    I have this exact guitar & it is phenomenal!! High quality everything on this guitar. The only difference between this & a Gibson Les Paul Standard is the headstock & the price, that's it.

    I have this exact guitar. Same color....everything. Bought it brand new back in early 2012. Before I bought it, I compared it to a Gibson Les Paul standard which was over twice what I paid for my Epiphone. They were neck and neck on sound, component quality, fit and finish, and playability. No uneven frets and the neck is smooth as silk. So I opted for the Tribute plus and never looked back. I added a cream colored pick guard on mine. This guitar is HEAVY which I love. No weight relief here! Sustain is amazing, sounds fantastic and is absolutely beautiful. I love the thickness of the neck...it’s perfect for my hands. I have a 2009 white Gibson Explorer and again, both guitars are neck and neck. Great video!!

    Would have been nice to compare the fret work on both, most Epi’s I see have uneven frets and buzz when trying to lower the action...

      . So much easier to lower action on LP my Fender likes to fight

    I'm seriously considering getting one of these!

    Eric.......you may want to look into it because I think I've read that Epiphone binding and Gibson binding are two different things done different ways so I don't know if it's a fair comparison. I've seen binding done on high end guitars and it's a painstaking process. I've even heard some Epi's are just paint (I don't own an Epi so I don't know for sure) but it may be worth looking into.

    I have one of these and I'll put my tone up against anyone that wants to rock their 2000 dollar gibson. You're paying for a headstock people. And guess what? The cute blonde in the front row? Yea she doesn't give a crap who makes the guitar.

    Being that my Gibsons are Studios and Specials, my Epiphone definitely has the more finished look. The Gibsons play better though. They sounded a lot better too til I put a set of Duncan's in the Epiphone. I'm thinking the binding gap could be due to the nitrocellulose being a thinner finish. The poly on the Epiphone is probably a better gap filler. I do have a spot on my Epiphone where you can feel it is uneven. On the dip before the horn. I have one Gibson with a bound neck. No gap. I used to have one with a bound body. It was a 1982. I don't remember a gap where the binding met the body.

    Great to get a review of just the finish and the looks of it!
    I'm having trouble chosing between the Epiphone Tribute which I do think looks better than the Gibson Tribute, but the Gibson one is only like 250 dollars more so I don't know which one to get XD

    • @Wabin22
      @Wabin22 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh thanks man, those recordings are crap XD
      And I haven't been able to play for almost 2 years because of skin diseases on my hands so that's really sucky..
      Was afraid I'd never be able to play again, but I'm working my way back :)
      I play all genres from Mark Knopfler to Black Metal so it's not like I only play Metal or such.
      I do appreciate a thin neck because my fingers are short, but I've been playing on a strat for 9 years now and I love it even though that neck isn't very thin :)
      I just don't want to buy a beautiful Gibson and later it turns out the neck is too thick for me.
      Thanks :)

    It sure looks nice but the one I bought the push pull knob on the bridge control pulls off if you pull it and the bridge volume doesn’t rotate smoothly and only works in one position and the knob is loose.Anyone else had a problem with these controls?Very disappointing!

    Thank's for sharing. I've bought one. There some issues with this guitar. The neck's pickups is floating too much in its support. Some soldering are bad. The tuners are too high causing buzz. Otherwise this is a good guitar with great tones (after fixing all issues).

    • @jameshughes6049
      @jameshughes6049 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are issues you get in a Gibson also & lately Epiphone has been exceeding Gibson quality.

  • @blkjakk

    I'll still take the Gibson!!! Yeeeeeaaaaah!!

    • @jameshughes6049
      @jameshughes6049 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This guitar is basically a Gibson because they have Gibson'57 pickups & high end electronics used in Gibsons. I own it & it's incredible. Epiphone has stepped up big time & they are matching & exceeding Gibson.

  • @dalepal
    @dalepal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I would guess that the Gibson is still the better guitar but the finish on the $2k Gibson should far exceed what the $500 Epiphone would have. One would think you are paying for better quality and more attention to detail.

    • @jameshughes6049
      @jameshughes6049 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the Gibson really isn't better because this Epiphone has all Gibson '57 pickups & high end electronics used in Gibsons. They are basically the same guitar.

    That is a gorgous guitar, such a shame you didnt play it more !! I would if I had 1 & honestly i'd buy that over the gibson with the stuff you've shown between the 2.
    Also leads me to also say if you can get a good quality kit, you probly could do a better guitar then the gibson .. "Gibson .. our quality control is number 1 1 " LMAOL he he he :P :D

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TerryBear......with all due respect, you're talking out your "kazoo" LOL" with regards to making a kit guitar better than a Gibson! Are you even serious? I've watched you a bit and know you're a Gibson hater (even though you have a flying V) but you simply have no clue as to what you're talking about. Just saying you'd buy the Epi over the Gibson speaks volumes. I know your thing is they are overpriced and some may agree but to compare a $,2,000 + guitar to a $300 kit (even sinking another $500-$600 into it) is simply absurd. How many legendary albums were made with Gibson vs Epiphone, how many legendary TONES were created with Gibsons vs Epiphones. Sure QC may not be what it was but it's STILL 10x's the guitar any Epiphone could be even WITH the minor flaws Eric pointed out. Actually YOU take the Epi, that leaves more Gibson's for guys like me! Again, no disrespect but some of your comments regarding Gibson are simply rooted in the fact you believe they are overpriced. BTW......How many $2,500.00 Gibson's have you even played AND put through the paces in order to come to such conclusions? (I believe I know that answer which is my entire point) Me? I have played plenty, owned plenty and have been playing one since 1992 that I've played every day for the last 25 years. I also own a $2500.00 ES 339 from 2008 that I play ALL THE TIME. So, point being I speak from experience. Go buy one, just one, then play it for years then come back and tell me if you think an Epi even comes close, or even crazier , turning a KIT guitar into something BETTER than a Gibson. That's one of the most absurd statements I've read in a long time.

