- Both the Leica Summilux f1.4 and Noctilux f0.95 (M-mount) lenses are wonderful, high quality and high price. So what are the differences? Can you justify the expense and what expectations should you have if you decide to buy one, the other or both.....? Hopefully, this video helps.

Your videos really are a great resource when considering buying. Heresy I know, but it would be interesting to add the Voigtlander f1 50mm into the mix!
Great suggestion!
Thanks for this. Fun to know as I just got a Summilux 50mm 1.4 yesterday and I’ve not yet shot it yet.
👍
A very interesting test. Although, if I wanted sharpness at 50mm, it would be better to buy a Zeiss or a Summicron. All the charm of the Noctilux is at 0.95-1.2 That's why it costs 2+ times more. This is a picture that anyone can identify even on the Internet. Of course, its weight (and price) are its disadvantages, but I try to shoot at 0.95 even on the street. And the only thing I miss on the street at night with 0.95 on m11 - is autofocus))
Great comments. I also prefer to shoot wide open
I had the Nocti for some time, sold it and kept the lux as I prefer it.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with the Noctilux. The Lux is definitely outstanding quality.
I love and own both. I was wondering if you think the Lux 50 black chrome is optically different? Some ppl on the web claim that ‘special editions’ have better (hand picked) optics.
Thanks watching, comments and re your question, I think there would be no difference between the special editions of the current Lux 50’s. My understanding is the Leica glass is machine finished to the highest and the same standards across all editions.
Noctilux is a portrait lens. I was hoping you will be shooting people. Thanks anyway
Agreed, bit of a problem right now in Covid isolation. I have used the lens with family, however, those photos won’t be published. Great results. More in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Interesting video, thank you. Which lens, for you, has more character ?
Thanks for watching. Which has more characters? When shooting wide open at f0.95 or f1.4 Well, if character means, more difficult to get accurate focus, lower contrast towards the edges, some vignetting and slower to use, then the Noctilux wins. The Summilux is more practical to use, being smaller. The Noctilux is something special I use in low light conditions. Love using both. Recommend both if budget allows. If limited budget, start with the Summilux f1.4.
@@Adventure8 Thank you very much ! I may have to go with both...
Quitea lot of chromatic aberration on the Noctilux in the centre at 1.4 compared to the Summilux
You are right. Extra post processing step when using the Noctilux
@@Adventure8 Noctilux showing its age a little bit here. Would be great to compare it to the new Voigtlander Nokton 1.0
Good.
Thanks
