What makes this great reaction even better, is how you picked up on the passion at the end of the song. "We belong together.." isn't in the studio version. That was pure improv.
Great reaction. It's like when he sang "my bitter hands cradle broken glass" (5:30) did you really start understanding the song and listening to it for what it was. Now that you get it, should probably listen to it again. Might change your thoughts of how this song makes you feel.
First time to watch your reactions. Once you said it felt "happy" I was like, are we listening to the same song? This song is basic. It's the lyrics and emotion to express them that makes it exceptional. They portray someone who is demolished. I'm glad you got it in the end.
These days a lot of music is overproduced and just copies of former songs with the goal to make fast money. Back then music came from the heart, from the wish to express your feelings. And that's what the music was made of.
You know a band is good when someone describes their simplicity, but in reality, there is a lot of genius behind their music. I know that I sometimes forget how amazingly difficult it is for the average person to create a song like this--and especially to perform it this way. Their "simplicity" is better described as "perfected complexity." Nice reaction.
Grunge came along around '92 and Pearl Jam was an important part of that. What makes Grunge so notable was that it washed away a stagnant era of 80's Hair Bands, (don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great music from 80's Rock). But what makes Grunge remarkable was that conveying real emotion was important in the genre.
Eddie Vedder, bearing his soul. Heart-wrenching and hauntingly beautiful. I remember watching this live on MTV back in the day. I had so many VHS tapes of good stuff that happened on MTV. I used to watch this particular performance on MTV over and over and over. I love watching the younger generations experience the stuff we know and grew up with. I was 18 years old when this came out. GEN X 4eva! We had the best childhood. But we also had the worst. But all in all I would never want to have lived in a different generation.
Classic Rock is 60-70's. This falls into Grunge which was Late 80's to mid 90's. Pearl Jam is one of the Big 3 Seattle bands that defined the Grunge era. Black is such a brilliant performance by Eddie. The song is about "Unrequited love." I think everyone feels an emotional connection to the song because we all have a moment like this in our lifetime. Truly is a brilliant, emotional masterwork.
This sing hurts everytime! I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be star In someone else's sky , but why why cant it be mine!.... 😢
mtv, vh1, and cmt channels have all died! so, sad... :( I'm glad I got to see mtv, and vh1 channels when it was actually music! miss the MTV unplugged shows the most!
Just about the greatest song of all time. Music is subjective, just my opinion, Eddie is the greatest song writer. Lyrically oustanding. Vocally awesome. And just a super cool dude. Ive been a very big Pearl Jam fan since I was about 15. They were a little before my age group. I caught on right before Vitalogy came out. Eddie is the GOAT! Enjoyed your reaction video Kay and I will be subscribing. Welcome to the beautiful Pearl Jam music family. We love to talk about music all the time.
"Black" is a breakup song. I'm 48 years young, and i am getting younger from your reaction. Pearl Jam still rock on. They latest "Dark Matter" album strongly recommend.❤
Imagine being a teenager in high-school and this came out. Like seriously in a small town in Arkansas, drinking beer with your friends. Many memories. Glad you found this. Now try scorpions-winds of change 😊
If you like this style I was singing and emotive music I highly recommend the band Blue October. The live performance of their song The Feel Again (Stay) is definitely worth checking out.
Can you please check out the band Asking Alexandria with a few of their oldest songs……Pick one of their oldest songs. They are older ones and heavy too. Please!!!! Asking Alexandria “A Prophecy” “Closure” “To the Stage” “Breathless”
its 90's but it's easy to explain why the bands sounded much better. Today music is a corporate business and you can only get in if you sell your soul , doesn't matter how talented you are. They control everything, the radio, youtube, Spotify, even some media.. So bands are screwed from the beginning. You can't express yourself the way you want to. Back then you used to have one hit bands and some of their songs are still relevant. Today music revolves around people that write, compose and design music for the singers. The singers don't have any emotional investing in those songs. Or else you have to go "indie" with massive paycheck cuts. I wished that only applied to music but its the entire society. Actually i'm going to watch Pearl Jam live in June (theyre coming to my country :P) but they can only do that because theyre established.
One of the most incredible, emotional live performances ever. If you want to see one of the greatest live songs of all time, check out Dire Straits, “Sultans of Swing” from the Alchemy Live concert. It will completely blow your mind.
Loved your reaction to it. I hope you dive a little bit into the grunge genre, there are some of the best singers in music history, many of them with tragic stories but in a way it helps understand where they got their inspiration from. Singers like Eddie Vedder, from Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Temple of the dog and Audioslave plus solo hits), Kurt Cobain, Laney Staley (Alice in Chains), Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) some of which were close friends but incredibly talented. Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington and Laney Staley I'd strongly recommend you to dive into
I feel like this song was poetry and the meaning, mood and vibe just went right over her head. I guess that’s why music isn’t like this any more. If it can’t be understood, it can’t be appreciated.
70s or 80s?! I already feel old but damn! The is actually from the 90s during the grunge era. Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone were the grunge originators and gods during this time. It was an amazing decade for music. Just pure, raw music talent mixed with some pain and visceral emotion. But yeah, the 70s and 80s were amazing too! If you liked this (which it seems you did), then you should definitely check out Down in a Hole (MTV Live Unplugged) by Alice In Chains. I promise you will love it!
