I grew up during apartheid in South Africa, and while I was fortunate to be raised in a nonracial family, I’ve witnessed the deep and destructive impact of racism. It is far more evil and divisive than most New Zealanders may fully understand. A society built on racial division cannot thrive. This bill is neither racist nor divisive; rather, it’s a critical measure to ensure New Zealand doesn’t follow the path of racial segregation. In the 1980s, New Zealanders stood in solidarity with South Africa to oppose apartheid. Now, this bill is about protecting your own country from a similar injustice-a two-tiered system based on race. It is a stand for unity, equality, and the future of New Zealand.

Hey Mate, so let me help explain (my opinion).. Its because there are two version's, Crown's and Māori's. The bill here has been created without conversation with all parties who signed the first one.. So, to come to the table with something someone has made without conversation to all is creating the issues... Ti Tiriti, in both languages is a contract.. Crown has broken it many times, hence whyI believe Māori stand the way we do..
@maorifilm there are actually three version s the original maori and original english and the James freeman version, the original translations say the same thing, the James freeman version says something different, this version is the one being used by the waitangi tribunal, Seymours treaty principals bill is attempting to go back to the originals

We need unity and equality for all New Zealanders….some New Zealanders are not more equal than others. ALL New Zealanders are equal whatever fractions of ancestry/DNA they have.
In most cases, yes. The issue here is your view ignores history. Maori and Pakeha had an agreement and understanding and Maori hold a special place because they are the first inhabitants of Aotearoa, the first dominant force capable of negotiations, treaties, korero etc. The Maori were then and are now a minority on their own land and own country, and the treaty gives them rights and protections on what has always been theirs to give. Sudanese, British, Asian, etc do not have the same status as Maori. It would be like moving to England, dominating the indigenous people, and then telling them to suck it up because we are all equal. The treaty is needed to protect Maori lest they be swallowed by the tyranny of the majority. Seymour is supposee to be anti racist and anti woke but in this case he is using the same strategem to achieve his aims. It ignores nuance, it ignores history, it is a plain appeal to masses of people who come to New Zealand in the last few years under a very high immigration scheme who have little understanding of the history of New Zealand. The Treaty protects Maori culture as natives of NZ the bill provides the Crown work in partnership with Māori to determine those culture rights. Every one is equal before the law Or "ment to be" This is in the Treaty and NZ Bill of Rights so all NZders have these rights.
It was meant to protect the rights of Maori prior to 1840. If we were to include everyone we'd have to look at what rights pakeha were afforded in this land and in their own homeland prior to 1840 - unfortunately there is a reason why so many moved here for a better future for not only themselves but their descendants. That would be a system of equal rights, to afford people the same unfettered rights. Often times, pakeha often spoke down on Maori for being tribal and having chiefs (rangatira/ariki) was seen as lesser than a king or queen (without realising pakeha assigned the chief title, our Rangatira/ariki are our kings and queens) why now does everyone want the right to assert their cheiftainship (I would implore those who think they can come under this umbrella to prove that they're a direct descendant of chieftain stock, that would at least give them standing in my mind. I don't think the British king would accept some 16yo pakeha in nz as his equal let alone if he came from commoner blood, unfortunately this needs to be the golden standard. And if everyone is now entitled to indigenous rights in nz, I would say this is okay if yall could lock that same treatment in for us in your mother lands where you are indigenous to. Yk equal reciprocity. If you can't give what you expect from others, don't stand there waving your fist like a toddler watching another kid W a coller toy saying but I want that too.

@maorifilm there are actually three version s the original maori and original english and the James freeman version, the original translations say the same thing, the James freeman version says something different, this version is the one being used by the waitangi tribunal, Seymours treaty principals bill is attempting to go back to the originals
@maorifilm and so what is so divisive about going back to the original translations and scrapping the James freeman version?

