I played this one a lot in the 60's and 70's. A good game. I added a few custom rules to make scouting a little trickier when it came to correctly identifying enemy ships.
@@LegendaryTactics - No, just played in the usual fashion, with the screen. You could get different scouting results, depending on a die roll. Some were more accurate than others. The least accurate was simply "ships". The most accurate was exact info about how many ships and which types. Then there were different degrees of accuracy as to numbers and types of ships. The less accurate numbers could be halved or doubled from the actual...and so on.
great channel! long time gamer here looking for opponents with Avalon Hill games and o9thers like SPI, SnT etc...i have tabletop now and having played an opponent since I moved away from my gaming buddies..about 30 years..if anyone wants a friendly game let me know.. I have been trying to host a game of AH Stalingrad without luck so fa..watching LT play brought back a flood of memories when I was much younger and played a best friend regularly the entire AH line..i play for fun not ego which I think ruined the only other online game I played which featured SPI games..the time is 0600 June 22, 1941!
@@LegendaryTactics tks...i reconnected with an old friend and we just played Afrika Korps and a stirring Allied Victory! we had great time chatting...we go back to 1972! tks again!
I've played this game too many times to count, I know the game pretty well, and I have to say this is an excellent video. The only small thing which either you forgot to mention or I didn't hear, was that a player has to reveal on what zone aircraft returning from a strike are landing on. This is why it can be a good idea to return to Midway. In all the games I've played, I don't recall ever having to fight a surface action. Very strange... 🤔
Very good. Thanks for the feedback. We want to come back to this game. We're having fun with a lot of other Avalon Hill games atm like War at Sea and Waterloo.
Hello - I started playing AH games back in the early 1970s. I just purchased a copy of AH Midway (1964), but it lacks a rule book. Is there any chance that you could provide me with a PDF or pics of the rule book?
@@ALthePAL01 Are you a member of BoardGame Geek? There are a couple of files showing the scanned rule book available for free on it. Otherwise get back to me and I'll sort it out for you.
Where can I find this computer version used in the video? All my searches only show the old static board game or AH's simplistic 1984 DOS computer game.

I played this game back in the mid-70’s. The search feature reminded me of the old Milton Bradley “Battleship” game. It was somewhat juvenile and relied on your opponent’s honesty. I never really like it.
Yes, it depended on your opponent's honesty - but then again, don't most games? I think these games also have to be viewed with some context - they were very unique and innovative for their time.
Hope this video helps you learn how to play!
My first ever wargame. Had no idea these things existed until I stumbled in this in a book dtore at age 12. 50+ years later, still playing!

That's a neat idea! Did you ever try a refereed game?

Ha ha, nice! Have you tried posting on Boardgamegeek.com? You can connect with opponents there for most games!

@@Warriorking.1963 Thanks! Also I found the rule book at the bottom of the box after I downloaded the PDF, so I’m doubly covered!
I owned and played that game back when i was a teen.
And it is still fun!!
First adult boardgame I ever picked up in 1969.
Wow, great! Hopefully it was the first of many!
@@LegendaryTactics oh my yes, over 180 games
Great game the General magazine had an add on to this game thank you
That's awesome! Can you post a link here? I'd love to check that out.

No problem. I'll post it on our Discord in the Avalon Hill # tonight.

Any idea where I can get ahold of a copy of the rule book?
Just bought the Smithsonian Edition boardgame today
Excellent! Where did you track that one down?
Where am I able to get the game online so I am able to play solo?
Tabletop Simulator and Vassal both have modules. Tabletop simulator looks better but has a cost attached. Vassal is free but a clunkier interface.
Can I play this game online?
If you have Tabletop Simulator on Steam, you can get the workshop for free. It's a really nice looking version of the game.
@@LegendaryTactics i cant find the game in tabletop simulator?
@@jonathan3213 If you go to the workshop tab, you can access it from there.
You can also find it as a module on vassalengine.org
Can I play against other players online?
