Faust is a German experimental Krautrock band.
("faust" is German for "fist")
The Group was formed in 1971, original members was, Werner "Zappi" Diermaier, Hans Joachim Irmler, Arnulf Meifert, Jean-Hervé Péron, Rudolf Sosna and Gunter Wüsthoff.
Faust broke up in 1975 after Virgin had rejected their fifth album.
In 1990 Irmler, Diermaier and Péron reunited. Faust now exists in two completely different incarnations, both active and each reflecting different aspects of the original group.
Uwe Nettelbeck, Faust's creator and producer, died 17 January 2007.

I have somewhere a recording of something called the Faust Tapes - a sort of out-takes album from 1973 or thereabouts. The geezer who put me on to it said it was pretty ropey, but what a way to be ropey - a true set of moodswings mingling mellow yet soothing sharp in the old cranium via the lug holes. Brilliant disjointed stuff.

Kinda strange that anyone likes, Faust. Just remember to say good things when you go to Germany, and lotsa other places. Like eating a really hot pepper, it takes a little time, a few listens, eventually the lightbulb comes on. Aquired taste?

Yeah Virgin sold out big time in the mid 70's. It's a shame because they used to bea vanguard for European experimental rock. Then they booted Henry Cow from the label and things just went to shit after that.
