Hurt, because salaries can’t keep up with the prices/taxes that WILL increase. Help, improves quality of life, business opportunities for residents and other things of the sort.

Gentrification might not be our fault, but Let’s be real, most black neighborhoods are run down & not kept up to standards, we trash our neighborhoods, &bad behavior is tolerated. Who want’s to be around that? This makes most people want to leave for cleaner & safer places & when most people get the opportunity, they leave. It’s sad, but true!!

Some of these rundown neighborhoods still had older residents who had been displaced and had no interest in leaving.

It's not just happening in black neighborhoods , it is happening in low income neighborhoods. There are people of all colour and ethnicities and religions in low income neighborhoods.
I have noticed that the suburbs in NY have raised their rental prices so high to prevent anyone from the city from moving in.
Sad thing is the properties in alot of the suburbs that are rental are not even in that great of condition.
I have found a better apartment in the city (low income neighborhood) than I have in the suburbs ,and the rent is half the cost

Yes gentrification may present opportunities to communities, but often times the core residents of that community are overlooked or under equipped to take advantage of this.

It helps in terms of more tax revenue coming in meaning, better public transit, more security/ police patrol, more taxes to help with social programs in the city, better businesses with better salaries, and better schools but, it’s also a bad thing because it further pushes out black low -income people from the city center, which in turn makes it harder for them to get to work, raises the property taxes in the area, and less ability to obtain help from social services

Robert, when referring to black people being able to purchase property said you don't need capital and in the very next sentence said you need capital. Make it make sense please. Difficult to follow when you make one statement and then another statement that contradicts the first statement. You need access to capital to purchase property and African Americans have historically been barred from accessing capital in a wide variety of ways, many institutionalized, so Robert, I need you to clarify your statement so that I can follow.

It can hurt and help. It can hurt if the people in the neighborhood aren’t able to change with the neighborhood. It helps by providing options of food, healthcare, etc.

In a sence saying gentrification in a black neighborhood is bad is like saying that black and brown people can't succeed financially. Which is B.S, because most of the high paid and high income families are black and brown. We need more black and brown property owners is what we need. Like Kyara Gray said

These willfully ignorant folks need to just be quiet, and finish biding their time, because it is dwindling. People can't understand, or explain things they know nothing about!!

  • @LifewithLovelyLena

Gentrification is inequitable redevelopment . Redevelopment of a neighborhood should never displace the residents that supported the taxes and services of the city for decades. There needs to be jobs that help stabilize the economy of the new developments. It's a bad thing for those who are price out their communities. More Home Funds and CBG Grant's should be given to those already there. They should not be pushed out. Robert, is clueless about how race blocks capital for black entrepreneurs! He doesn't know what he speaks regarding capital and the black community. Before gentrification happens the black home sold is valued less than when the town is gentrified and most never see the true value of their homes.

I am currently getting those mailings from people trying to buy my rental property for cash. It's the only rental I have and I never want to sell it because it's appreciating rapidly but I am getting two mailings a month and now they're calling my husband's phone asking for me. Uggggh. I have a very black sounding name; can't wait to pay off the mortgage to roll it into an LLC with a PO Box.
