I was thinking the same, especially when Mike said that after that for the rest of his career he earned less than 2 million, so extra income it always welcome. And if you divide 4.1 million over 17 years its around 240,000 per year. Give me that and I will have really nice life. And also Carter probably even get more for agreeing to spread this payment in years, hes propably getting extra intrest on that. But in other hand its not hard to believe that Miami use some creative accountant to pay agent for making this mistake because they didnt want Carter on the team and didnt see any ways to trade him. But defenitely they didnt have a trade for Shaq in mind

Absolutely it was a backroom deal between the Agent,Carter and the Heat to pay Carter off the books. And they probably sweeten the deal which is why Carter considers it a blessing to this day.

Carter’s situation is misleading - the contract is out of reach for his agent to afford so they have set up a long term deal which ensures Carter gets his money over say 15 years instead of the 1-2 years he would have.

I tend to agree with you even though I lack much knowledge of contractual law, but if the guy personally said it worked out for him in the end, then he was made whole. Plus, he made $750k as a free agent, so let's say the agent owed him $3.4 mill. If he pays him for 17 years at around 7% interest, that's like $213,000 a year. Of course this is a conservative hypothetical calculation.
