Hey was starting work on my own railway on our SE private server, and just discovered the pillar thing myself so thought I would come watch a general tips video, very informative and I think the pillars really change how difficult it is to lay tracks.

Something you missed is to pay attention to the arrows when placing the tracks.
Those arrows indicate direction of train placements
And are also why a lot of the custom connections don't work because the arrows are pointing at each other.

the free place little track currently is 5 foundations long to connect to another track. a single long track is 5 foundations long and two foundations wide.
Building mine today. Took hours to get the metal. But here we go.
More structures to build with on pve is never a bad thing. Pvp settings would work but most pvp servers turn turrets on platforms off on saddle plats, ect. Because it’s broken and dumb. Imagine trains rolling by your base on scheduled intervals loaded with turrets.
100 Days video on a train would be dope. I hope they fine tune them.
8:15 is that a setting u can turn off on single-player/custom severs
Could also place certain Dino’s in turret mode too
You can put crop plots on a train platform and plant xplant turrets BUT... when the turrets are full grown and you drive away the plants stay suspended in the air and are no longer on the platform. The crop plots stay on the platform but not the plants.
The problem with trains on a PVP server is that the tracks will be easy to find. You find tracks you have 1 of 2 options. Destroy the tracks wasting all the resources used to make said tracks for your opponent. Secondly, the tracks will most likely lead back to a base which can then be focused. But IMO the destroyed tracks will be a huge waste of 200 metal, 400 wood, and 50 cementing paste per track you lay down.
I would love to see a video on how you set them up on a PVP server and devise a way to protect the tracks within and outside your territory.
only way i can ever see train on pvp is if mega tribe can somehow get the train to fit in a cave lol
Can you use the gfi code to spawn it without the dlc like you could spawn things on survival evolved? And if so what’s the gfi code?
Umm I do not think so... you can however get them gifted from a friend who makes them
Can you build a long track and put a loop on the end so you can turn the train around and drive back? Can you attach connectors to any track (have not been able to attach connectors to anything that isn't ON the ground)? Why didn't you simply try to build higher than 2 walls on the cart to see how high it can go? You can attach ceilings to the carts, can you place a turret on the ceilings?
No, trains only roll in one direction, and won't turn around/reconnect --->
You've probably already figured it out, but for some reason, you cannot do that.
How are people building them on pillars or building pillars below them? I need to raise mine but it won't snap to any pillars and when I build one track ontop of a pillar it actually does work and will place it BUT after that I can't snap any other tracks to that one. Says requires foundation support but when I try to place pillars below it, it then says it's obstructed lol I don't get how people are building them on pillars!
You habe to first build up the track by placing the track on the ground, than snapping the next piece so it points upwards. If u can no longer build in the air because there is no foundation u attach pillars to the tracks themselves and build them downwards until they hit solid ground. They basically work the same way as roofs in this regard
i tihnk it's fine that you can build SOME turrents on the train... you need to be able to protect it somehow

I just popped onto the cluster and the track we have has rocks in it. So 1 of 2 things most likely 1. Either they don't have the correct "flag" so resources respawn normally.. 2. The setting 0.25 for us maybe is not enough because the area of the effect that would stop resources is disproportionate to the size of the track and needs to be a higher number to offset. but that may affect the aesthetics of bases to a minor degree.
Those are the codes though for it.
I should note vanilla is 1.0 iirc and we wanted foliage close to the builds so ours is a lil lower.
but the plant x does not stay in the crop plot when the train move?

People are saying theres a chance for you to lose stuff on the train every time you move it?
Umm I am not sure on losing stuff, however messing with it, I was able to oddly get structures to stay in the air and unsnap from the build on a train car so I could see how items could also disappear too?
Can my friend Ride or pilot the train even if he doesnt own the tall tales?

yep! Tested this out yesterday to be sure, but yeah anyone even those in the tribe that dont own the Bobs tall tales, can drive the train, and they can even pick it up and place it back down, along with the tracks and carts

nobody on pvp is going to use trains lol and the rails cost to much one group pve tribes will use them tho

@@kotzer71 Only thing it'd actually be useful for is gathering metal, crystal etc. but at that point mega tribes will have tps everywhere so theyd still be useless 😂 imo they're more for pve builders

5 extra levels for your character is pure Pay to win in PVP

So, no one will use these on pvp, even on pve thery're useless besides cosmetic fun, you can't out farm anyone with flyer/farming dino and tek suit/tek teleporters...
For standard players they'll be fine. Not everyone can easily get to tech, especially when playing casually

@@IronHorsefan1869 once you're at wyvern stage that doesn't become a problem anymore? spending hundred of thousands of resources jut to be safe from low lvl creatures isn't that realistic without 100x servers.
for standard players on a 100x servers maybe, the cost of resources to train track your entire server is still not worth flying around on a argent and anky lol

How hard would it have been to say scorched earth is a paid dlc... this way if youre playing on scorched earth you dont have other people who paid to win running around with op mounts and extra levels

The oasisaur is by no means an op mount, and the amount of resources you need to build a train system is bonkers, by the time you can do this, you are already pretty op yourself
because they said the old dlcs would be free
The oasisaurs inventory also can't be locked so everyone on a server can take the resources you have in there
To me, this is the most useless thing they’ve ever done. It requires ridiculous land claim and it serves no other purpose than to be in a creative build or a relaxed RP server.
The should just make tracks and make people create trains this feels very pointless tho I really really don't get it

If you don’t like the dlc then don’t buy it… you still get a full remake of scorched earth FOR FREE… so you ain’t gotta buy it…
@@DiamondSquidy I like the DLC. It’s an important piece of revenue to help keep the game going. However, don’t add something that contradicts your build rules.
In my opinion, they need to separate the game. They should have a separate PVE, PVP, SOLO player DLC packs

The train cannot do a loopty loop to turn around. It can only go one direction. So your options are a straight line track, or one big oval track. You have to make sure all tracks are pointed the same direction. If you start building in one section with the tracks pointed one direction, then jump to another section with the tracks pointed the other direction, those two tracks cannot link up. They will not snap to each other. If, like me, you had hopes of a having a loop around your base, then a long line to your buddy's base, with a loop around it, you cannot do that. The train will not loop around something then travel back the other way down those same tracks. Of course Ark is not going to let a train work correctly. If you want the train to go back along the tracks the direction it came from, the train has to drive in reverse. As far as I know, the only way to make a train drive forward back the way it came, is to lay a second set of tracks parallel to the original.