I am sorry for the wall of text, but I feel compelled to respond to the 'old music is better' sentiment. We look back on older music and say, “Wow! This is incredible. I hate that I didn't see them when they were becoming a thing.” How many of the current greats do we listen to? Were we there from day one? I doubt it. We only know of the songs that made it through the test of time to us. How much trash has been produced that was forgotten about the moment it was finished? What about the songs that were huge for but a brief moment and then gone? It's true that the barrier of entry to music is the lowest it's ever been, and that does come with a marked increase in quantity; this surplus of music is also not made with the same ratio of talent and/or skill as the older stuff, I will give you that. The majority of industry-backed music won't push boundaries, instead relying on being the least objectionable to the masses. However, I would argue in response that while we may have more low quality/effort music or boilerplate song structures, we also have more artist doing incredible things in music than at any prior point in history. One of the greatest changes in my opinion is the move to a genreless world. I don't know how far along we are, but fewer artist seem constrained to a single style than what I've seen in the past, and I think that this experimentation can only be good for the art form. I believe that we currently have the lowest lows of music, true, but I can look past that because I also think we currently have the highest highs. One final point of interest is that the world of streaming provides us with the opportunity to select the music we listen to. Given that humans are creatures of habit, most of us will choose to spend our time on familiar and enjoyable songs because they are known. An unknown song has the potential to be absolutely amazing or just utter garbage, and to many people, that gamble is not worth the price of a few minutes to try out. All of this is to say that great tunes never left, but you'll never find them unless you're looking for them.
Ok so maybe she got the wrong century -its actually 1890's -but she caught the real vibe of the song. Cant stand when reactions just rock out and go "cool ,great song" without any idea what was going on there.
"70s and 80s music..." I died a little bit
Lol, and "free & light" isn't how I'd describe Black
Yeah Damn bro....
I legit was taking a drink of water and almost did a spit take
I broke out in laughter. Adorable. Though, I suppose to her, the 90's may as well be the 70's. 😁
I loved it, 90s grunge was true grit rock and roll just like the 60s and 70s.
Eddie had more passion and emotion in that one song than 75% of artists today in their whole career.
This performance was from 1992. Pearl Jam released their first album in 1991 and they are releasing their 12th studio album this Friday, April 19th
😍 The band is as old as I am! Love it and looking forward to their new stuff
@@HitPlayWithKay You should do more Pearl Jam reactions, they have 33 yrs of music to explore
Definitely will do! 😁
Pearl jam are legends! you should listen to better man, and daughter too@@HitPlayWithKay
70's or 80's? Oh sweet summer child.
this is the 90's honey .... 🙃
Yeah I'm in my 30s and even so I died a little.
Layne Staley, Chris Cornell and Vedder! The 3 best voices of the 90’s!
I’d add Jeff Buckley to the top of that list
Jeff Tate, Queensryche, that'll round out the top 5..
And kurt when hes not screaming
Ahem...Maynard. Don't forget Maynard.
... and Scott Weiland, Mark Lanegan... An unmatched generation of singers... and we had them all together...
It hurt my soul when you said 70's. Ill recover but its gonna be a minute.
Like a knife right to the soul.
I literally laughed at "the bands of the 70's and 80's"... Wikipedia can be your friend sometimes! 😆
What makes this great reaction even better, is how you picked up on the passion at the end of the song.
"We belong together.." isn't in the studio version. That was pure improv.
Glad to see the music of my generation is still reaching hearts. Great reaction. Cheers!
I wish I could go back in time. I envy those who hear Pearl Jam for the first time today.
One of the best bands ever !!!!!!!
LIght and uplifting? Wow. Thanks for the honest reaction.
This was actually our mtv back in the day.
"it makes me happy even though it's a sad song"... Couldn't have said it better myself 😊
Gets you right in the feels even now after all these years
Eddie takes you on a musical journey. It starts softly, she's gone, I miss her. And ends with "I CAN"T LIVE WITHOUT HER".
Great reaction. It's like when he sang "my bitter hands cradle broken glass" (5:30) did you really start understanding the song and listening to it for what it was. Now that you get it, should probably listen to it again. Might change your thoughts of how this song makes you feel.
Greatest song of all time.
First time to watch your reactions. Once you said it felt "happy" I was like, are we listening to the same song?
This song is basic. It's the lyrics and emotion to express them that makes it exceptional. They portray someone who is demolished.
I'm glad you got it in the end.
This was the 90s...1992 in fact. Pearl Jam are grunge which kicked off in 1991.
came here to say this. 70's 80's OMG!!!
These days a lot of music is overproduced and just copies of former songs with the goal to make fast money. Back then music came from the heart, from the wish to express your feelings. And that's what the music was made of.
This reaction made me die a little inside at times. Referring to Pearl Jam as “classic rock” and 70s and 90s 😂 ouch why do you have to hurt me
Pearl Jam is one of the GOAT’S of grunge!
Thank you for your reaction to my favorite band. This is why grunge was so great! Yes kids.... they used to play instruments to make music
You know a band is good when someone describes their simplicity, but in reality, there is a lot of genius behind their music. Shit, I'M crying for her back!!! 😂 Every time I watch this, literally makes me cry. Sooo good 🤘
Worthy of a smile when you finally get the sense of what the song is midway into it as you start getting the journey. ;)
Awesome react, congrats.
He put his heart out on a plate! You got it! One of the best live performances ever!
Eddie Vedder, bearing his soul. Heart-wrenching and hauntingly beautiful. I remember watching this live on MTV back in the day. I had so many VHS tapes of good stuff that happened on MTV. Those lyrics are so gorgeously sad. Brilliant
check out better man live next, its amazing as well

