Good thinking - Baghyaraj approach would have worked better. But Hero approach is slightly different. Still Manirathnam's less dialogue and Ilayaraja's extraordinary music made that scene work still.
#KBhagyaraj sir, maybe your alternate thought is good. But you missed an important aspect/scene in #ThalapathiMovie, where #SuperStarRajinikanth promises his mom that no harm will be caused to #AravindSwamy. So #Mammooty's #Thalapathi cries in that scene as he is emotionally struggling to balance between his friend, who has done everything for him, and his newly found long lost family, whom he just met a day before with the actual relationship knowing the truth. So there comes the effective screenplay from #ManiRatnam
What happened is due to that scene the fight sequence in next scene became less interesting.
Here we r not doubting the screenplay skills of mr.manirathnam, but the presence of mind of a creator & the heart that dint accept the character graph of the Main Lead thats going down the plot.

For the thalapathy climax, bhakiyaraj view is totally wrong. Rajini has a gd friendship bonding with mammoty. He's even willing to die for friendship but the scene b4 climax, rajini made a promise to his mother that he will not hurt aravindsamy. 1st time seeing his mother & he can say no to his mother's request. That's y he tells mammoty that he can't kill aravindsamy. Nothing is above motherhood including Friendship. In the whole movie, rajini will be longing for his mother love so when he meets her he compiles with her. Nothing wrong with that. The best part, mammoty also value rajini friendship so he agreed to surrender. Beautiful bonding between rajini & mammoty. Maniratnam showed maximum justification to both characters perfectly 👌 👏

I also thought your way. But what Bhagyaraj said was, since the movie is about how the Dhalapathi lived with utmost gratitude to his friend and how he lived as a symbol of friendship, that scene has destroyed his character. Instead, the climax has made Mammootty's character more heroic.

Mommoty character become heroic in the end because Mommoty didn't force rajini to kill aravindsamy after knowing that he made a promise to his mother that he will not hurt his brother. He didn't abuse his friendship. That shows he values his friendship. Throughout the movie rajini showed his love & gratitude for Mommoty but in climax , Mommoty changed his mind because of the friendship & love he had for rajini. So deva & suriya respect each other greatly. Both characters were justified equally.
@@-Liyash- It would have been all ok to make Mammooty or Ambrish Puri to show better values than Rajini if the title of the movie was "Gangsters" or "Iruvar" or "Irandu killaadikal" lol. But, it was titled "Dhalapathi" and Dhalapathi himself was shown as an ordinary person who only valued friendship because he was an orphan but changed his colour once he found out that he had a brother and a mother who was still alive.