I am ashamed of Te Pati Maori and Labour using such inflammatory language.
Me 2 not to intelligent
I'm not
I am ashamed of them full stop. Having always taken pride in our Maori fellow travellers through life I find myself dismayed at the ignorance, bad manners, divisive statements and greed as displayed in recent years. In 1840 Maori Leaders decided that talking was better by far than making war on each other. Not shouting at each other as Jackson is so fond of doing, or threatening each other, or lying to each other. But debating as civilised human beings. We, of European decent have rights too, those rights are also enshrined in the Treaty of Waitangi, and I have always considered that both Maori and European are equal partners in our country.
Let us not go any further down this road of dispute but come together and settle any differences, real or imagined, that we may have in a quiet, dignified, and civilised manner.
Question.who do the Maori party represent? whom are their backers .? what do they hope to achieve?
@@graeme-ek2lzOf course not as your ignorant!
Great work David, and ACT.......keep going, more support in NZ for your Bill than you think....well done.

The seeds have been sown and the tree of 'equal rights under the law' will indoubtedly grow and flourish.
They should flourish in their own country of origin.

Hates is the most powerful force of nature & it is priceless.
I see civil war or David seymour dead man walking
But Maori are NOT natives of NZ, they came here by canoe, as Scots, Irish, British, chinese etc came by ship

@@maorifilmIt wasn’t meant to be a debate. It was the first reading of a bill. Should have have been one without childish insults too.
We all came here on a boat one way or another.... so what is so wrong with equality???
We have equality, but Maori were guaranteed certain things under the treaty.
But that was a loooooooooooooong time ago
Because you got here last
@@yehbuddy1005why does that matter?
@lilxsweet within this context very much. You cant expect a bill to be respected when you guys were here last and so expect full force to be activated if you try.
im not a seymour fan but here he is talking equality and being called raciest, the nidicolous of this maori party is not one this maori agrees with
So they censored my first comment that said we should be talking about forming a real NZ constitution for all kiwi's instead of this crap.
TH-cam always does that
This is just the start of this bill being eventually passed. It will take some time, but when the majority on NZders get a grip of what it's all about, then understating the Bill will prevail. Seymour has started the ball rolling, and he should be commended for doing so, not an easy thing to do when the Treaty, such as it is, is open to much manipulation. Some(limited IQ) think this is white man tricky, which is garbage, and there will always be those that oppose, no one likes change, but the dipping of the fingers in the till needs to end, for the sake of future generations.
No it wont... Because away from the internet, many non Māori stand dont for this.. Then, we have to look at,who dosnt back the bill... Lawyers, Select committee, just to name a few... You would have to actually be a pm or in a high spot to counter balance.. Not just on the internet with an opinion
Nonsense
Why is that Maori guy yelling and screaming and waving his finger at people his forefathers signed an Agreement with ?
Because he is not happy about getting that Agreement clarified under the Law which would prevent him from making further demands and claims under it.

@@REWA-s6b Let's have a referendum on this bill. Let's see who has the majority. I think you lack the courage to take your ideology directly to the NZ citizens.
@@REWA-s6b Independent polling recently shos 60% of all New Zealanders support the clarification of the Treaty, which is what the Bill is all about. From memory, and it can be checked by going onto the Reid Research website, another 24% were undecided.
So that leaves 16% against, and that was even before it was introduced.
From discussions in social medias including in Australia where Kiwis over there are up in arms about the blatant display of racist war chanting haka performed in our Parliament Chamber, along with the disgusting Willie Jackson
threats, the entire mockery of the Maoris agreement to the Treaty is now being seen as they are.
The Maori Party is actually a combination of 3 previous Maori Political Party/Groups that have all been rolled into one, and in the July 2023 poll they only managed a measly 2.7 % when Act were on 12.1%
Time will tell how much extra support there is for the referendum on the clarification of the Treaty, but at the present combined 60% plus another 15% from the undecided, the referendum must be held.
And you can bet your life savings on the Act Party under the Hon Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour's Leadership will
get much, much more support now that Labour, the Greens, and their Maori Party
