab a dead frozen lobster to cook. So a lobster could be picked over and over again. So the costumer get the experience to pick out a lobster and the chef is spared from killing it. I hope that is how most restaurants operate.

Octopi are very intelligent creatures and have SO MANY nerve endings. This video is so correct, eating them alive is inhumane and they feel the whole process. 😢 Look how cute lil fella is ❤
Their intelligence is vastly misunderstood by the majority. They should of been the dominant species, something prevented it and academics n scientific field still haven't got a conclusive answer to why they didn't. Each arm is its own brain. 9 brains. They have 9 f'ing brains. They can change colours and texture in a blink of an eye and they're said to be colour blind. They can see the colour using their arms and their brains do the rest n the body morphs to what the arms see and feel. If their beak can fit they can fit, they carry their shelters around, they walk, mimic other animals, punch fish in the face, ones they have relationships with, hunting partners. Polar bears get so much love and shown as cute n smiling but those things are monsters, the males are twice as big as a grizzly and they evolved to live solely on meat n everyone would go nuts if the Chinese were eating them but octopus are so intelligent it has actually scared researchers who have studied them. Pain is a simple reaction to stimulus, no more advanced in humans than any other animal with the capability to feel it. Cephalopods have shown through trials to not only be as intelligent as OP stated, but also to feel complex emotions. There is literally no way for an octopus to be feeling all of these things and not pain, especially since they respond in all of the characteristic ways that every animal that feels pain does when you hurt them.

I will never eat any kind of octopus after meeting one in person. That was the only creature I've seen that met my gaze eye to eye
Unlike with us and other mammals tho u never get a dumn octopus, u get an octopus who lacks experience and knowledge but never a dumb one. They're each as capable as the next which is unique as well.
Not sure I know what you mean. My cats meet my gaze all of the time and dogs do the same even more so 🤷♀️
