Jeezzzzzz....can't we all calm down and enjoy this lovely lady singing???? I don't understand how such a beautiful voice and lovely song can inspire such anger and hostility between viewers.
God ... how refreshing it would be to be able to sing without any blocks in your voice! just shooting your voice into the sky! ahhhh , i wish I was a great singer like this.
I listen to her because: I love the kinds of songs she does, especially the traditional scandinavian songs. I love the arrangements she sings, always with the best musicians, chorus, etc. Her vocal skills are extremely good, better than any except the very best professional opera singers. Her voice is the purest, sweetest, most beautiful sound I've ever heard, or ever expect to hear. I react to her songs emotionally, and sometimes spiritually, in a way unlike any other singer I've ever heard.

)PURE! Sweet and pure! Her soprano vocals sound "natural", not " forced" like so many others sound. I would be afraid to see & hear her in concert. I am so hopelessly in love with her now that my old heart might not survive the excitement of seeing and hearing her in person.
Sissel is one of a kind and Celine is one of a kind. They can't be compared!
Sissel! You will never know how much this song inspires and pulls one up out of the depths of depression and sadness ! It is so soothing and healing and divine……..just wonderful!

I am Norwegian, and believe me when I say we are PROUD to say Sissel is from our homecountry! She appairs to the most earthbound singer ever to walk earth, and all she wants to do, as she herself says in an interview, is to SING. Keep on singing, we love to hear it!!

I lived and worked in Glasgow for 15 months. For such a small country, you Scots have a variety of accents. It took a few months for me to pick up a Glaswegian ear. Beautiful country and good people. My workmates made me feel at home.

ftrask1: How sweet :) :) I'm from the same country as Sissel (Norway) and we have been blessed with her voice since she was 18 years old and discovered..when she was one of the interval acts in the Eurovision song contes finals in Norway (Bergen) in 1986. So its been about 23 years since her debute :)

Wow...I've never heard her before. Easily as good or better then anyone. Im impressed by the fact that in the higher notes, she doesnt go 'nasal', like many do. Great control and clarity.
No reason to argue about who is the best. Simple good music inspires me and this is good, very very very good. I will never forget the first time I heard her. I could not believe the beauty of her soul reflected in the music. marni. M

Thanks for the nice posting. I'm only sorry I only found her about a month ago. Obviously should have been long ago. My wife is Scandanavian and we have hopes of coming to Norway and maybe Denmark, someday. I would sure love to see Sissel in person.

I have been to two of Sissel's concerts and met her once at a CD signing at Barnes & Nobel. She is even more amazing live if that is possible. She is my favorite singer.
I only discovered her about 3 weeks ago and am in love with her! I have played You Raise Me Up about 80 times on Itunes and probably the same on TH-cam. Have notified all my relatives about this "wonder" as well. And own at least 2 discs of her.

I agree!!! why compare 2 amazing singers :S its crazy. they both are very different and both bring so much individually we NEED them both!!! personally I dont think Sissel would/could sing the theme song better then Celine.... who could!!! but, who could have done a better job of the voice within the instrumental scores.... probably no one they are both extraordinary :0)

You couldn't be more wrong about her!No other so called crossover or for that matter dedicated opera/classical singer has a voice as naturally beautiful,unforced,without affectation as hers and that's not just coming from me but the master conductor of the world famous Mormon tabernacle choir.Do yourself a favour and watch her xmas concert with the MTC and be mesmerized by the most beautiful singing you will ever hear!

My wife is Danish and Norwegian and apparently more Norwegian than Danish. She is learning about Sissel because of me. We live in Florida in the winter and Maine in the summer. In the US, of course. And she didn't know about our trip, so her comment was, is he going to put us up? I said I'm not sure it is even a "HE". My wife just told me her mothers name was Margrethe. And her grandfather immigrated from Sweden to the US as a 15 year old all by himself. By the way, I'm 79 and my wife is 66.

she has one of the greatest voices today.. Most of these song you hear on youtube are recorded live.. when you listen to Celon Dion live she is no where near as good.. You look at most of the so called singer today.. very few have the God given voice of her...

@Vocalallusive, I'm sorry that you seem to have misunderstood me. Sissel doesn't mean anything bad in any other asian language I know of. "HANDLER" where I come from means an artist's "MANAGER" or "promoter" who is "handling" her business affairs as an artist, getting her contracts, promoting her as a "talent", meaning, an artist (singer, actress, etc.). I hope that straightens out any misconceptions. As I've said, she's incomparable!! :)

James horner is the best composer ever!!! and Sissel did a fantastic job on his soundtrack but, there is a reason he also got Celine Dion in for the theme song.... I trust horners reasons for this he is a genius!!! and both singers were perfect for there job but I dont think either could have done the others job so dont compare them!!! just appreciate they are both a gift!

Celine sang the theme song :p Sissel's voice - through the whole movie ;) Here's the story: In 1993 Sissel visited composer James Horner's home in LA to hear the song "My Heart Will Go On", which he had written especially for her. However PolyGram Records would not pay $1,000,000 for the options to an uncertain soundtrack-album and insisted that the more popular Celine Dion performed the song. She become then the little-known but crucial vocal contribution to the blockbuster movie Titanic
