    Well there you go for the third time this week BizMan you have found a rabbit hole that’s totally worth going down!!!!!! Styx is another fabulous band from my high school and college days that’s got great penmanship/vocals/guitar/etc….. everything you love in music!!!!! They are lighter than AC/DC but they rock your jockstrap off!!!! Just saying!!!! This tune is an A for sure!!!!! Try either “Blue Collar Man” or maybe “Renegade” from them next time!!!! The catalog is definitely worth it if like 70’s rock & roll!!!!! Cheers to you hombre!!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!!! 😎🍸🤘

    This was the shortened version, the full-length version you need to listen to, the full instrumentation is just freaking awesome! So since you watched this version, go listen to the full version, a much better listen. Cheers!!

    Styx another great band. Unfortunately like many reactors seem to do, you listened to this video version instead of the full album version, which as a very cool and trippy synth part in the middle of it. Styx has 2 singers both of which I like. The one on this song has a little bit of a theatrical voice, but it is very unique for a rock band.

    I'm glad you liked it, but you listened to a horrible version.
    Why do people still pull up this cut-down edited video to some of the studio audio???
    You MUST listen to either the album audio, or experience the 1996 Return To Paradise live video.
    Styx songs were written by 3 lead vocalists, and the best ones are with a lot of collaboration; so they have a wide variety of song styles.
    I'd suggest: "Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue", "Fooling Yourself", "Queen Of Spades", "Snowblind", "CASTLE WALLS", "Man In The Wilderness", "Young Man", "Lady", "Blue Collar Man", "Pieces Of Eight", and "Crystal Ball" for starters - so many more good ones.

    3 of the best songwriter/vocalists EVER in the same band. Dennis DeYoung wrote these beautiful ballads like this. Tommy Shaw wrote anthemic hook oriented rock. And James Young did the heavy, hard rock songs. Tommy and James play guitar, and all 3 play keys and sing.

    The lead singer was "let go" by the band after many hits - they wanted to rock out and he was a little too "theatrical" for them . Mr . Roboto was the final straw .

    • @fridaylong2812
      @fridaylong2812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He wanted them to start writing effing POP songs. He was more interested in the $$$$ than the quality of their music. I despise Dennis DeYoung. I don't know why anyone thinks his nasal, screechy voice is good.

    • @nealm6764
      @nealm6764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fridaylong2812 and then after being held back from doing the rock songs that he wanted so bad to do, Tommy went on to do the incredibly hard rocker "Count on you" on his solo album.
      LOL!
      Dennis did seem to be a controlling douche though, but Tommy's revisionist history about wanting to rock out is pretty funny. He wrote "She cares" and "sing for the day" afterall while in Styx.

    Styx has two great Lead Vocalists; Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw. Tommy Shaw is more of a Rocker and Dennis DeYoung is more of a Ballad type. I prefer the Tommy Shaw Styx tracks like “Man in the Wilderness”, “Crystal Ball” or “Renegade”. I’ve seen them several times over the years and I think Tommy Shaw is the better Vocalist and a great guitar player as well. Absolutely worth digging into Styx!

    • @danr4137

      I also tend to like Tommy or JY songs the most but don't sell Dennis short. He wasn't just about ballads. He has some great rockers as well. His best songs in my opinion are when they start off like ballads and then rocks, like Suite Madame Blue and Queen of Spades. But it was his ballads that became big hits and made them a lot of money.

    It doesn't necessarily mean 'not going for it'. He said "SOMEHOW....we missed out..." Look how many try but don't get rich. Myself, I think not getting rich is dodging a bullet. But I digress. I think "We lived happily forever" tells all. They were happy but not rich. Edited: I just noticed I had to resubscribe to you. I never UNsubbed. Weird.

    I've seen them three times. Twice with the original lineup. (Including John)

    They're still playing and are still killer good😎

    Styx was huge in the 1970's. The singer of this song, Dennis DeYoung was the main singer, with Tommy Shaw and James Young. DeYoung went too sappy, for me, later on. They have some great songs. Try Suite Madame Blue, Crystal Ball or Snowblind...Thats one from each. 😎

    New subscriber here, and I am a STYX historian and know it all. Up until the time Dennis DeYoung ( lead singer keyboardist) split from the group. This is something I wouldn't have admitted back in high school. I was also a headbanger. AC/DC Pink Floyd Def Leppard. The STYX is a different sort. They're a mix smashed together in one band you got your hard rockers like James Young guitar. You got pop rock, Tommy Shaw lead guitar. And you got to showmanship performance and the best ballad man in the business Dennis D young. The two brothers that would lay down any percussion for any song playing drums and bass. Sadly both of them passed away years back. Come sail away is the song that shouldn't be taken out of context. It was one of their best Billboard hits but it comes with the story that is in the album Grand illusions. This album shows the diversity in the group. I've been to a lot of concerts in my life I mean Big concerts monsters of Rock tour 3 years in a row seeing groups like mentioned before. And it all started with this group for me. I was only 12 yrs young, Boise Idaho visiting cousins. It took me to go see this group in 77 it was the Grand illusions tour. Talk about opening my mind my eyes to a real show. Not just the band up there playing. But putting on a beautiful performance. I was hooked. To rock and roll in all forms. They did it all in one show hard Rock power ballad etc. Notable albums to look into Paradise theater, gave us songs like too much time on my hands, pieces of eight, which came out to hits like, renegade. Up to Mr roboto which I really wouldn't recommend. Only because it forced the band's issues to come full circle and the breakup ensued. Legal battle for the rights to the band's name yada yada yada. They still perform to this day Tommy and James won the court battle got new members. And I've seen this side of styx three times in the past years. Tommy Shaw went on to have another group The damn Yankees. I must check out. Notable member include the mad man Ted Nugent, "cat scratch fever". Which produced the hit. High enough. The song You should really look into. Thanks for letting me bend your ear chat.