    • @Terry3Gs
      @Terry3Gs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      my statements are based on facts finalcially proven ... not my problem you cant comprehend where I have come from ... You have no clue what I have seen/played/tried out/tested probly then think cause i did a kit, own squier & no names stuff that I dont know shit about guitar's ... right ... And if you know me sooo well as you claim you'd know my bias is against the les paul line + the companies business practices. You want to pay $2000+ more for gibson on the headstock ... go for it .. im not wasting my money on over hyped $500 guitars.
      Thats ALL I have to say to YOU about it ... dont bother to respond to my comment.

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why so mad dude? I even said with all due respect! What is all this talk about me not "comprehending" what you say? Geez!!! I simply said you don't know what you're talking about regarding Gibson's because you don't have the experience PLAYING Gibson's. I've watched your channel enough to know what you play and have played. Never said I know you "so well". I'd respect your opinion regarding Gibson more if you had actual experience but you do not and it's not right that you bash a company repeatedly with no experience having played their instruments (and I'n not talking running over to GC and grabbing two off the wall then saying Gibson's suck) If I have no clue, then you must lie on your channel because I'm judging what I know by what YOU say. I know you have never purchased a high end Gibson......FACT. I know you just bought a used Gibson .....FACT! I Know that you don't have any experience playing a high end Gibson for any length of time.....FACT (or you lie). What I'm saying is you have no idea what you're talking about because you've never played the guitars.(I'm not talking about a 3 min noodle.........I'm talking for some time, trough a number of amps etc) I don't think you have a guitar that cost more than maybe $700.......Fact (or you lie). IT's all coming form your channel. So how can you make a statement like "you can even make a kit guitar better than a Gibson" with such little experience with Gibson? BTW, I'm just talking, no reason to get all upset and offended, I said no disrespect meant........good Lord.....people are so quick to take offense nowadays. Like I said in a chat........you disagree with someone, then it's a fight, nobody can maturely argue a position anymore like an adult.

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just for the record.......Gibson doesn't seem to have any issues finding buyers for their overpriced guitars. Last time I remember Andertons was going to do a video on LP's Lee said they had all sold out all the stock already.

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eric......I get what he's saying too BUT.......... he also said you can make a kit guitar better than a Gibson (since that is what we were talking about here, I assume he means a $2,000 LP) and I said that was absurd (and stand by it) And NO, I don't think you could make a kit guitar better than a lower end $1200.00 Gibson either......Besides, It was just a comment, I didn't know he'd get all bent out of shape and say things like "if you can't comprehend" or "since you know me so well".......everything I said came from HIS videos. Crazy I would be much more willing to take into consideration what he's saying if I saw he had owned 2 or 3 $1,200.00+ Gibson guitars for a length of time and then could speak from having real world EXPERIENCE of having owned and played them for some time. (Because that is where MY experience comes from) Again, trying a guitar for 10 minutes in a music stores is no way to make a conclusive decision about a entire brand. If he doesn't agree with their business practices fine, I get that and respect it but if you haven't owned any higher end Gibsons, then your experience is very very limited at best. He flat out said he'd take the Epi over the Gibson....I said that was NUTS! Now if you're only WILLING to spend a certain amount or have a budget, I get that too but it seems he's implying the Epi is BETTER, and that's what I argue. Even you yourself Eric has said there's a BIG difference between your Epi SG and Gibson SG.

    HELLO: Epiphone paints on it’s binding.

  • @brutus6328
    @brutus6328 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, I don't think that is real binding on the Epi so I'm sure that is why it's perfectly flush with the body. A Gibson has real binding that is put on it. Big difference!

    • @WickedFesterBand
      @WickedFesterBand 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Epiphone has an area on the dip before the horn where the binding is not flush. It is real binding. My understanding is that Gibson uses a thicker binding. I think a possible reason for the Gibson gap is the nitro cellulose finish vs the polyurethane on the Epiphine. The poly is a thicker finish. A reason why the tone wood people will claim the Gibson will sound better. I love my Epiphone, but I will say my Gibsons play better and I had to replace the pickups in the Epiphone to get it to sound as good as the Gibsons.

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, my understanding is it depends on the model I think some get painted binding and some get a one ply binding. It's still different than what Gibson uses on their guitars and that may be what we are seeing.

    • @WickedFesterBand
      @WickedFesterBand 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, probably is. My Epi is a 2010 I think. I'm thinking that poured in binding in Phillip Mcknight's video is the way low end guitars are probably going. That would explain why there is no ridge. It gets cut with the body.

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wicked Fester...Exactly and 100% correct!!! Just trying to show Eric that some of these things he's finding and calling "flaws" aren't actually flaws at all but have more to do with the way things are made and how they're made differently from Gibson to Epiphone.

    that tiny 'fish-eye' the size of a pin head is what he dwells on.... skips this old lady nitpicking, no matter what his 'background' is. It is clearly not in spelling.
