- Major flooding has been reported in the Toronto area and tens of thousands of people are without power after an intense storm passed through portions of southern Ontario Tuesday.
Flooding on the Don Valley Parkway in Toronto saw some vehicles submerged in the water, which prompted a closure of the southbound lanes of the highway from Bayview Avenue to the Gardiner Expressway.
Global News reporter Sean O’Shea helped a pair of stranded motorists out of their vehicle which got partially submerged on the Bayview Avenue.

Comes out expecting to be saved, instead gets interviewed 😂
This reporter deserves a raise lol
And the camera man!!
Jook news. Chinese women 😅 oh my gush😂
that reporter great job help people out give him raise
No, the reporter just wanted something in return. An interview on the spot. If he helped without an interview. Then, that's really HELP PEOPLE.
Lol! Reporter was like can you come out to the knee deep water and pouring rain for a quick interview
The reporter wasted no time with the interview 😂
No one second
Stay safe , Toronto .
it's raining Lady. Lucky your're safe, Thank you to Shea our news caster. big heart for you helping stranded citizen out of their car.
The husband has the umbrella and she is getting soaked!
Yes the husband doesn’t want to share his umbrella with the wife and she is too “ disoriented “ to pull the hood up on her raincoat 🤣🤣
@@vrod1a Well spotted!
They are lack of life experience.
Respect to the reporters rain or shine getting stories
Thank you for rescuing them.
Not the first time the DVP has flooded. So when is the city going to do something about this? Is someone going to have to drown before anyone takes action?
Happened in July 2013.
They are too busy sending our tax money to Israel.
You realize that Toronto is building 22 kilometres of tunnels with massive water reservoirs to ease flooding in the city right? Its a multi billion dollar project. So funny when ignorant people whine on the internet and won't do any research themselves.
EVEN DROWN, they won't or got no $$$ for a fix. Would any company willing to fix it for FREE. If so, I think the city won't mind.
Too bad, no taker on FIXING IT FOR FREE (just looked back on the Gardiner since late 90's to now).
The car ahead stopped and was backing out. Still they thought may be its safe😅
I sense a lot of people in the comments don't understand how flash floods work. Nobody intends to go into a flooded street...
Lol, that wasn't a flash flood.
@@samg8012 Then what was it genius?
@@Raptor1867 Sounds like they decided to drive through without realizing how deep it was... Careful driving through puddles!
@@ThaSchwifty Fair enough.
@@ThaSchwifty Toronto got a month of rain in 3 hours. For the first little bit it was on and off, then it started pouring heavily and didn't stop. I was lucky enough to be driving on the DVP as the rain started to get bad and the flooding was starting; but it was driveable at that point. Flooding happens very quickly, so within probably 10 minutes the rest would have been underwater. Factor in traffic and a lot of people can't stop safely which is why they get stuck.
Thank you God!
meeting friends for lunch, that lady didn't have to be on the road unless you have to go to work or medical emergency
Kkkkkkkkk
So does anybody else think the money towards renaming Dundas street might be better served trying to mitigate flooding issues like this?
Common sense is frowned upon by Toronto politicians.
No one wants the renaming but that argument is a weird one when you look at the total budget for the city.
@@TheScottbb1 You mean the billions in debt and the need to raise property taxes 10% budget while donating/funding things that they do not need to things?
Yah, I am pretty sure there are more important things to spend the money on....like flood prevention?
@@zerospace101 welcome to a modern city. Taxes have gone up with inflation. Compare property taxes with any large Western city.
And what makes you think flood prevention isn’t a priority? Look at the Fairbank Silverthorn Storm Trunk Sewer System project as an example. Money is being spent on these problems. But how do you enlarge a river? Maybe the DVP (now offloaded to the province) should be raised a few feet.
But as you rightfully say no one wants their taxes to go up. It’s Dundas square that’s getting a rename and not the entire Dundas st. It’s a drop in the bucket of city spending.
@@TheScottbb1 My point assuming it went over your head is that there are much more needed things needing done with the little money Toronto has than renaming things with their crusade against history.
Spend more money to speed flood prevention improvements or in more places as an example.
1:08 till camera is on she is calm and when camera is on she says oh my gosh 😮
Wow! Poor Toronto has lots of floods I hope things get ok there
Always that same area by the Don river that floods when it rains this hard
Story about how wonderful the writers of the story are.
