  • This case study from Foodomics and Society, Module 3: Data-Driven Solutions for Human and Planetary Health, is set in rural Montana in the Northwest United States and features the 1000 Farms Initiative. The initiative demonstrates a collaborative and community-centered approach to generating scientific data that supports a transition towards regenerative agriculture. Through this novel approach to generating data, they are developing the evidence base for an agricultural system that connects the health of the soil and ecosystem to the quality and nutritional density of the foods produced. As you’ll hear from scientists on the front lines of this work, the data can only get us so far without valuing and honoring the knowledge and needs of the farmers through relationship-intensive scientific approaches. These collaborative and community-centered efforts offer an energizing vision for conducting science and designing data-driven solutions to benefit human and planetary health.