Glad to see ya Kay. Thanks for your reaction.
The "we belong together" part is improvisation. It's not is the official song released in the albun
The 60s 70s 80s and 90s were the very best music will ever be, you're welcome and enjoy
This sing hurts everytime! I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be star In someone else's sky , but why why cant it be mine!.... 😢

Ya definitely gotta pull up the lyrics to this. It’s so sad yet it can be extremely uplifting take my words for it!! Vedder forever
Amazing song, singer and band. It's definitely not light, warm and fuzzy.
This song ALWAYS gets to me 😢

Eddie performed that song like it was the first and last time he would ever get to.
Check out pearl jam - jeremy and if u do just note that it was written about a true story ... Super emotional

Welcome too Pearl Jam.😮😮😊 Try, Even Flow, Alive and Jeremy.
Oooo! I think it was Alive that I've heard of theirs!!! Will definitely check out the rest! 😁
I like your reaction ❤
heart wrenching!!!!!
If you stopped thinking about money and acting, you’d actually appreciate this performance. Get Right.
"The middle half"
😅
Tom and Ray would like a word.
Once upon a time, bands rose on their talent instead of pyrotechnics and laser light shows.
She speaks the truth no matter your generation
Technically, they fall into the Grunge category of the 90's
"And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures had all been washed in black
Tattooed everything"
My favorite grunge band
Porch, from the same set next please
This!!! Porch from this show is amazing
I don't subscribe to these channels because I care about their opinion necessarily. Rather, I enjoy seeing people react to music I love so much.
If you like this style I was singing and emotive music I highly recommend the band Blue October. The live performance of their song The Feel Again (Stay) is definitely worth checking out.

the difference between Eddie and 4chan tools is Eddie has talent
I know this has nothing to do with a reaction video, but my god u are beautiful!!!!!
One of the most incredible, emotional live performances ever. If you want to see one of the greatest live songs of all time, check out Dire Straits, “Sultans of Swing” from the Alchemy Live concert. It will completely blow your mind.
It's worth remembering that Eddie Vedder had the flu on the day they recorded this unplugged.
hahaha - his voice sounds "familiar" !
Really enjoyed your reaction. Have you done chris cornell "unplugged" where he does' Nothing Compares To You '?
70's. Go check out some buddy holley and the crickets and see how music was in the 1800's.

this genre is called Grunge
I feel like this song was poetry and the meaning, mood and vibe just went right over her head. I guess that’s why music isn’t like this any more. If it can’t be understood, it can’t be appreciated.
Eddie Veeder ! Amazing ❤❤❤
Grunge the 90’s. The last great generation. Listen to Off He Goes 96 Bridge School!
Baby, this is Grunge from the 1990's.
Alice in Chains- Nutshell unplugged! Chilling!!
i stood up to get smth and when she said 70s and 80s i turned like someone insulted my mom

I think you'll enjoy reacting to Corey Taylor singing "Snuff" live. It's really good, I'm sure you'll like it.
Awesome video. Can you please react to Alvin Lee/ the bluest blues.
You mean the 90s, you love the masculine voice of Eddie.
The difference is, music was passion, was an art. 98% of the garbage we hear now is all about business and money.
we made music with our hands and mouths. it sounds better because its real. real music...spewing out of his heart and face.
I am sorry for the wall of text, but I feel compelled to respond to the 'old music is better' sentiment.

Eddie is the last one. 70s and 80s nah it is the 90s. This was live when Mtv played music
Ok so maybe she got the wrong century -its actually 1890's -but she caught the real vibe of the song. Cant stand when reactions just rock out and go "cool ,great song" without any idea what was going on there.
Going to have to introduce you to the 90s grunge era… Lol… Learn about Layne Staley then react to Alice In Chain’s NUTSHELL