I just cycled the Don River trail yesterday no issues , just light rain on Monday Morning
You have to look into this fact .. have any construction jobs been on going in these areas and have the concrete trucks washed out into the sewage drains
Wonder how the self-driving Tesla's work during these times LOL
They switch to boat mode
A woman was killed when her tesla fell into a body of water and locked her in. She could not get out, and drowned!
There are literally door handles that dont need electricity for them to work on every tesla. Im sure this lady maybe didnt know, and it's really sad to hear, but every tesla has this. @mcrow9599
only model s and X has handles. emergency door release isnt obvious.
@@RedShoes8488you won’t be able to open the majority, if not all, car doors when it’s in water due to the pressure. That is, of course, the car isn’t completely underwater
Half the city was without power for most of the day. Power grid is ancient. This shows it can’t handle anything more than a light rainfall..
Toronto is a joke.
Once you leave Toronto and see how much better every other similar sized city in the world is, you will never look at Toronto the same way again. Sad.
Shh, don't tell them that. They will move to other cities and screw those up too.
That's Chow sister
Chow & Chan, 2 different LAST NAME. Can not be sister 🤭
Too bad people has to commute during this weather! 😢
Lunch turned out to be a "wash" 🤣🤣🤣
olivia chows sister
Friends: oh my gosh
It's Olive Chow's sister. 😆
So 😢 sad
People are about to find out what a hydro locked engine is.
I remember when I lived in Arizona there were signs along certain roadways that said, "DO NOT ENTER WHEN RAINING" and occasionally you would see why. Those roads turned into RIVERS! Maybe Toronto needs to invest in warning signs like that!
There "Hi Shawn." Got me 😂
Chow can put up signs about the floods for awareness
Better yet she should have city council spend millions of tax payer dollars renaming the Don Valley Parkway so that it's more inclusive for everyone getting trapped by the flood!
Reporter: Step into my shoes, I do this for a living.
My basement apartment got flooded kipling and kingsview and the power is off.
Damn, you have a house in Toronto? Lucky!
@@Y_hassapartments are rented not owned like condos. It’s not like the majority of non home owners are walking the streets yet
Get ready for that tax on drainage.
Oh my gosh
City council will just change the street name to Sunnyways Dr. Fixed!!
Watch this with only audio, you would swear it was a adult video, the part when she opens the door.
@1:15
"Did you know how deep it was gunna be"?
You mean audio
@@BostonHorticulture thanks, it's been edited!
😂
How many people got into accidents, got stuck, and had a horrible day because they were forced into the office when their job could have easily been done at home? This is why we need to fight against forced RTO
"Oh my gosh oh my gosh"⁉️ try HOLY F! It was insane out there at noon today. Near Finch & Keele there was a dip in the road that looked like a huge pit full of water with a car floating around in the middle!
How are the work conditions looking for tomorrow in the downtown harbour front area?
maybe olivia dhow can name the storm something non sensical and woke.... then - we get to rename it something else again and again. it's so much fun.
All I know is that who ever is in charge of Toronto environmental disaster and emergency department has failed to do their duties . They should have done testing on Toronto roads to deter water to other directions . I have no idea who decides to build union station but they clearly to take in account for any environmental disasters.
Have you even checked on the children in Oakville, who were stranded on the lake? Boats broke lose, slammed into other boats, floing free on the lake, waiting for their owners!
only 2 days of rain meanwhile tropical countries have Rainy and Sunny season. where it rains 7-8 days straight .
😢this is rally bed I hope everyone is safe
Oh my gosh….
I thought SUV's are made for this???
Just another day in the Big Smoke!
1:07 dumbest question ever
Changing the names of streets and public squares, ie race hustling, is far more important a matter to spend time and effort on...not something as trivially unimportant as infrastructure and maintenance of it.
Ok but why did she take her shoes off
Because she doesn’t want them to be ruined?!
Is this mayor chow
Is that Mayor Chow in the car?
Oh my god / gosh x 1000000 times
Money cant buy you common sense.
"no but money should at least be able to buy buy me lunch, oh myyy goooosshhhh."
tons of people are forced to go to work in this weather. capitalism doesn’t stop for anyone
“No, we couldn’t tell. There was another car stopped ahead of us and he was backing out….” 🤨
Eletric car
Am I the only one thinking the road under the bridge is poorly designed. It's like a U trapping the water. And why not make it slant a little towards the river so it drains there in case of flash flood.
