Episodes like today are so wonderful for several reasons. A family working together, the spousal banter (betting) is so honest as disagreements are natural, and even the “2-3 day old jeans” comment! Who else wears clothes more than once before washing? Especially jeans/pants? Me!

I'm thinking it's a geode. Not all have crystals but swirls of different colors. A piece polished up would look beautiful. My grandson opened up a round rock that has been in a bag of river rocks that I had used in a small rock garden. It was larger than a large potato, had been lying out there for years. When one day he came running in with it opened. He thought it was diamonds and blue sapphires. It was beautiful. The outside ring tho was a dark grey, but in that hollowed out center it was full of quartz crystals in clear and blue. He named it night sky, becsuse it looked like stars shining against the dark blue. They aren't rare, but I had never seen one unopened before. Seems like yesterday he opened it but it's been twenty years. Yeah,I blinked an it's 2025.

Even after the huge branch broke off, you found a way to keep it going when so many other people would have just thrown in the towel. So with the decision made...have you given any consideration as to what to do with the wood? So many artisans may love to get a hold of that gnarly wood. I think that you should cut the lower branches of the cypress tree all around or maybe to the side of the fence. What a bummer to lose the mulberry tree but it's also a blessing to find out before someone potentially gets hurt. Can you do the grass where the maple trees are a little skinnier so you don't take so much of the driveway out?
Kids had so much fun, what a treat to have all of you in today's video!
Laura, when you said that you might be able to plant some shade plants by the cypress, I immediately thought about the hellebores and I was so happy when you said it. We were on the same page 😉😅 Maybe it is silly but true 😅.
Have a blessed week 🙏🏻🤗❤️ hugs to you 4. Great job Paul, great observation!!!!🎉❤

Landscape design, grass line decisions and plans… seeing an archer and a Little Rock climber are all a day in the life at garden answer ! I love it !
Great decision to take the tree out. I know it was painful but it had to go. So far you have made so many decisions that have improved the land and property for yourself, the neighbors and the wildlife to include pollinators as well.
Well done ! It has been great watching you two work together while the kids play! I found your Chanel during covid, I have watched you daily ever since ~ it has been a highlight of my day! I have to see what you’re up to and I have learned so much along the way! Thanks for all you do to be a corner of life where politics and the world goes away ~ and gardening, landsacpe design and family have a place to shine!

Oh my, it's going to look so different. Paul, one less tree. In my area, every single child has to donate so many hours a month before they go up a year starting in grade school. Can you imagine if you had a teenager who was interested in forestry or plants learning from you as an apprentice? What a day. Thank you makes me smile.

Laura, you have a good reason to be afraid of the pruners! I love the idea of a tool that is easier on your hands. I am a hand therapist (work with patients after surgery and injuries) and this last summer I had 2 patients with injuries from that tool. I’ll spare the details but that tool is very unforgiving 🥴 even with Kevlar gloves. Love your videos, I watch everyday with my morning coffee ❤

I have 5 Leyland Cypress growing outside of our back fence that we trim up over the top of the fence. On the inside of the fence I've fashioned a shade garden that grows quite nicely. It's like a little secret garden and it mulch's naturally. If I could post some pictures I would.

It’s hard to lose such a large majestic tree but it may be a very wise decision. I had a large locust tree in front of my house that had the same hollow condition as your mulberry. I was so afraid it would fall on my house in a storm. When the arborist took it down we could see it was far worse than we initially thought. Be safe. ❤️
On the up side - you’ll have lots of firewood.

If it were me I would take all the limbs up 3 feet from the ground off the leland cypress. It would be beautiful and sculpted. It seems a bit to big for the area it is in.
Family videos are the best, the ones with your parents and sister and even the ones where you're cooking dinner. It is such a cozy change from being out in the elements.
I don't know if she is up for it but it would also be fun to see what Bethany has done with all the plants she has taken to her house. I realize she may want to keep her privacy though.

19:34 Thunderegg of eastern Oregon? Definitely a geode. Could be jasper, and even agate? Check out Owyhee canyonlands rockhounding.
My Dad loved cool stones and I have now have his collection. Benjamin is so sweet. We had a rock tumbler as kids. I think our Dad bought us one so he could play with it! 😂
Maybe Benjamin can polish it up and use it as a bookend.
Fun day! Sorry about the mulberry tree. 😢 Somehow, I think it’s useful life has expired and it’s telling you that it’s time to go.
Can’t wait to see your under plantings beneath the cypress!

This rock wasn’t a geode or a Thunderegg. I grew up there and am really familiar with the thundereggs found out in the Owyhee Mountains nearby. Others are found in the central part of the state. This rock didn’t look anything like it. Not agate, but could be more like a Jasper, although Jasper is usually more fine grained. I was expecting to see a fossil inside of this one.

That Mulberry has had a long life and even scored a couple of extra years because of your care, right? If it has rot and galls, it probably needs to leave the property after coming down. It’s sad when trees finish up, but the driveway is a silver lining and will be gorgeous as you drive up towards your home underneath an unbroken avenue of the maples.
Your stream is doing really well! Indeed, the whole place (brown Winter tones or not) looks full of promise! ✨👍✨

I am sorry about the Mulberry tree, but it has lasted a long time for a short lived tree, your safety is more important than a tree that has outlasted its prime. My friend lost her very old Mulberries, unfortunately it required her having to replant her very large shade garden to full sun garden, like you, she is an excellent gardner and the new yard was gorgeous!
