    Wait a minute I got a question...maybe I'm missing something what if you make a whole bunch of purchases In the very 1st day of the month and then pay the whole balance on the very last day of the month. Wouldn't you still be charged interest since it's charged daily?

    • @TheProductions101
      @TheProductions101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless you pay your credit card after every charge?? Idk someone please explain this to me.

    • @WillPeterson
      @WillPeterson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It all depends on whether you are still in the interest-free grace period or not. I've got a really short video explaining it: th-cam.com/video/TYK5GA4uYwU/w-d-xo.html

    • @Aid-1-
      @Aid-1- ปีที่แล้ว +3

      why would interest be charged, if you pay of the whole balance at the end of the month???

    • @MichaelLevine-n6y
      @MichaelLevine-n6y ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Aid-1- It is my understanding there is no interest charged as long as on make the full payment before the payment due by date I pay my card off every month and have not paid interest in several years.

    • @bungus49
      @bungus49 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep, as long as you make your payments, no interest charge. When you're late however, uh oh, get that taken care of as soon as possible. @@Aid-1-

    Incredibly helpful video. Isn't it crazy that we aren't properly educated on these things in school? Why don't we just have a class called "Life"?! Instead we either have to figure them out ourselves, or being affected by them without our knowing or understanding. Thanks for putting together such a helpful video.

    • @SergGutta
      @SergGutta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      seriously bro

    • @williamrgrant
      @williamrgrant 7 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      If we all took this class then the banks wouldn't make any money off us. There is financial incentive for us to be slaves to the system. That's why! It's intentional!!!

    • @FuzzyElf
      @FuzzyElf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We will also need classes in automotive maintenance (to understand if not do it), groceries management, meal preparation, electricity bills, water bills, gas bills, checking and savings account management, child rearing, pet care, how to use appliances small and large, water safety, travel management, law (including how it's enforced), tax preparation, how to be a student past high school (college, trade, etc.), debt management, how to cross the street, and Don't Forget To Breathe.
      Children's schools cannot teach everything. What they can teach are basic skills to help us understand and learn. We should learn at least basic math skills, reading comprehension, effective writing / communication, logic, and the importance of USING these skills.
      One hopes that parents and guardians will see to the additional education children need.
      Having said all this, I'll propose that children's schools could at least consider assessing needs, and developing and offering some additional "Life" classes.

    • @brendanleighton
      @brendanleighton 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's sad but true, parents don't do a good enough job raising their kids that we need to rely on others to teach us life skills.

    • @user-yr3uj6go8i

      If schools started teaching more about this enormous trap, the banks would steal less money from us. The banks deeply hate critical-thinkers who make sagacious decisions with credit cards.

      Best advice is to find a nice simple card that gives you 2% cash back on everything! I believe the Citi Doublecash does this. Other good ones are like Chase Freedom and Discover IT which give 5% cash back on different spend categories each quarter. I would avoid cards with annual fees.

    Thanks so much for this video! Breaking down the interest with simple math is so helpful. The credit card industry is so insidious with their deceiving "rewards". Rewards will never out win interest accrued. Most people carry a balance monthly. It's all a psychological game that sadly has to be learned the hard way for so many people.

    You know I love the video and I do confess to being confused when I first heard of this with words like 'AVERAGE' 'DAILY' 'BALANCE' 'PERIODIC RATE' 'APR' 'INTEREST' 'RATE'. But sit down and breathe. It's really simple math people. Breakdown the words. Underline 'DAILY BALANCE'. Every starting day, what was your starting balance? Add all those up and then find the 'AVERAGE' [of that particular billing cycle]. Then divide your APR with all the days in that one particular year. Then multiply that number by the days in the particular billing cycle. I get it. I've been there. Seems too complicated but reality is that it's simple arithmetic. Finance has a way of making it all seem like a Chris Angel or David Copperfield Show. Or David Blane or who ever you like. Great video though. But I honestly think you made it a bit more complicated than it is.

    Wow I never knew that. I’ve always thought the full apr was charged every month lol. I guess that’s why I never carried a balance terrified of possible paying 26 percent interests month. But from my understanding of your explanation I was waaaayyyy off lol

    Keep in mind that most banks and credit cards call a year 360 days instead of 365 days and 30 days for a month instead of 31 days. So use the same formula in the video but divide by 360 instead of 365 and multiply by 30 instead of 31 days

    So as long as I pay off my whole balance by the end of the billing period, intrest or apr isn't a problem to me

    • @tempeleng
      @tempeleng 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      From the example where you immediately pay off you first card usage to lower the average balance for that month, if you have a $3100 balance and then wait till the end of the month to pay it off, wouldn't that mean the average for that month is $3000 compared to only $100 if you paid it off on the first day?
