Greetings you curious, you courageous Herle Burly-ites. The Honourable Tim Houston, 30th Premier of Nova Scotia is here!
Premier Houston was first elected to the House of Assembly, representing Pictou East, in 2013 after a successful career in business. He was elected leader of the PC Party of Nova Scotia in 2018 and in 2021, running a masterful campaign, took down a popular Liberal government … winning a very surprising majority.
Today, we’re going to dive a little deeper into his background and experiences in politics. What shaped his vision for Nova Scotia? And then, the big issues at hand:
    - Healthcare
    - Climate Change
    - Housing
    - And finally, the Portapique massacre and the RCMP

I love the Herle Burly for the super insightful conversations and insights into the political machinations behind what we see in the news. This one did not disappoint and I was struck by a statement Mr. Houston made. Paraphrased it said they did a tremendous amount of research (and he is an accountant) into how things worked, what was broken and how to fix it. In that context, his actions speak volumes and the progress is encouraging. I wish we had more like him and fewer of the Conservative members using TH-cam to make people think they know what they are talking about and blaming all ills on an easy target. Well done Mr. Herle. Again.

I wish you pressed Mr. Houston more on the adversarial relationship with the federal government. Houston, as the premier of my province seems very in tune with what Nova Scotia want. The federal government is fighting him every step of the way.

Maybe time for Air Quotes to add a 4th show? Already have Hotel Pacifico, is it time for Hotel Atlantic, covering the 4 Maritimes provinces?

One of your best interviews to date Mr. Burly. Wide ranging topics, gave him room to move and worked well with him. Very natural flow and extremely informative.
As I usually bash the feds and especially selfie boy at least once per comment, today, in honour of your great interview, and just in case Scott reads this and wants to cry again, I shall abstain from doing so.

Great interview! My only critique is that you didn't challenge him about his reversal on NDAs, but I respect that you likely only had so much time to study our lovely province 😊 and you did challenge him on other subjects - well done!

Why do we talk 'beds' as though long-term care means the elderly laying flat on their backs for who knows how long. What about long-term living that includes moving around for those who can...Who wants to lay in a bed until they lose all desire to live.

Interesting that the premier would complain about the carbon tax after having also made the comment about having to activate the disaster relief group more in the last few years than the previous decade. Why aren't people make the connection?

Because Nova Scotians made the decision to get off coal for power generation 20 years ago and we pay the price in our power rates. We don't need a carbon tax. Especially in a province of only 1.1 million people where 600,000 live in a capital city but the rest don't have reliable access to public transit outside of Halifax/Sydney. We aren't climate change deniers, we are practical.

The carbon tax doesn't add nearly as much cost to our overall tax burden as does dealing with the effects of climate change.
