I'm not the poster, but you can share published elements with other users very easily. If your data-management system allows it, you can grab published parameters from other parts more robustly than a copy+paste special. Publications can also be used for maintaining a link across parts and products. For instance, if you have a common line you want to reference across several product files, a published element allows you to do this easily.

If you only create unique models that never (or very rarely) share any geometry I would assume publication is of no use to you?