It's nothing but a water trap.
what is wrong with these people, commen sense would tell you to not go into a flooded street
I guess the weather "fear mongering" didn't work.
no power but the hazard lights work ...smh
Why would you even try to drive through there lol .
flash floods happen all of a sudden
Like she said she couldn’t tell, which I believe means they are idiots. She even said a car backed up and left but somehow made the link that it’s safe to cross lol wild
@@KanyeIsRight if you don't see the car in front actually enter the water (but instead turn away from it), how would you know if you can make it? Yes it's about 2-feet high which is too high and will cover your car's exhaust thus flooding & stalling it, but most SUV's will easily get through only 1-foot of water....can you tell the difference between 1-foot and 2-feet of water from 300m away?
Now if you want to say they SHOULD have erred on the side of caution like the car in front of them, sure I agree, some people will err on the side of caution, some people won't - it depends on their mindset at the time....but calling them idiots because they didn't think the water is high enough to disable their car is the kind of language used by people who spend too much time on the internet.
GPS told them it was the fastest route? 😁
When was the last time we had this kind of flooding in Toronto? I know a decade back or so, I was driving home from work, and entire Steeles and McCowan was flooded but my beautiful little Honda Civic Hatchback had no problems driving through, although I was super scared. I don't have that car anymore. It was a beautiful car. I miss it. This flood reminded me just how much I miss that car! 1996 Red Honda Civic Hatchback. They don't make cars like that anymore!!! 🥺😢
It reminded me of how we have lost precious lives in flash floods on the Atlantic Coast. It's really terrible.
I wonder if those people that bought Teslas regret it now
Oh My Gosh...LOL
Damn, usually Volvos or will make it through a small puddle…
Man it's dry as a bone right now, news stations staging these scenes 😂😂
Happening in different parts of the city my guy...
@@KardiFan2000 prove it
@@michaelbrandon1222 Ok, I'll just use logic...the Don Valley Parkway (and GO Transit's Richmond Hill line) is built along the Lower Don River, a floodplain. There, I proved it. If you need more evidence, just look up "GO train flood 2013".
@@michaelbrandon1222 Huh??? You ARE joking, right? I spent an hour cleaning up my basement last night after the first downpour and then another 1.5 hours this morning after the second, more serious downpour before rushing over to my neighbour's (they are away) to wetvac their basement for three hours. I couldn't keep up with the deluge. Not staged.
@@Marie-b4r3e if that's even true or you're not a bot that just means your home needs some sealing
That lady was delusional LOL
Where is Olivia Chow hiding at? She knows this area is prone to flooding but instead decides to waste hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars renaming streets. She needs to resign.
That was her ....talking to global news "oh my gosh! we never knew, oh my gosh"

End times folks !!
And here in bc we are complaining because it’s too hot 🥵 🤷🏾♂️
Oh don't you worry, we complain about that in Toronto also... You know, come to think of it, we complain about a lot of things....don't take my word for it though, just read through the comment section.
that's what happens when we pay way to much carbon taxes
No common sense, Toronto drivers. Lol
The evs are screwed 😂😂
Its called a rainstorm saps
Honest to my gods, Drama in a big city, Knee deep water, then there is Canada. Sorry just that we have a bigger Country.
Come on, pay attention when you are driving. Check weather warnings.
Weather network had a rainfall watch and when that switched to a rainfall warning, it was already too late.
Gyaaaaa
Take a shot every time she says “oh my gosh”
clueless..
It had to be the Asian driver that gets stuck.
Sorta miss the traditional hand cranked roll down windows. Firstly there’s a reason it’s the Don Valley, valley’s historically don’t handle great amounts of water well. Secondly, wall to wall concrete development and ancient sewer system that can’t handle this new infrastructure. Result we get a lot of rain and we become a Third World city.
Was that Olivia Chow in the car?
Wow, you're saying all chinese look the same?
Didnt see it coming, did you?
😂😂
You have seen nothing yet ,.. you will be yelling oh my God ,.louder and louder ,... but will he hesr you???
For south Indians this is a daily driver😂

More money than brains. Going out for lunch?
No sympathy for idiots that INSIST on driving their god damn cars in these conditions.
"oh I didn't know!" Give me a break!
The car in front backed out of the deep water, but they figured it was perfectly safe? Congratulations on becoming a meme.
Its staying cold because of the carbon tax its making it rain
Toronto votes for carbon taxes. You can see how it's already working.
