I worked at GE and before that at Zenon, one of the very first companies to introduce this technology. The company is now under Suez-Veolia. They use hollow fibre modules under the trade name ZeeWeed, as shown in this video. The big advantage is the footprint is much smaller than for final clarifiers, which these can substitute for, and the effluent quality is much better (< 10 mg/L TSS from 12.000 mg/L MLSS). The downside is that unlike clarifiers, they are very much maintenance intensive and require a lot of careful automation and constant monitoring. The filtration system itself is also quite expensive to buy and typically requires replacement after 5-10 years.
